We have X in HD, but we still don't have Star Wars

We’re now approaching a decade since the end of the HD wars, and I think it’s time to catalogue all the cinematic masterpieces that we have available for our HD viewing pleasure while we wait for a proper Star Wars release. You know, for posterity.

Kudos to Mocata.

We have a the first color Doctor Who TV story in proper HD, but not Star Wars.

JEDIT: Not saying that DW story is unworthy of the HD treatment, mind you, it’s just kind of mind-boggling when you consider that we don’t (and can’t) even have proper standard def copies of many of the episodes that surround it.

We have Revenge of the Sith in (mostly) theatrical HD fashion, but not Star Wars.

Only by virtue of a labor strike at the BBC forcing them to shoot the entire story on film at the time.

I often wonder if those people who made the decision to have [insert TV show/movie/special here] shot on video ever smack their heads in hindsight over their misjudgement.

I doubt too many people foresaw HD or home video, or thought what they were working on was going to air more than a few times. Television shows were often considered disposable entertainment, which is why too many things were erased or just thrown out.

True, but still, I own “Spearhead from Space” on an official Blu-Ray that isn’t insultingly revisionist, but not Star Wars. That’s crazy to me.

I think I’m okay with the doctor who one, as long as his shins weren’t showing.

We have the Producers’ Cut of Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers, but we don’t have Star Wars.

Having seen Halloween 6 I don’t consider that a good thing. 😉

The Producers’ Cut is about 1% less awful. That’s saying very little.

I wonder if any of the Highlander sequels have been remastered in HD. That would be the ultimate farce.

Pretty sure H2 has been out on Blu Ray for a while.

That fact that is coming out at all given who’s starring in it is mind boggling.

No joke. There’s nothing much to see there anyways. The only reason to watch it (and the reason I’ve recommended it to fans of weird films) is to see Cosby wear a crazy superhero outfit while riding an ostrich. And now that we know he’s a monster, that’s no fun either.
