Star Wars internet Rabbit holes
Time

Sweet idea for a thread, mate! 👍

I love the vibe of that stylish Star Wars Archives site you linked to (and their facebook and twitter pages).

Darth Neo has done an awesome job on it, from 2007 to present - The Star Wars Archives, a different kind of preservation

Some OT / SW sites that older members on here likely know and remember well - though may not have visited in a while…

SaveStarWars.com - zombie84’s site; comprehensive research into the history of Star Wars - also highlighting much of the revisionism / contradictions from George…

Secret History Of Star Wars - another zombie84 website, as above this time re zombie84’s book; website is re-hosted by none

Star Wars Special Edition Visual Comparisons - doubleofive’s quality and intriguing resource blog

Star Wars Holiday Special website - for me, the definitive SWHS site; run by SKot

HelloGreedo’s ‘Star Wars Profiles’ video series of actors and people BTS of the Original Trilogy (and beyond…)

Jambe Davdar’s Filmumentaries Site - video projects, documentaries and interviews etc

The People Vs George Lucas - website for the 2010 documentary : Internet Archive page : OT.com thread

Star Wars At The Movies - a beautiful looking resource for the OT films (with articles, blog and podcasts)

Kitbashed - The Origins of Star Wars - absorbing and insightful e-book/blog on Star Wars origins (run by Heilemann)

The Making of Star Wars - Timeline - a superb resource of the OT in chronological format (www.audiori.net/starwars)

the old Official Star Wars blog - at WordPress - May 2007 to January 2008; before the 2011 closedowns and changes. From when official Star Wars platforms still interacted and engaged with the fans + their various diverging interests in the GFFA.

Doctor Who Series 12 Announcement…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/entries/89823d93-ca6c-486b-9c82-2a71cd1560bb

'As series 11 came to a close on BBC One tonight (Sunday 9th December) the show announced that series 12 is on its way and will be returning to BBC One in early 2020.

Series 11 marked a brand new era for Doctor Who with Showrunner, Chris Chibnall, taking control of the TARDIS. With Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, viewers saw the Doctor and her friends travel through space and time on adventures fighting monsters and conquering battles. Series 12 will see Jodie reprise her role as the Doctor and she will once again be joined by Bradley Walsh (Graham), Mandip Gill (Yasmin) and Tosin Cole (Ryan).

So far, from the first eight episodes, series 11 of Doctor Who has averaged a 4-screen consolidated audience of 8.4m.

Jodie’s first episode as the Doctor launched with a consolidated audience of 11 million making it the second biggest drama this year across all channels, while also placing it among the top 10 programmes in 2018 so far across all channels and genres. The episode received 3.7 million requests through BBC iPlayer.

Speaking of the return Showrunner Chris Chibnall said “We’re off again! Well we never actually stopped - as Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and friends have been winning the hearts of families across the nation this autumn, we’ve been busy with a whole new set of action packed adventures for the Thirteenth Doctor. We adore making this show and have been blown away by the response from audiences, so we can’t wait to bring more scares, more monsters and more Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole to BBC One. Brilliant!”

Charlotte Moore, Director of Content added, “We’re delighted that the Doctor and her friends will be returning to thrill audiences in 2020. I know Chris and the whole team are already working on a whole new set of exciting adventures. In the meantime we’ve got a very special episode on New Year’s Day for everyone to enjoy.”’

^ A shame we have to wait until 2020 (or after the New Year Special) - though very much looking forward how they approach the second season with the new cast and showrunners (& also writers) now settled in, as it were…

Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in the Star Wars Movies

Alec Guinness for me too. Stole the show as it were with his layered and quality performance in Star Wars '77.

There are some great performances in Star Wars over the years - all adding layers and depth to the GFFA, absorbingly pulling the viewer in… though for me the Kind Hearted Coroneter stands out.

your thoughts: Did Disney kill star wars because it sounds like they did with the last jedi solo and resistance.
Time

screams in the void said:

RogueLeader said:

The old Jedi Order took students from infancy in order to control their emotional attachments, which they saw as gateways to the dark side. This is why they were so reluctant to take on Anakin as a Jedi. I think it gave the wrong impression that learning how to use the Force took years, when that really isn’t the entirely the case. It has more to do with belief, and one’s ability to “let go of your conscious self”.

It also surprises me a little that people haven’t considered as much that the Force itself has changed between the trilogies. The Force isn’t a static ability, it’s dynamic and connected to life itself, making it in a way alive.

Episode 7 is literally called The Force Awakens. What does that mean? Is it not possible that this awakening is not partially responsible for the feats we’ve seen across the board in the new films, like Kylo Ren freezing blaster bolts, Rey’s fast-growing abilities, their subsequent Force-Skype sessions, Leia pulling herself back to the ship, Luke’s Force projection, even broom boy’s subtle Force pull?

You could even argue this began with Luke in the OT, the first real student of the Force since the Jedi Purge. He really only had a few weeks at most of official training with Yoda, but in Return of the Jedi, only a year later with no additional training under Yoda, he is on the verge of officially becoming a Jedi.

It raises some questions about the nature of the Force. Does the overall use of the Force have an affect on its potential in existing Force-users? Does the Force have a will of its own to choose who it acts through? Did training Jedi from infancy have a side-effect of limiting their relationship with the Force in ways that didn’t exist for those who discovered it at adulthood? Is the Force just like an ocean, where the tide can rise and fall?

I personally think these questions about the Force should really never be answered fully, and should remain mysterious, simple-yet-complicated, and sometimes contradictory, much like the Tao that inspired it, and also as a concept of a universal religion-symbol that George meant it to be, since religions are also endlessly debated upon.

I think the important theme we are meant to take from the Force is the ideas of faith and belief, the crux of all religions, and the internal power we can get from faith in our own lives, religious or not. Luke struggles with the Force in the OT because of his doubt in the Force and his own personal self-doubt.

Rey on the other hand grew up with the legend of Luke Skywalker and the Jedi, and not long after learning about the reality of the them, she slowly learns that she’s also connected to this Force and begins her own journey of self-discovery and self-actualization.

With broom boy, moments before his Force use, he is being told the story of Luke Skywalker’s grand stand against the evil First Order, with wonder in his eyes. He believes in the Jedi, in the Force, and that subtle moment, something he might not have even realized he did, is a representation of what the power of faith and hope can have in the world and in ourselves.

Anyway, just my two cents. Not trying to argue, just sharing my perspective.

^ very well said ! I came to the same conclusion a few pages back about the title literally being The Force Awakens on the first of the ST movies , but you expanded upon it here better than I did . Also brings to mind the tagline in the trailer for TFA , " There has been an awakening , have you felt it "?

And for me also explains why Snoke mistakenly thinks it may be Luke returning from self-imposed exile / cutting himself from the Force (and therefore in a rush to locate and destroy Luke) - not Rey - who is the actual awakening in the Force.

Snoke - ‘Come closer, child. So much strength. Darkness rises and light to meet it. I warned my young apprentice that as he grew stronger, his equal in the light would rise. Skywalker… I assumed, wrongly. Closer I said.’
