Heart Breaking Moments

As you know or may not know St Joe's Just lost a heartbreaker of a basketball game. With 1 minute left in the game, with a trip to the Final Four on the line, St Joe's was ahead when OSU scored and took the lead with only 6 seconds left, St Joe's tried a last 3 pointer but it missed. As I said, a heartbreaker. I did not go to St Joe's, but I am fan of the Phlly sports teams and that includes the local college sports teams, so my heart broke as well

I thought in this thread we could all share our heart breaking moments be they sports related or otherwise and in this way we could all feel each others pain and help each other through it.

So let the healing begin! Who will go first?

That's not a heart breaking moment!

Well it depends on what's on the TV at that very moment.

Heh, and lighten up Warbler you're on friendly territory here.

biggest heart breaking moment in sports that i ever had was last year on april 4th. the colorado avalanche on the last day of the regular hockey season stole the divion championship, the scoring championship and the most goals championship all from vancouver. they took it all, petre forsberg got 2 pts passing Marcus Nasland. Melan heduke scored twice takeing the rocket ruchard award away from Todd bertuzzi. and the avalanche got 2 pts passing vancouver in the standings and taking the divion crown. Now that is heart breaking.

lol then colorado went down to the wild in the first round. with all the skill on there team they lost. lol i was laughing my ass off they worked so hard to get the 3rd spot to face the wild and then lost.

My heartbreaking moment revolves around Christian Laettner of Duke (bastard!) sinking a buzzer beater to defeat my UK Wildcats in the NCAA Championship game several years back. Then that no-talent hack made the U.S.A. Basketball Dream Team. Cockknocker!

Universal heart-breaking moment: the day we heard Jim Henson died. So many of us grew up with Sesame Street and the Muppet Show that when you hear that the man largely responsible for warping you imagination in your formative years has left this existence, it's almost like losing a friend.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

This one is not quite so universal, but a heartbreaking moment for me (and my wife) was when we heard John Ritter died. We were in shock.

That one qualifies.

*Salutes Sir Peter Ustinov* 1921 - 2004 †, Rest in peace.

He was a great actor and a great person in general. I really loved that old chum.
It may sound silly, but it's a great loss to me.

Nobody has the right to deem what is and what is not a heartbreaking loss to someone else. Grieve, MSD. It's the right thing to do. I did with both Henson and Ritter.

I guess my all time sports heart break was game 6 of the 1993 world series. We were so close to taking it into game 7. It was the bottom of the 9th inning the Phils had a 1 run lead and the Jays had 1 man on base, and Joe bleeping Carter steps up to the plate, and Mitch Willians throw the worst pitch in Phillies history and Carter knocks out of the park and the Jays win the game and the series. Most people think the crack they was Carter hitting the ball. It wasn't it was the sound of my heart breaking. I must of sat in front of the tv in disbelief for 10 minutes. The 1993 Phils team caputured my heart like no other sports team has done before or since. I will always wonder what would have happened in game 7 if the Phils had won game 6.

What a heartbreak
