Back in the early 90’s I swear I saw a version of Star Wars where the Stormtroopers chasing Han and Chewie in the Death Star said “Close the blast doors”, only to have Han and Chewie jump through as they were closing, then they said the line we have in there now “Open the blast doors”. I thought it was hilarious. It’s obviously not in the '77 theatrical release, but I swear I saw it way before the 97 Special Edition. Anyone know where this first appeared?

Interestingly the “Close the Blast Doors” phrase was there from the beginning in the German Dub. At least my 1990 VHS TV Rip contains it (“Schließt die Panzertüren!”).

Yes, it’s not easy to retrace why this specific phrase was included in the German dub, but on the other hand was completely absent from the english audio track. But it’s not the only audio anomaly in the German dub. As Adywan pointed out in this thread

Ever since, I can’t see anything else.
God that actor musta felt like an asshole. It probably really hurt—he hits that shit pretty hard!

In AotC, they made a callback to this by having Jango Fett bang his head on the door of Slave I. And so now the comedy is that Jango’s clumsy DNA got into the Stormtrooper vats! Har har har!

Yes, Lucas mentions that in the AOTC audio commentary at the very specific scene. Another one of these many things he thought that would be considered … funny.

I think they might have actually added an impact noise for the mono mix. At least that’s what it sounds like. Right as he hits his head you hear a *ktch* like noise.
I thought the ktch noise was the other trooper initializing his radio.
