In the filing, Disney suggests that Lucasfilm has generated nearly $12 billion in value to the company.

For Marvel, which it bought in 2009 for $4 billion, Disney cites all four Avengers movies and the Avengers Campus Marvel Cinematic Universe–themed areas that opened at Disney’s California Adventure and Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris. The four blockbuster movies occupy four of the top 15 slots on the list of top lifetime box office grosses.

Marvel has generated some $13.2 billion in value to Disney, per the presentation.

The 2.9X and 3.3X ROI figures are pulled from company data and reflect the ratio between revenue and investment on titles released following the company’s acquisition of the Marvel and Star Wars intellectual property, the company notes. Revenue reflects aggregate 10-year revenue streams, both generated and expected, directly associated with the releases (including theatrical, home entertainment, pay and free television and consumer products).

Disney also notes this does not include derivative revenue streams, such as park attractions, nor does it include originals associated with those franchises or pre-established franchise consumer products revenue. By investment, the figure reflects film production costs, print and advertising associated with theatrical releases. It does not include additional distribution costs or overhead.’

'The presentation sits alongside a video released this week where Disney goes for the jugular in its attacks on Peltz as he and former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo seek to revamp the company by gaining seats on its board. Styled like a political attack ad, the video asserts that if the two succeed, Disney “could suffer the same fate as other great companies that Peltz has previously infiltrated, such as GE and Dupont.

“Nelson Peltz has a long history of attacking companies to the ultimate detriment of shareholder value,” the narrator of the three-minute video states. As is reflected in the presentation, the video emphasized the fact that Peltz has no experience running a global media company.

In a recent letter to Disney shareholders, Peltz’s Trian Fund Management says that the company can’t afford another “boom or bust sequel” to three years of negative performance in the stock market. Noting that company stock is up in 2024’s first quarter, the hedge fund’s letter casts doubt on Disney’s ability to deliver or sustain momentum from the announcements made on its strategic plan while patting Peltz’s back for the war he’s waging on Disney.’

Agree. I was cautiously optimistic about this because Russian Doll was wonderfully inventive. But the trailer looks generic Disney+ show. The lighting & cinematography in several shots is bland.

Maybe it’s the way the trailer has been put together. But it’s dampened my expectations.

The same here. The trailer left me a little underwhelmed, though I hope that is just the trailer itself. We’ve been told that there a lot of on location shooting and not much Volume work, but that trailer didn’t showcase that, or look different to shows like Kenobi, Ahsoka, Book of Boba Fett and seasons 2 & 3 of The Mandalorian.

I hope we get another more in-depth trailer soon.

The first few dry days of the year, so I can finally get the first bits of gardening done and out of the way. Basically, I’m happy there is some good weather at last, so can get shit done.

Right after last month’s well-regarded remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games, the company has put out the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, an uprezzed repackage of the original, beloved Battlefront games. It came out today and, well, oh dear.

With over a thousand Steam user reviews already in, the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has spiralled down to a “Mostly Negative” overall rating, as fans complain of bugs, crashes, server issues, and a borderline-unplayable multiplayer mode.

“Probably one of the worst launches of all time,” writes Steam user Dinkleberg, “none of us can get in a game and there are only 3 servers.” Similar complaints appear endlessly up and down the game’s Steam review page, which is currently a sea of red, and many users are imploring each other not to lose their two-hour refund window. “Don’t waste your two-hour refund window till confirmation of fix,” writes a user named Nightnight, “Currently, game is totally unplayable. Even if you manage to get into a server, players cannot spawn.”

The state of the games’ servers at launch are a frequent point of complaint. The original Battlefront games were adored for their multiplayer, but numerous players around the internet report that the Classic Collection launched with a sum total of three dedicated servers—64 players each—to serve almost 10,000 concurrent players. Players can host their own servers, which should help, but some users report that feature isn’t working properly for them either.’
 

Certainly not a good experience for anyone laying out anything like $35 for this. How hard can it be to make Star Wars gaming a good experience with lots of cool fun games to play, once again?

In a statement, his agent said: "We are very sad to confirm the passing of our friend and client Michael Culver. A career spanning over 50 years with notable roles in Sherlock Holmes, A Passage to India, Secret Army and of course one of the most memorable death scenes in the Star Wars franchise.

"Michael largely gave up acting in the early 2000’s to concentrate his efforts into his political activism. It’s been an honor to have represented Michael for for the last decade and to have taken him to some of the best Star Wars events in the UK and Europe. A real highlight was taking Michael to Celebration in Chicago in 2019. He was lost for words when he saw his queue line with nearly 200 people waiting to see him.

“We worked with Michael just 3 weeks ago at his last home signing with our friends at Elite Signatures. Michael died on Tuesday 27th February at the age of 85. We miss him.”

'A woman in Arizona was arrested and charged with stalking after allegedly sending tens of thousands of texts to a man she met online and breaking into his home.

Jacqueline Ades allegedly sent a man 65,000 texts over the course of several months, sometimes up to 500 texts per day, according to court documents obtained by local station ABC 15.

Ades, 31, and the man, whose name has not been publicly released, met through an online dating website and went on one date in 2017, ABC 15 reported. The stalking and harassing began after that encounter, according to ABC 15.

The Paradise Valley Police Department reported that they had received four calls about Ades either going to the man’s house or his place of business between July 2017 and this month.

The most extreme instance came this past April when the man called police saying he was out of the country but could see that she had entered his home via surveillance video.

“When officers arrived, they found Ades in the residence taking a bath,” the police news release states.

On that occasion, a butcher knife was found in the front seat of her car, ABC 15 reported.

Ades was taken into custody after that instance and charged with felony trespass to a residence, according to police.

After being released, she reportedly sent threatening texts “indicating that harm may come” to the man, police said.

Some of the texts reportedly stated that she wanted to wear his body parts and bathe in his blood, ABC 15 reported.

“Don’t ever try to leave me … I’ll kill you … I don’t wanna be a murderer,” she wrote in another, according to the station.

The most recent time that police responded to a call about her from a local business on May 4, when police were told that she was “acting irrationally and claiming to be the wife of the owner,” police said.

When confronted by police by the business, which is owned by the man she had been texting and whose home she trespassed, she told police that “she was married to the owner.”

She was taken into custody on May 8 and faces felony charges of stalking and threatening and intimidating, as well as a misdemeanor count of harassment.

She was booked into the local jail based on a failure to appear warrant that was out for her because she missed her court date for the April trespassing charge.

She has no lawyer listed in court documents.

ABC 15 cited court paperwork saying that Ades allegedly admitted that her statements were “crazy” and told police that she didn’t intend to hurt the man.’

So I just watched the first 3 Bad Batch season 3 episodes.

But the Bad Batch is often written like an actual story with actual thought put into plot mechanics. There’s often proper set ups and pay-offs, characters know their limitations, and thought is often put into the logistics of the action scenes.

Scary how even basic fundamental aspects of storytelling can lift a series, get the viewer interested and engaged. This has been something I think has improved a lot on Bad Batch, as Filoni’s involvement has diminished (as he concentrates on live action content) and Jennifer Corbett, Matt Michnovetz and Brad Rau have come to the fore.

I won’t really spoil anything, but there’s an episode where a character has to escape from an Imperial facility. Sounds really cliché, right? We’ve seen this 1,000 times. I’m sure they just easily bonk some Stormtroopers on the head and walk out the front door, right? Well, no. In fact, a lot of time is spent setting up how well guarded and secure this facility is. They spend an entire episode just showing daily life in the facility. It really does seem pretty impossible to escape - it’s portrayed as a realistically secure facility with sentries, bio-scans and force fields limiting access to different areas of the facility. When the escape finally happens, the protagonists exploit a feature of the facility that was set up well beforehand and actually makes sense, and they also have help from someone with higher security clearance. It’s like the writers actually thought hard about this, and tried to come up with a way for the protagonists to escape without necessarily making Imperial security look completely ridiculous. (They should have just put on a trench-coat and a fake mustache and waltzed out the front door, like in the Kenobi show.)

I mean, the show isn’t even that good. It’s like a 6.5 out of 10, mostly. It’s certainly no Andor. It still suffers a bit from pointless filler episodes. But I’m just pleasantly surprised to see actual competent writing in Star Wars these days.

I’ll be back for more of this season. It was a solid start to the season, good set up, and thankfully this:

no bringing back Tech from the end of last season. I really hope more characters in Star Wars stay dead when killed off.

I think it’ll be interesting to see a “must watch episodes guide” to this series after it ends; without the filler and aimless episodes in season 1 and early season 2. Or a strong stripped-down fan edit of the series.

Has the phantom menace(4k99) already been released yet? If so,i am so excited about it.

I think even I could build those out of previous lego sets and pieces, not not splash out that sort of cash they are asking for miniatures. They look nice, but there’s not a lot of bang for buck here.

There are probably even "how to build these’ or MOC videos on YouTube or lego brick sites for this kind of thing out of spare or regular lego? Or even buy 4 or 5 pieces from the MGS series of ships for just one of those lego sets.

Although I’m sure the 25th anniversary pieces will sell very well, and may even be an investment of sorts?

What did you think the Jedi Purge would be like before the Prequels were released?

Did you think the Purge would be set 17 years after the end of the Clone Wars, like it was originally stated and planned?

Did the Jedi Purge scenes in ROTS resonate with you, or were you expecting more, and anticipating something different?

Were you expecting to the see The Jedi Purge over a longer period of time in the Prequel films, or maybe spanning across a couple of the PT movies (instead of mainly just seeing Order 66 less than an hour before the end of Revenge Of The Sith)?

Did you think fallen or captured Jedi would turn on their former brothers & sisters, working for the Empire and hunting down and killing other Jedi (as happened with the Inquisitors)? Or that it would be just Vader plus an elite squad of stormtroopers?

Have there been too many Jedi shown to have survived past Order 66, and the following Jedi Purge (in either canon or legends)?

Just how did everyone in the galaxy seemingly forget or be unaware of the Jedi (and the Force), the very people who ended up leading the Republic military forces in the devastating Clone Wars, just circa 20 years before events in the Original Trilogy?

For example, Han Solo, well travelled smuggler from Corellia, a place where Jedi had their own temple, with a large group of Jedi living there, has seemingly never heard of them, or the Force:

^ ignoring the retconned issue of Han’s best friend Chewbacca having met and fought alongside Yoda during the Clone Wars, in ROTS. Or that the Inquisitors and other Imperial forces were openly and publicly on the lookout and hunting the Jedi (even issuing “wanted” posters, threatening the public for information on the Jedi, and even overtly maiming and killing civilians in public places for it?).

Or that there appears to be many Jedi surviving Order 66 & The Jedi Purge, despite what Yoda explicitly stated to Luke in ROTJ:

Would you have preferred the Jedi Purge to have been done differently to what we got onscreen in the Prequels?

Do you mean the whole 2002-2007 Clone Wars MMP, or just the 2003 animated series?

I agree with Superweapon VII, Ventress was far more interesting in the 2003 Clone Wars.

As was Grievous, a far more menacing and awesome protagonist too.

Durge is a much underrated villain, but am also glad he didn’t appear in the 2008 series. The chances are they’d have screwed it up.

The 2003 series is the better instalment for me. With the characters in there being closer to their PT counterparts Some of the 2008 characters differ too much from the PT films, to the point they appear to be different people at times. Plus, the 2003 series is LOT of fun to watch, even 20 years later.

2003 Clone Wars still has that ‘Jedi are similar Arthurian Knights’ vibe to me.

Especially the pockets of other Jedi we saw in the series, like on Hypori. RIP Sir Sha’a Gi & co.
