not that big of a baseball fan, but like i said, i have gotten much mroe respect for that sport after seeing Dennis Quaid in The Rookie. i dont know why but it just stirred something. i dont even know who to root for. had a Astros cap once... anyone have a good idea who i should root for?

Astros are gonna be pretty decent this season since they beefed up their pitching roster with Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite. However, their batters are aging. Plus they are in the same division as the Cubs who many broadcasters are making their NL World Series pick. Astros could wind up being the Wild Card.

I think you'll see the Yankees start to crumble this year. They are focusing more on the individual players and not on team players and that won't be good. I think we'll see personality clashes on the level that you do with Kobe and Shaq on the Lakers. It'll just bring the whole team down.

Root for the Cubs and I'll join you in the Red Wings campaign.

The Phils have a chance. Until they play the Cubbies, that is.

I hate that ballparks, or any stadium for that matter, are named after corporate sponsors. Some of the old ones are fine that have been around forever and a day like Wrigley Field. Okay, let me qualify that statement a bit... I hate when pre-existing stadiums, et al, change their names to represent a corporate sponsor. When it's built with the intent of having a corporate name it's not as bad although it does cheapen it a bit. Comiskey Park in Chicago (White Sox) changing it's name to Cellular One Park or whatever the hell it's called now. Rosemont Horizon (great concert venue and home of the Chicago Wolves IHL team) changing to something or other. I still call them by their old names. I heard that when Bon Jovi played at the Horizon a year or so ago, he announced to the crowd that it will always be the Rosemont Horizon to him no matter what everyone else calls it. Big friggin' cheer erupted from the audience.

The only professional sports venue in Edmonton that still has its original name is Commonwealth Stadium (named after the 1978 Commonwealth Games, and home of the Eskimos). The Coliseum (home of the Oilers) is now called Rexall Place, and before that was called Skyreach Centre. The baseball field where the Edmonton Trappers (PCL baseball) play (until the end of the summer; they've been sold) is called Telus Field (after the telecommunications company).
