your thoughts: Did Disney kill star wars because it sounds like they did with the last jedi solo and resistance.

The old Jedi Order took students from infancy in order to control their emotional attachments, which they saw as gateways to the dark side. This is why they were so reluctant to take on Anakin as a Jedi. I think it gave the wrong impression that learning how to use the Force took years, when that really isn’t the entirely the case. It has more to do with belief, and one’s ability to “let go of your conscious self”.

It also surprises me a little that people haven’t considered as much that the Force itself has changed between the trilogies. The Force isn’t a static ability, it’s dynamic and connected to life itself, making it in a way alive.

Episode 7 is literally called The Force Awakens. What does that mean? Is it not possible that this awakening is not partially responsible for the feats we’ve seen across the board in the new films, like Kylo Ren freezing blaster bolts, Rey’s fast-growing abilities, their subsequent Force-Skype sessions, Leia pulling herself back to the ship, Luke’s Force projection, even broom boy’s subtle Force pull?

You could even argue this began with Luke in the OT, the first real student of the Force since the Jedi Purge. He really only had a few weeks at most of official training with Yoda, but in Return of the Jedi, only a year later with no additional training under Yoda, he is on the verge of officially becoming a Jedi.

It raises some questions about the nature of the Force. Does the overall use of the Force have an affect on its potential in existing Force-users? Does the Force have a will of its own to choose who it acts through? Did training Jedi from infancy have a side-effect of limiting their relationship with the Force in ways that didn’t exist for those who discovered it at adulthood? Is the Force just like an ocean, where the tide can rise and fall?

I personally think these questions about the Force should really never be answered fully, and should remain mysterious, simple-yet-complicated, and sometimes contradictory, much like the Tao that inspired it, and also as a concept of a universal religion-symbol that George meant it to be, since religions are also endlessly debated upon.

I think the important theme we are meant to take from the Force is the ideas of faith and belief, the crux of all religions, and the internal power we can get from faith in our own lives, religious or not. Luke struggles with the Force in the OT because of his doubt in the Force and his own personal self-doubt.

Rey on the other hand grew up with the legend of Luke Skywalker and the Jedi, and not long after learning about the reality of the them, she slowly learns that she’s also connected to this Force and begins her own journey of self-discovery and self-actualization.

With broom boy, moments before his Force use, he is being told the story of Luke Skywalker’s grand stand against the evil First Order, with wonder in his eyes. He believes in the Jedi, in the Force, and that subtle moment, something he might not have even realized he did, is a representation of what the power of faith and hope can have in the world and in ourselves.

Anyway, just my two cents. Not trying to argue, just sharing my perspective.

^ very well said ! I came to the same conclusion a few pages back about the title literally being The Force Awakens on the first of the ST movies , but you expanded upon it here better than I did . Also brings to mind the tagline in the trailer for TFA , " There has been an awakening , have you felt it "?

And for me also explains why Snoke mistakenly thinks it may be Luke returning from self-imposed exile / cutting himself from the Force (and therefore in a rush to locate and destroy Luke) - not Rey - who is the actual awakening in the Force.

Snoke - ‘Come closer, child. So much strength. Darkness rises and light to meet it. I warned my young apprentice that as he grew stronger, his equal in the light would rise. Skywalker… I assumed, wrongly. Closer I said.’

As AntcuFaalb posted on the previous page - they are no longer up on the spleen - and unfortunately haven’t been for quite some time.

Yes, but 7FN asked for them to be removed.

I just did a check on there (just in case) and couldn’t locate them either.

Hopefully they are other ways to find them - or some kind soul on here may be able to help…

Just played Rogue Leader - man, I’m struggling to get Bronze medals! Doh! Am slowly unlocking the levels and getting the power-ups.

It’s a lot more difficult than I remember it - otherwise will have to blame the controller or something… (must be faulty) 😉

Still a lot of fun and enjoyment though (up until the medal screen, anyway).

Forgot to mention “More Than Physical” by Bananarama.

I vaguely remember the video with everyone it being oiled up somewhat… (that was thing for Bananarama back in the day for a while?) though can’t remember how the song went at all - and am too scared to visit youtube to find out 😉

Instead I’ll just hum the Cruel Summer beat… 😃

Info Wanted: THE KEEP? any 35mm preservations?
Time

There is a discussion thread on a 35mm project for ‘The Keep’ here, mate:-

The Keep (1983) 35mm Preservation

and a couple of other non-35mm projects for it - 1 a Fan Edit, and 1 other Preservation project on it which may be of interest, or contain some useful info.

Good luck with it 😃

Edit: as ^…^ says in the linked thread above, there is also a thread on a 35mm project re The Keep on fanres - they’re a pretty cool, knowledgeable & helpful community - so may well be worth checking it out mate.

Rogue Squadron II is a good one, but I remember part III being full of bad third person levels. I think the Clone Wars game was kinda fun in a mindless action sort of way. Just don’t buy Jedi Outcast it’s a really bad port.

Cheers man, I remember the two Rogue Leader games on the GC from back in the day when I used to have it (loved the space battle missions IIRC), and sort of have fuzzy memories for Jedi Outcast (a lot of ‘Force Pushing’ people off cliffs and was somewhat repetitive after a while?) - though it’s coming free as part of the bundle, so no worries on that score.

Haven’t played Clone Wars or Bounty Hunter before - looking forward to that - though will likely start with the two Rogue Leader games - and be frustrated by how bad I’ve become at it 😃

Is there a thread for complimenting yourself? I don’t mean in a narcissistic way, just a general self-affirmation thread. It seems most of the members here, including me, are very self-depreciating.

This thread below possibly comes close, maybe?

If you need to compliment or praise something… this is the place

There are a few similar / related threads that can be found in the Index thread for the Cantina section too.

Hope it’s of some help mate.

Edit: there is always a ‘search option’ too man…

You can search for any of the threads on the OT•com by going to your online search engine of choice (ie, google, startpage, bing, duckduckgo, yahoo etc) and type in:-

site:originaltrilogy.com and then whatever you are looking for.

For example - if searching for adywan edits, type in - site:originaltrilogy.com adywan edits

and hopefully more helpful hints and tips in this thread…

‘How do I do this?’ on the OriginalTrilogy.com - some information & answers to queries

For me, no. Not sure why TFA and Rogue One aren’t included in your post (they are Disney-era Star Wars too, yes?) - yet here goes…

I didn’t get past the first few episodes of Resistance - though I imagine it’s generally aimed more for a younger audience than this mid-40’s fan. I’ll likely watch it with nephews and nieces - seems a decent intro for them into all things Star Wars. Though including a new animated tv series that hasn’t yet reached the end of it’s first season in your post that partially ‘Did Disney kill star wars because it sounds like they did’ kill Star Wars… seems somewhat strange.

What is ‘sounds like they did’? Internet gossip and videos? Other fans’ (or media) negative / clickbait views? Box office? I don’t care much for those to be honest - more of a case ‘did I enjoy these films’? And for the most part, yes - I did. A few parts I didn’t like, or thought could have been handled better - though am still yet to see a ‘perfect’ film (Star Wars or not)

Has Disney ‘killed SW’ with the content you listed? For me, no - my enjoyment of the films (and also criticisms) hasn’t been diminished by some claiming it sounds like Disney ‘killed’ it - whatever that vague / open question means.

Are they up there with the OT? Not for me (Rogue One apart). Still, with an episode to still come with the Sequel Trilogy… they’ve been a lot more enjoyable than the Prequels for me - and has seen the SW universe return to a welcome OT feel and vibe. That’s not to say I didn’t have issues with them (tone and impact of certain events), as well as some of the choice made so far.

I’m eagerly looking forward to IX, and also both The Mandalorian and Cassian Andor tv series - with some intrigue for RJ and the GOT lads’ respective SW trilogies to come (though kind of difficult to be excited in something of which we know nothing about - though hope they are both on a par with their previous quality bodies of work). Personally, I hope they’ll be set apart from the main Saga or timeframes we’ve seen so far - perhaps stories around the KOTOR era, or the GFFA set in the future - would be most welcome.

I actually made a thread about this, and the whole 1977 “interview”, a few years ago, and I wouldn’t put too much faith in anything claimed in it. Turns out that Lucas tampered with that interview when it was printed in the “The Making of Star Wars” book in order to make it more compatible with the PT.

What’s interesting though, is that this version of Threepio’s origin was eventually canonized in a comic. So in Legends canon, Threepio was never actually created by Anakin, but rather just rebuilt.

Intriguing read that mate, thanks.

Impressive stuff (and am off for a Pink Floyd session later 😃)

Got to admit I wish I kept my old CRT tv from years back - was great for watching sci-fi films on in that it seemed to have a depth of quality not really there for many of the-then modern flatscreen tv’s at the time (Pioneer and Panasonic plasma units apart). The CRT did take up fair bit of room though, IIRC - yet gave off a fair bit of heat, which wasn’t bad for cold nights in front of the tv in a small room.
