1: Anyone who does require some help on the technical side of things re the Despecialized Editions please read through the Index below, as well as the more generic threads in the ‘How-To’s and Technical Discussions’ section, to see if others here have previously experienced the same or similar issues - before making a new thread asking for assistance.

Technical and assistance threads for the Despecialized Editions remain untouched and scattered throughout the first 25 pages of the ‘How-To’s and Technical Discussions’ section.
 

2: Many answers to questions can also be found in the three main ‘Despecialized Edition’ threads - found in the ‘Star Wars Preservation’ section of the site. There is also a useful Despecialized Edition: Quality Control Thread - Report Issues Here thread - along with some other general Despecialized threads from that section also indexed below.
 

3: The ‘Where are the Despecialized Editions? And how do I download them?’ Mega-Merge section is a list of the 40 or so individual threads made on the site over the years - all asking the same two things - as the title suggests.

All of the posts contained in this section of the thread are discussion posts from every one of those various ‘Where are they? How Do I get them?’ threads; all merged into this one centralised place - for ease of use and information - as well as ‘de-cluttering’ the site of all these many repeated / similar threads.

If anyone is wondering where the other many, many threads also about asking ‘how to get Despecialized’ are… they are in the ‘Trash’ section of the site. Much of which contain insults, profanities and self-entitlement - along with some imaginative and highly descriptive abuse too. It also features many people who didn’t bother / were too lazy (or important) to read the first post by Harmy in any of his three main Despecialized threads - and instead simply made yet more new threads asking about how to get them.

I was watching unboxings for the XXX’s distributed copies of the Despecialized Editions but after some research, I’ve deemed them too controversial to consider.
I want blu ray copies of the Despecialized Editions, however, but heard it’s way more expensive.

What resources do you recommend for making my own blu ray copy of the Despecialized Editions myself?

EDIT: Please don’t say the Harmy quote, I know what he said about distrubution or selling of movies and I’ve read it a million times. Hope I don’t sound too rude. Thank you!

i own all official dvds and blu rays release of the classical star wars trilogy :
-the first release dvd package from 2006 if i well remember
-the second release whre as bonus disc there was the movies with the original effects
-the blu ray package release of 2011
-the steelbook release of the first 3 movies

i saw in ebay someone selling these despecialized edition ( with no extra ) and i am tempted to buy these ones .
i wanted to ask if someone can burn for me and send to me . i would pay for this service .
i am not able to download these movies but i really would like to get these despecialized edition .

this is my asking .

I am having problems downloading Harmy’s original trilogy MKVs.
I get to about 96% using FreeRapid Downloader (IV part 1), then I get an error message and the download stops.
I can’t afford to keep trying and getting errors, as it eats up all my download allocation (I’m currently at 80% of my limit).

Any actual difference in quality between these two methods? (I assume I would use the original soundtrack in all cases).

I need your help. I have acquired the Star Wars Despecialized editions online. I have the rar files for all 3 including the Grindhouse Version of Ep.6. I converted them to mkv files. and it seems I’m at a stand still.

My question is; what is the best program, the best way, to convert them to a file that will eventually be burned on a Blu-ray disc? Which file type is best? What converter will get me the best resolution/image? Do they cost money or are they free?

I’m not too technical savvy, but truly any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

But I can’t download them on my software and I won’t buy from scumbag sellers making money off Harmy’s work and hurting the project. There are reasons that it’s not just posted to stream on the front page of this site. Although Disney and Lucasfilm have been very lenient with Star Wars copyright issues in general, there is of course a point where the ease of accessibility would be too much and generate the wrong kind of attention, and possibly the wrong kind of relationship between fan editors/preservers and the powers that be. If you uploaded the entire DeEd 2.5 film to youtube, you would see how quickly it would be removed.

It’s good to be skeptical of what software you run on your PC. Too far in the other direction and you’ll end up like one of these people: https://blog.avast.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/browsercleanup.png

However, downloading things through unofficial means is simply about using your brain on a case by case basis (a practice that should be recommended in every aspect of life). The word torrent scares a lot of people, because they probably heard stories of a friend who tried to torrent something ridiculous like Justin.Bieber.FULL.ALBUM.MP3.rar.zip.EXE and had a bad experience. The mechanism by which you get the file is not going to dictate whether or not it is a safe experience. A mega or rapidgator or whatever link is no safer than a torrent. And a major (i.e., not some fly-by-night site) torrent site will generally have a comment section where people will point out quite explicitly if there is a virus or trojan. If you are downloading movie files, obviously do not proceed with a torrent that is full of other types of files (executables, scripts, etc). Things are not nearly as shady if you are not trying to download software.

In short, it’s easy to obtain in the ways that thousands of others have managed.

Ok, so the download utility software is safe and the
myspleen site is safe as well. There is something about downloading utility software with decryption ability from Germany and a torrent site asking for login information that is a bit un-nerving. So, I try to be cautious.

Nothing wrong with being cautious.

You’ll actually find that torrent sites that require login information are far, far safer as far as copyright takedown notices go. They target people who pirate new MPAA and RIAA releases, and occasionally take down the extremely massive private ones, as they did with Oink about a decade ago.

As far as ‘download utility’ I assume you mean the torrent client software? There are dozens, if not hundreds of those, and that is indeed an area to pay attention to. As with any freeware app, the longer it’s around, the more likely the authors will sell out and begin bundling it with other useless garbage and adware. qbtorrent is clean and easy to use.

Not sure what the decryption ability function or corresponding concern is about.

I got a download working. When I was looking at the process, all I saw was a wild goose chase wit lots of software to install and more possibilities for spyware/malware.

I am glad somebody or group has tried to preserve the original film. I think what Mr. Lucas really wants is a remake. Anyway, hope to see the film(s) soon.

So much debate over those original colors. Some insist her boobs are supposed to be more on the red side, but given the filmstock used, in the lighting of that motel, would produce a slightly more peachy colour to said breasts.
