Any other F1 fans out there? I've been up all night just to watch qualifying for the first race of the season. Starts in 40 minutes. I need sleep

I just heard Schumacker was pole position. Again.

And beat out Ayrton Senna's record for pole positions

Woo-hoo! I'm glad to see a Ferrari on pole, even if I picked Alonso in my Pick8 entry. And Ric, Shumacher just tied Senna's record. There's still a late great Brazilian at least sharing that title for another week.

What do you think, will Yuji Ide manage to go ten laps without being lapped, or will he even keep the Super Hello Kitty on track that long?

LOL, Hello Kitty. Poor fellas.

there's always the chance of Senna getting back from the dead anyway. Meanwhile, Schumaker is still celebrating that night in 1994 in which he sabotaged and took away a few pieces and parts from that Williams car... 12 years later, it finally paid off to that german kid...

Yeah I'm going to hell for it I know

Alas, I fell asleep during qualifying, but woke up before the end. It's weird not seeing a big "1" on Shumie's car. I feel bad for Kimi, though. Kind of a rough way to start the season, eh? I don't know what to think about Super Aguri. They might as well just drive in reverse!

Good race, it was. Should be a great competitive season!

Anyone want to guess at who has a shot at the title?

Even this early on, I don't think anyone can topple Alonso. He's a good driver in a fast and, just as importantly, reliable car. That's a tough package to beat.

I'd like to see Kimi do better this season than he did last, but that'll come down to reliability. He had too many engine failures last year to really pose a big threat. On the other hand, that was Alonso's strong point. If he didn't win, he often ended second, or at least somewhere in the points. The onyl race he didn't finish was Montreal.

What do you think?

EDIT: Welcome to the boards, Kimster! I didn't notice that was your first post.

The next few races will go a long way toward determining how things shake out for the rest of the season. Right now Alonso looks pretty much untouchable, but if the new Bridgestones work well, I expect to see Ferrari and Williams make big steps forward.

I know it wouldn't go well with the red Emirates Air colors on the wings, but I really do wish McLaren had used their old-school orange paint job this season. The chrome paint is mesmerizing in studio photos, but the cars are damn near invisible most of the time on TV.

Anybody care to guess where Toro Rosso will qualify at Monaco?
