The original is quite scary, and merges better with Williams' score. So yeah that one. And what's your favorite version of Vader's lightsaber, pink or red?
Honestly, I prefer the Bluray. It sounds more human to me, so I can associate it with Ben. Before, I always thought it was just a sound effect added to set the tone of them being scared off.
Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000
The original. It sounds like a real creature making the sound.
If a combination of the sound of an orgasm mixed with the sound of someone getting hot coffee poured on their crotch scares sandpeople off, then I just don't know what the galaxy is coming to.
Ben Burtt had nothing to do with the new one, correct?
Where were you in '77?
To me the original has always sounded better. The new one is laughable at best. It is just two guys making stupid noises and stuck through a bog standard effects chamber. It never needed to sound more human. It sounded great that he could imitate a creature which scared the Tuskens. Now when i watch this scene and hear that new howl i keep expecting the Tusken's to tuen, pause then fall about on the floor laughing. And, yes i know they are supposed to be easily startled, but if they can be scared off by a silly whooping noise then how can they be so feared? It makes the scene in AOTC, when they talk about the Tusken raid and how many died pathetic. They should have just all made some silly noises and the Tuskens would have legged it ;)
But, surely, it's not supposed to sound human is it? It's supposed to sound like a Krayt Dragon. Isn't that the point?
The new version is awful. To me, it just sounds like some guy who recorded himself shouting something......then played backwards. Very cheap.
I think this is just one of those things that didn't need changing. And the change hasn't improved it at all.
Spoiler free for the ST
The 2004 version. Although I don't mind the original.
Original. There was never no need to change it.
looking for HDTV of the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

At the end of the day, non of those sounds could've come from Alec Guinness, so the original is best. I don't question how he made the sound.
In a universe of lightsabers, space ships the size of moons, and the force, a man making a noise like that is possible through a device or the force.
The sound on the Blu Ray, in my opinion, further proves that George Lucas wants to screw with us. It's almost like he's cramming in shit, because he knows it will rattle our cage, and the fanboys will lap it up like a kitten on a tit.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

That's a lot of my point I guess, it never stood out to me as any more than part of the soundtrack.
And Vader's saber SHOULD be purple. He brings balance to the force, thus blue + red ... :P

The blu-ray version is ridiculous. I don't remember what the '04 version sounds like.
This is my favorite version:
“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
The version from 04 is the same sound that the lizard makes in Episode 3. No one noticed though because ROTS didn't come out for another year.
"The only decision made here today was one of cowardice. They’ve placed the burden of this war on the shoulders of one man and thus appointed a dictator. No honest man pines for supreme authority. All good men know of their own fallibility." -what Mace Windu should have said in Episode II-
Definitely the original '77 call. lol I always found it funny how the very start of the call sounds almost like a siren (well to me it does), but it's no way near as atrocious as the one heard on the Blu-ray release.
FINISHED Projects: Chronologically LOST HD
like most changes I've gotta wonder what the rationale behind the change was? the original always sounded more threatening and alien, the special edition update sounded like a strangled chicken and the latest is just laughable.
I wonder what Ben Burt thought of the change?

I'm not usually a conspiracy type of guy, but that's been my thought on the more ridiculous changes for a while now. Lucas has been a control freak with a colossal ego for years.
The moment someone says he shouldn't do something - whether it be peers or fans - he makes it a priority to do it. The NOOOOOO, the new dragon call, etc - the more the fan base gets upset, the more he shows them who's boss. At this point in the history of the franchise, to me, it's the only logical explanation.
Regarding the calls; I've only heard the original. It works just fine for me.

I don't disbelieve that he didn't disagree.

In that case, the sadistic side of me wants us all to carry on complaining just to see how much more he can mess these movies up. Afterall, the damage is already done. Might be kind of funny....
Digitally inserted 9-year old Han in ROTS, anyone?

"Changing classic movies at all is just wrong." Puggo
"HA, Ha, you r ghey" was probably a hilariously insulting comment in Elementary and Middle School, but its not cooly insulting anymore and its certainly not funny: it makes people who say it look like, well, an "inbred monkey." TheSessler
"I'm still %20 the wiser. It amused me that after doing a google image search for "The Final Milf" the second picture is Roger Delgado followed by lots and lots of porn." Bingowings

I just wonder what it will take to piss off the elite fans like the ones at TFN.
Just when is Lucas going to finally cross the line with them?

There is no line more egregious than the one crossed in 1997. If you can handle those changes, you're quite likely good with Harrison Ford being digitally replaced by Howie Mandel, as long as it's still blessed as the Original Vision[TM].
