Not sure if we’ve had a specific thread on Lucas’ inconsistent statements before.

That surely would be interesting.

There are a few older threads re various interviews and speeches by George Lucas in the ‘Archival / Historical discussions’ section of the Original Trilogy Discussion Index - and the ‘George Lucas / Lucasfilm’ section of the Theatrical Cuts vs. Subsequent Releases Index which highlight some of contradictions or discrepancies from the man himself. Though unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be one thread that goes through them all - or none that I can find so far…

Hopefully someone here will remember one (or know of one elsewhere) 😃

Man, he’s told so many versions of everything through the decades - it would be nearly impossible to gather and quantify them all. He’s been a pathological lia and revisionist almost since the beginning.

One film, nine films, six films, twelve films, six films, twelve films, or nine films.

Claims to have had The Saga (genuflect) all planned out since the early 70s, yet hired two separate authors to write a sequel to the only film - after it became a success.

Vader as father, princess as sister, Midichlorians, Han shot second, etc, etc, etc

From the Desk of Charles Lippincott…

“The ‘secret weapon’ behind Star Wars”

^ I think this has been posted on here before - though I can’t find it right now. And besides, it’s an article worthy repeating.

It’s also a great insightful blog too - from one of the unsung contributors (now almost erased from the official history) who helped the make the Star Wars universe what it was.

Is there a bullet point post or thread on here with all the inconsistencies or myths from George Lucas or Lucasfilm revisionism?

Winter Is Coming…

Sorry, I was thinking of something else, there.

A post is coming…

It may not be a very good post - though it will attempt to be an introductory source of info… compiling and highlighting some of the contradictions / revisionism over the years from George - and feature a few events of retcon-free Star Wars history too. As well as also pointing to some useful and more in-depth sources as well. Hopefully it’ll be posted on here sometime middle of next week.

Edit: Here is the post - George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist…

x

^ It is a start, at least, with some 25 bullet-points - and will hopefully grow with the input & knowledge of this community, as well as contributions, topics and info previously discussed on here over the years for inclusion too. Or maybe it will just sink without a trace…?

Posts and threads like this one on the OT•com - My take (long) - from 2005 by my old wise friend - and many other similar posts and discussions by countless others on here over the years who were there at the start of this all… the original film, then sequel, then becoming a Trilogy in 1983… finally motivated me to do something like the above ‘compilation’ project thread.

And it is also for those of us who have lived through the actual history of it all - Lucas’ original story - before the later conflicting claims, retcons, disingenuous statements, re-writing of history in an attempt… to give some sort of illusion there was an overall ‘grand master plan’ or ‘it was always about Vader’… so much so it is almost unrecognisable from the factual history of Star Wars. As well as being for newer or younger fans on here who only know of this new official revisionist history by George & Lucasfilm.

Edit: from the Category No. 36. Midichlorians and The Force… (and a 30 year retcon by George Lucas) post…

On midi-chlorians…

It is also worth noting that some 30 years later… George Lucas retconned the term ‘Midichlorians’ into JW Rinzler’s 2007 ‘Making Of Star Wars’ book (page 353) - changing the words and quote he himself had used back in 1977, when explaining some notions regarding ‘the Force’…

The original quote from Lucas’ 1977 interview with Carol Titelman (author of ‘The Art of Star Wars’) is:-

”It is said that certain creatures are born with a higher awareness of the Force than humans. Their brains are different. The Force is a perception of the reality that exists around us.”

^ a screenshot of the original 1977 quote - from So what the heck are Midichlorians? - 2013 article at the official Star Wars website:-

The retconned quote - amended by George Lucas - and now appearing in JW Rinzler’s 2007 ‘Making Of Star Wars’ book is:-

”It is said certain creatures are born with a higher awareness of the Force than humans. Their brains are different; they have more midi-chlorians in their cells. The Force is a perception of the reality that exists around us.”

^ a screenshot from Page 353 of the 2007 book - with George Lucas’ newly altered quote… to now include mention of ‘midi-chlorians’:-

When fans noticed + questioned this retcon… author JW Rinzler later admitted Lucas had changed the original quote, here:-

‘[Please note: While we were preparing the text for The Making of Star Wars, Lucas added a note to this passage about midi-chlorians, bringing his original words in line with his later thoughts and the events of the prequel trilogy.]’

HelloGreedo also did a decent take on the situation of George doing some time-travelling retconning - as well as posing the very pertinent question: "If this [quote] was changed to fit a narrative, then what else was changed? I mean, maybe nothing, maybe this is the only instance, but when one thing is a proven fabrication… in a book that is kind of a historical look at the making of something… you know I can’t help but wonder if anything else was altered?"

What’s the deal with Midi-chlorians?’ a 13 minute from the HelloGreedo youtube channel…

www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFgIP5n_Pu4

The blurb: ‘When midi-chlorians first popped up in Star Wars, it became one of many things that divided the fandom. When Qui-Gon mentioned them in Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, the Force seemed to change forever. Let’s talk about midi-chlorians; their history in and out of universe, and I’ll give my thoughts on those little microscopic force-communicators.’

There were some ponderings for an OriginalTrilogy.com’s own documentary? - though they were a good 10 years ago, now…

Many of us may remember this from George - apparently a joke - along with the old saying: ‘Many a true word is spoken in jest’…

A brief ‘info post’ covering just a few of George’s gaslighting and divisive comments made to / about fans over the years

^ Hopefully someone here will create a whole separate thread dedicated to George’s many gaslighting and divisive comments to fans.

It’s not inconsistent: he used “unused” designs for the PT, while Disney is “re”-using old design already seen in the OT for the ST.

If you’ve read the drafts of the original screenplay, you know he not only reused some unused concepts in the PT, but unused names. Utapau, Mace, Windu, Cleeg, and a bunch of other names come straight off the pages of early drafts. Quite fun in some ways.

I really hate it that he thinks he has to spout so much BS about his original plans. I’d be far more interested in the twists and turns he went through. I’d love to hear what his real original plans were for Vader (the name is intriguing). Did the father aspect come to him when he picked the name or later. But we will never know because he thinks he has to cover his tracks and make us think he always intended it that way. I think there is some kernel of truth in his BS, but I want to know exactly what that is, not hear his BS. Because he may fool the casual fan but not us diehards.

Mace wasn’t exactly unused before. 😉
