Question about audio in Star Wars 97SE - Tantive Klaxons

Hey, long time lurker, first time poster here.

My question is about the klaxons in the opening sequence on the Tantive IV. The original stereo mix of ANH had one version of the Klaxon (the one most people are probably more familiar with, and the one heard at the end of R1). The Mono mix used a different, lower klaxon (also heard on the death star, and in the R1 trailer) — and you can barely hear the original klaxon once or twice.

At some point, the scene was mixed to contain BOTH klaxons at the same time. That mix hadn’t happened yet with the 1985 or 1993 laserdisc mixes. It is in the 2004 DVD release and subsequent versions.

So my question is: in the 1997 Special Edition, can you hear both klaxons on the Tantive IV, or just one? If just one, which one?

I lost track of my copy of Team Blu’s 1997 ANH, but this should be an easy question for someone more organized than me to answer since the 97 DTS tracks are pretty widely available. Anyone with their shit together care to check?

The 1997 SE indeed contains both Klaxons. The mono version is more prominent during the first shot onboard the Tantive, with the more familiar taking prominence after that.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Thank you! That’s the same as the 2004 DVD and current Blu-rays.

I think content-wise, the 2004 and 1997 are very similar. The only thing I can think of as different off the top of my head is the “He’s on your tail!” line before red leader is killed. Anyone care to add to this?

For the most part the 2004 seems to be the 1997 mix that they (accidentally?) Let a toddler come push whatever buttons he felt like on the mixing board and compressor, then decided to find thousands of vhs copies of the movie and take each and every line of dialogue from a different one of them.
