Solo: A Star Wars Story — Official Review and Opinions Thread — SPOILERS
Time

Wolfman said:

There was a scene in the Falcon where L3-37 has a bit of malfunction and hits herself on the side of the head to start up again. As her data is now in and part of the falcon, could this now be seen later in The Empire Strikes Back when Han hits the wall of the cockpit to re-start the Falcon up?
Just a thought.

If so, then that’s a quality catch 😃

SOLO: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas Thread
Time

krlozdac said:

This is the most uninteresting SW film by FAR. There was a good amount of unfunny/badly delivered lines that I felt if stripped could streamline the narrative and strenghten the characters.

The first act was very clunky. Things started happening to Han before the movie gave us a chance to care. Same with many other characters.

Han was too goofy at times. Lando felt completely off. I felt they made him somewhat unlikable and had way too much fun at his expense. Beckett was just Woody Harrelson and the twist with him at the end is the most predictable twist in the history of twists. The worst part about that is how the music played dramatically when he entered the room to reveal HE was the traitor. No shit!

As opposed to other Star Wars edits I don’t really see people cutting whole scenes out because the pace is so fast already. I think people will just end up cutting out lines and bad performance and we’ll just basically have polished versions of this movie. But beyond that, unless they release a lot of deleted scenes (which Ik they won’t) I’m not sure how this film can be aided by fan’s scissors.

Mate, this isn’t the ‘Solo review and opinion’ thread.

If you found the film uninteresting then say so - and maybe suggest some ideas for making it more interesting; highlighting and correcting those issues you have.

If you found some of the first act clunky, explain why - and maybe suggest or ask for a few thoughts on how to tighten it up.

And so on…

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

The last two and a half pages demonstrates how not to debate this topic.

Please heed Anchorhead’s post above.

The thread is now unlocked. Do not continue the aforementioned ‘debate’ - thank you.

We start afresh…

And also, a reminder about this thread in general:-

This is just a ranking thread - it means little at the end of the day; some films are liked more than others, for what could be considered the ‘strangest’ or personal of reasons - and we know from posting on here we each have our quirks, eccentricities and somewhat different views. And opinions, even previously staunch ones, may change over time…

Some people may only actually give a stuff about 5/6 films and just include others for the sake of being completionist. Some may not be able recall their own preferred ranking of the films the day after…

This all really isn’t worth getting worked up over - please stop with the circular and repetitive arguments that your opinion is right and someone else’s is wrong, or that someone should rank film X over film Y. It’s tiresome and come a point where members are reluctant to post in here for getting ridiculed or told they are ‘wrong’.

By all means ask why someone feels why film X is over film Y - yet do it with some respect and civility - we may even learn something…

Some people love their first ever car (which may be a piece of shite to many others), some have a special place for their first crush or love (NOT still being kept in a dungeon), or the first hi-fi they saved up for with pocket money or from their 1st wage etc. You don’t ridicule them for it - so please don’t have a pop at someone for liking The Holiday Special over Empire etc…

What song lyrics inspire you to look forward to seeing the sun every day life allows you to?
Time

Jock’s got a vote in Parochia
Ten long years and he’s still got her
Paying tax and and doing stir
Worry about it later.
And the wind blows hot and the wind blows cold
But it blows us good so we’ve been told
Music’s food 'til the art-biz folds
Let them all eat culture.

Chorus:
The past is steeped in shame,
But tomorrow’s fair game,
For a life that’s fit for living
Good morning Britain.

Twenty years and a loaded gun
Funerals, fear and the war ain’t won
Paddy’s just a figure of fun
It lightens up the danger.
And a corporal sneers at a catholic boy
And he eyes his gun like a rich man’s toy
He’s killing more than celtic joy
Death is not a stranger.

Taffy’s time’s gonna come one day
It’s a loud sweet voice and it won’t give way
A house is not a holiday
Your sons are leaving home Neil.
In the hills and the valleys and far away
You can hear the song of democracy
The echo of eternity
With a Rak-a-Rak-a feel.

Chorus

From the Tyne to where to the Thames does flow
My English brothers and sisters know
It’s not a case of where you go
It’s race and creed and colour.
From the police cell to the deep dark grave
On the underground’s just a stop away
Don’t be too black, don’t be too gay
Just get a little duller.

But in this green and pleasant land,
Where I make my home, I make my stand
Make it cool just to be a man,
A uniform’s a traitor.
Love is international
And if you stand or if you fall,
Just let them know you gave your all,
Worry about it later.

^ Aztec Camera (with Mick Jones) - Good Morning Britain

A song very much of the 80’s in the UK - though sadly some still applies to life here today, the fight goes on.

Hey, “Paint it Black” again in tonight’s episode! A slightly different version, too.

😃 Very nicely done, it was.

SPOILERS for S2xE05…

Shogun World looks fantastic, and well explained by Sizemore 😉 - yet how do they control the danger of bows and arrows swords and pikes etc for when the Park is running ‘normally’ for the Guests?

I’m not sure where to post this as I can’t seem to find any of the old “soundtrack” discussions, but I notice that the new RETURN OF THE JEDI CD release is the original 1983 version (YAY!!!) and I’m wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to compare the sound quality to the old Anthology set and the 2-disc sets?

https://smile.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B07CNBSQSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526887764&sr=8-1&keywords=RETURN+OF+THE+JEDI+CD

There are a few soundtrack and audio discussions listed in the Index for this section of the site - in the ‘Theatrical Cuts vs. Subsequent Releases’ Index, and in the ‘Star Wars Preservation’ Index too mate 👍

Nice one that it’s the original '83 version 😃

Some info & help for the Hal 9000 Edits of the Prequel & Sequel Trilogies (+ more)...
Time

Some info & help for the Hal 9000 Edits of both the Prequel Trilogy & Sequel Trilogy (and more)…

There are these three main Hal 9000 Prequel Edit threads, by Hal 9000 himself - where information is in abundance, the history and process of the project is contained, and many questions have been already answered - with more encouraged to be asked:-

Star Wars Episode I: Cloak Of Deception

Star Wars Episode II: The Approaching Storm

Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil

And for the Hal 9000 Sequel Edits - these three main threads by Hal 9000 himself - again… where where information is in abundance, the history and process of the project is contained, and many questions have been already answered - with more encouraged to be asked:-

The Force Awakens: A Gentle Restructure

The Last Jedi: Legendary

The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant

There is also this outdated discussion thread (more an Archive on an abandoned Saga Series Edit by Hal 9000) - full of info & ideas - which may be of interest:-

The “9000” Saga Edit

Obviously, the main rule of acquiring the Hal 9000’s Prequel & Sequel Editions is that you must own the official retail release of the Prequel Trilogy & Sequel Trilogy on blu ray - or the HD Digital Downloads thereof.

You can send a PM to Hal 9000 himself for information on acquiring his Edits - and they can also be found on the 1337x•to torrent site - as well as other public and private torrent sites.

Hal 9000 has also done some other quality Star Wars Fan Edits, here:-

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)

Return of the Jedi: A Gentle Pruning

1997 Special Edition Audio Mixes, GOUT-Synced project thread too.

Hal 9000 also did these non-Star Wars Fan Edits:-

Back to the Future as one film

Lord of the Rings BOOK CUT Revamped, Books I and II

Sharkey’s “Lord of the Rings” Purist Editions

There are also more of Hal9000’s Edits that can be found over at FanEdit•org - link

Of course, it’s up to you which format you’d like to have the Hal 9000’s Edits stored on - many people like them on blu ray discs - some in quality Box Sets and cases or covers with quality artwork, a few have them stored on USB flash drives, or their computer hard drive, some have them on standalone HD Players, or plex / kodi / media centre type set-ups…

The ‘Case Covers, Disc Labels, and Fan Art’ section of the OriginalTrilogy•com site has an array of cover and disc art for adywan’s Revisited Editions - well worth checking it out for ideas & inspiration, for printing info, and help too.

The ‘How-To’s and Technical Discussions’ section may also be of use/assistance if you’re having any technical issues - for seeing if others are having / have had the same or similar problem, or for posing a new question.

Good luck with it - and hope you enjoy watching them, and any of the other great projects on the site too.

Thirdly, the ‘How do I do this?’ on the OriginalTrilogy.com - some info & answers to members’ queries thread should also hopefully be of some help as to many of the functions of the site, along with other related info as well.

The Announcements Section - including Site Rules & Guidelines, Fan Edit & Preservation Rules & FAQ, as well info for Signatures, Linking Policy for Downloads, and Plot Spoiler Policy (and much more) that may be of use too.

If you are having any issues with the site, have a question, an idea to improve the site, or would like to give some feedback - then these can be done in the Feedback Forum and General Assistance sections.

There are also several Index Threads pinned at the top of many respective sections of the OT•com - which may help members find various topics of discussion, fan edits, preservations and other projects etc.

Also, the ‘George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist…’ thread attempts to highlight and catalog some of the revisionism, altering of history and contradictory claims by George Lucas / Lucasfilm as to the formation, planning and history of the Star Wars films and universe therein.

The Some useful OT.com threads re the non-release of the theatrical OT | How you can help… thread - highlighting just a few of the many discussion threads on this site focusing on our love and appreciation for the Original Trilogy - and ongoing attempts to achieve a modern, high quality, official release of the unaltered theatrical version of the classic Star Wars movies.

I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation Project I am interested in - but don’t know how to get / acquire / download it?

The OriginalTrilogy•com is a community where a ‘read first - post after’ mantra benefits everyone here - especially for the ‘Fan Project’ sections. We appreciate some may be excited to see the projects featured on this site - information on how to acquire them is readily available - yet patience is also required. If you bring impatience, entitlement, aggressive or vitriolic attitudes, personal attacks, or toxicity… then expect some choice words in return - and also expect your stay on here to be a short one.

Do NOT create a new thread asking ‘for a link to’… to Harmy’s Despecialized Editions, TN1’s 4K77/80/83, adywan’s Revisited Edits, the Hal9000 Edits, or any other project listed on this site. It is for you to take 5 minutes and go find the relevant project on here, for you to then read up on what the project is about, and then how to acquire it. Do not ask / expect others to do this simple task for you - we’ve had hundreds of such entitled requests over the years - and the patience of OT•com community members understandably wears thin. If thousands of people have managed to find, read up on, and then acquire these projects listed on here over the years… then you can too. A little patience - and a ‘read first - post after’ mantra - goes a long way on here…

These ‘signpost’ threads, featuring useful info and links to the five most sought-after fan projects, may be of interest…

Some info & help for adywan’s Revisited Editions of the Original Trilogy…
