Possible 'proof' that Greedo was always meant to shoot

The author of those two $150 books, Paul Duncan, should really be checking his sources before making nonsense claims like that.

If he is making fairly basic mistakes like that, you have to ask if there are other mistakes or false claims is he also making?

I hope someone has saved the tweets or thread from the author for posterity? Sometimes people can get antsy and start deleting stuff when confronted by facts or evidence.

Audio Mixes used for the 2019 SE release of the Original Trilogy - any issues?

As Lucasfilm have had some some issues with their audio mixes for previous releases of the Original Trilogy [cough 2004 DVD and 2011 blu ray releases]… has anyone noticed or reported any issues or problems with the audio mixes on the 2019 SE releases?

Additionally, are they any good?

OT•com threads on the 2019 SE releases (and them appearing on the Disney+ streaming channel):

An Index of OT•com threads on all things the Audio of the Original Trilogy

There have been a number of people asking about where to find information on the various audio mixes, dialogue changes, sound effects used for the Original Trilogy films over the past few months.

So much so that oojason had started work on compiling an ‘Audio Index Thread’ (amongst some other ‘OT•com Archiving’ projects) shortly before he left the site. Thanks to oojason for allowing me to finish his project, and also to Fated-Dualist for asking ooj’s permission and forwarding me on the files and ideas I’ve been able to continue that work and have now completed this project thread (I think!).

I hope this thread will be of some use, interest and help for finding audio information on the Original Trilogy films. To both showcase and archive the knowledge, help and information (not to mention the resoluteness & dedication) of the OT•com members on here.

This is simply an attempt at an index for the numerous OT•com threads about all things audio in the Original Trilogy.

Also included in this thread are some hopefully insightful or informative online articles on the audio used for the three classic Star Wars films.

Some thread content may discuss multiple changes, cover various issues, or overlap into differing categories etc 😃

If you know of any OT•com threads or quality online articles on all things OT audio, and would like to add them to this Index, please post them below. Thank you.

The Main Categories:

• The OT Sound Mixes
• Changes to Dialogue and Sounds in the OT films (and also alternative dialogue and sounds)
• General OT Audio threads
• OT Sound Effects (+ info on Ben Burrt etc)
• OT Scores, Soundtracks and Radio Dramas (+ info on John Williams etc)

^ Some OT•com threads and online articles may discuss various topics and issues, and overlap into different categories or subjects.

The ‘Original Trilogy Discussion’ and ‘Theatrical Cuts vs. Subsequent Releases’ sections of the OriginalTrilogy•com feature many, if not all, of the above audio threads found in this thread.

More Original Trilogy audio threads can also be found in the following threads and OT•com site sections:

Radio Drama threads can be found in ‘An Index & Help Thread for Beyond the Original Trilogy…’

OT Soundtracks threads can be found in ‘An Index & Help Thread for The Expanded Universe Discussion’

Audio Preservations threads can be found in ‘An Index Of Projects for Star Wars Preservations…’

Audio Quality / Improvements threads can also be found in ‘An Index Of Projects for Star Wars Preservations…’

So if you spot any errors, mistakes or broken links, please let me know and I’ll attempt to fix or amend them.

I’m willing to give Number 6 a go if you wish? It’d just be a list of audio/dialogue/music threads and some general online articles, but would help people find the various audio threads on here and information about the different sound mixes etc.

The blurb:

‘George Lucas is commonly quoted as saying that if he had the time and a hammer, he would personally “smash” every bootlegged copy of the disastrous “Star Wars Holiday Special.” However, fans almost universally agree that the best part of the much-maligned Wookie-centric variety show is the Nelvana-produced cartoon segment, directed by Clive Smith. The cartoon features the voices of the original cast, and famously introduces a new character: Boba Fett. Nelvana and Smith’s collaboration with Lucas on the project would lead to 1980s cartoon series “Ewoks” and “Droids.” Here is the cartoon segment in great quality. Happy Life Day!’

1997 SE : The changes to the OT films & general 1997 SE discussion thread

George Lucas / Lucasfilm didn’t just not release ‘The Final Cut(the 1997 Special Editions) on DVD, but they have not released this version of the Original Trilogy on a more modern digital format either. Despite having quality prints of the 1997 cuts available and ready for release.

His previous disingenuous excuses given as to why he won’t release the OOT - money, time and effort in restoring the OOT certainly doesn’t apply to this 1997 SE version.

Given the huge amount of publicity at the time for these 1997 Special Editions and that they were also released in cinemas worldwide they are, themselves, an important piece of film history, as well as a large part of Star Wars history (for better or worse). And fans should have the option to buy & experience these films once again… on a high quality modern home format.

(As said on this site before, it would also be beneficial for those people involved in preservations of the Original Trilogy too.)

Worldwide cinema takings from the three 1997 Special Edition releases:

SW 1997 SE : - $256,905,873
ESB 1997 SE : - $124,830,460
ROTJ 1997 SE : - $89,388,357

Total : $471,124,690

The above total obviously does not include money from the home releases of the 1997 SEs on VHS, VCD and laserdisc. Nor selling the rights to TV companies to show them around the world. Or merchandising and toy sales. Not to mention the free advertising and ‘word of mouth’ publicity for the coming Prequel Trilogy films starting in 1999.

The Mandalorian - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

Tobar, the images in your post do not show up (for me anyway).

What a starts to the new season. I must admit I was wary of letting the trailers, promos, chatter and excitement for the return of the series overhype it (or me) to a point where the first episode may have felt flat or lacking in something. But no, it was such a satisfying and enjoyable watch. Something I want to go back and watch again and again.

The power of simple storytelling done well, by talented people with an obvious love and admiration for what has come before, whilst doing their own thing… and it still working for modern audiences of all generations today 😃

This is the way.

Uncorrected mistakes or unfixed issues of the 2019 (Maclunkey) Original Trilogy release?

As there are two previous threads for talking about the unfixed issues & uncorrected mistakes of the 2004 & 2011 OT releases:

What errors or mistakes still remain in this latest release of the Original Trilogy that are in need of fixing? Or improving upon?

Star Wars News - articles that may not have enough interest for their own threads...

John Boyega Would Love to See Finn’s Axed ‘Star Wars’ Storyline Get Told on TV or Animation’:

John Boyega openly criticized the most recent “Star Wars” trilogy for sidelining its characters of color, including his character Finn and Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose, so what does the actor think of the original storyline that got axed? A script leak for Colin Trevorrow’s scrapped Episode IX, titled “Duel of the Fates,” revealed Finn was originally going to end the trilogy by becoming a revolutionary and leading a class rebellion along with Rose on the galactic capital planet of Coruscant. The axed storyline would’ve completed Finn’s arc from defected Stormtrooper in “The Force Awakens” to the leader of an ex-Stormtrooper uprising in “The Rise of Skywalker.”

Trevorrow’s “Duel of the Fates” was rewritten by Chris Terrio and J.J. Abrams, and Finn’s revolutionary storyline was erased and redrafted as a much smaller role in what became “The Force Awakens.” Finn’s original storyline lives on in “Star Wars” concept art, which Boyega has seen and tells Yahoo he would have loved to see through.

“I think Colin Trevorrow was going to tell that story,” Boyega said. “The concept art in the ‘Star Wars’ book has that image of Finn with the blue flag, and you have the AT-ATs lined up with tribal marks, and the stormtroopers take off their helmets. That would have been sick. That would have been dope, hands down.”

Boyega said he’s a big fan of the Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” (“Lucasfilm is doing very well with TV shows”), which is why he’d love to watch Finn’s original story arc get completed on TV (“If they could do it all in TV, I would love to watch it”). Does that mean Boyega would return as Finn? Not quite, although he expressed more interest in returning when pitched an animated series to complete Finn’s arc. “Animated? Yeah that would be cool,” Boyega said. “You could do it all from home.”

As for why he spoke out against the “Star Wars” trilogy for sidelining Finn, Boyega said, “I’m just trying to do what I was offered and I’m trying to fulfill my job. We all know that what makes roles so lucrative [are] the moments you give them. If Captain America doesn’t show out and show down and isn’t given the scenes to boost his representation, and to make him enjoyable for you guys, we won’t think he’s cool. Why shouldn’t Black characters and Black actors also fight for that same kind of representation?”

It’d be interesting to see a fan animation of this, I hope someone does something along that storyline one day.

Good to see John Boyega not distancing himself from Star Wars too.
