This appears to be true. They’ve also included the Fox Fanfares, and updated the Lucasfilm logos to match the Sequels.

Edit:

And would you believe it? They changed the Greedo scene, AGAIN! He’s got an extra line now right before the shooting starts.

Is it too early to ask how the new 4K presentation compares to 4K77 for example?

Can anyone comment on the colour grade of these?

People have said the grading is redone and looks more like the theatrical version.

Great. Good thing that the other day I was doing some video editing and took some scenes from Despecialized and put them into the Silver Screen Edition because I prefer Silver Screen Edition’s color grading for the most part but there are a few scenes where Despecialized has it better. No, I’m not sharing it, but I’m just saying that that’ll be my copy of Star Wars, not this. Yes, I have 4K77 too, but I’m not a big fan of it TBH.

Wow, so are these the 4K restorations Reliance did then? The color grading is improved (thank the maker) but Greedo is still Greedo-ing.

What in the worlllld

So this is an upscale of the 2011 SE with a different color grade and (cringe) a further edited Greedo scene? I take it episode 2 and 3 are also upscales?

What about The Phantom Menace? Is that also an upscale of 1080p elements, is it true 4k… or is it an upscale of a 2k master?

It’s been confirmed that these are the 4K restorations done by Reliance in 2012, before Lucas sold the company, intended to be the base from which a 3D re-release series would be created.

Entirely new 4K scan & color grade. NOT the blu-rays from 2011 as previously reported.

The colors look closer to the theatrical, yet its still the 2011 SE changes. It’s so weird to look at. It’s almost like the rescanned the prints they have. It just looks so odd. Also the greedo addition… like WHY?

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

If these were indeed the rescanned’s that Lucas commissioned to be used for his 3D versions than perhaps the Greedo line is a Lucas change that just never made it to the public until now.

Jedit: The colors on the Death Star do look amazing, I never thought we would see a new version of the film though, it’s astounding to me.

My nitpicky addition to these conversations: The 2011 blu-ray release isn’t a Special Edition. The only Special Edition came out in 1997. Everything else since then is just a version of Star Wars. It’s easier to simply delineate any version by year than it is to continue calling them all “Special Editions.”

At this point, the name is a complete misnomer. There’s nothing “special” about them - the only one that’s actually special is the 1997 one, because it got a theatrical re-release under that title.

I just did a brief glance at ROTS on Mustafar and even the colors there are different. I wonder if every single film has a new color grading to it. It’s almost like someone took the brightness down and then boosted the contrast during the Obi/Ani fight.

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

It almost looks like an automatic HDR to SDR conversion for the 1080p streams. Or maybe I’m just too used to seeing the retina-burning colors of the old HD masters.

the 1080p/non-4k versions definitely still have the changes. i’ve watched sections on my phone and PS4.
i’ve resolved to finally buying a 4k tv set this weekend to get to the bottom of this.

I only spotchecked TPM, TESB and ROTJ. I found that unlike the worldwide DVD and BR releases, TFA does NOT have burned in English subtitles.

ANH is definitely different. With my attempts to correct some of these things, my guess is that this is a genuine 4k scan. It still suffers from being too red (all of them except TLJ do) and too dark, but other than that, Just about every issue with the previous scan (DVD/HDTV/BR) that has pissed me off over the years has been fixed. This release of ANH lifts it to the watchable category for the first time in digital form. So many corrections and I haven’t even really watched the entire thing yet. This gives me a reason to watch the entire saga fresh before TROS.

It also means a new master to use for color correcting. One that won’t require near as much work.

Now for the BIG question … can anyone figure out a way to get these off of Disney+?

I’m certain we’ll have webrips in HD by the end of the day. If they’re not up at certain pirate-based outposts already.

Well, someone ripped the first episode of The Mandalorian in 4K HDR on Blutopia. I’m sure 4K rips of the Star Wars movies will follow shortly.

Also, I understand this isn’t at the top of everyone’s list, but are there any new subtitle/dubbing languages available? Can someone post a complete list?

I only went into that setting in two movies and I didn’t see anything unusual. Not very many choices. Spanish audio and English, Spanish, and Netherlands subtitles.
