If the Star Wars prequels were never made, which actor you would have imagined as the Pre-Prequels Anakin Skywalker?
Time

As the Prequels are never made, and the OP refers to the pre-PT era, so… according to Lucas and Lucasfilm with the Clone Wars ending in 35BBY, Anakin being born in 55BBY, and Anakin becoming Darth Vader in 18BBY:

Thinking aloud it’d have to be someone capable of playing Anakin across the 20-35 year old age range, maybe a little more on the older age scale if the films are showing early events of the Jedi Purge, so 20-40-ish.

Eddie Redmayne for me. Has a Mark Hamill-esque quality to some of his acting too, and has what would be needed to play Anakin/Vader (and similar features to Mark).

As the Prequels were never made, and I guess the Sequels were also never made, then Adam Driver would have all the qualities needed for a good Anakin (plus he’s basically already played a version of ‘Anakin in reverse’ in the ST films).

Heath Ledger would have made a good Anakin years ago. RIP.

I’d opt for someone like a younger Adrian Paul to have played Anakin back then. Some who had that believable presence that they could be the OT Vader embodied by David Prowse and JEJ’s voice. Someone with the physique, acting chops, and has that dark brooding / dual menace about him. For me Hayden never had that, I never believed the guy could be OT Vader (that’s not necessarily Hayden’s fault; as that is more on the casting, writing and direction).

Good call. Highlander fan?

Some more thoughts about Yoda and his relationship with the Rebellion:

Overthinking this a bit, I guess I have to agree that it makes very little sense that Yoda isn’t more actively involved with the Rebellion. Sure, he’s not a warrior like he was in the Prequels - but so what? He’s a Jedi with the ability to see the future (at least partially). He could be an invaluable asset for Rebel military intelligence. They could ask him to use the Force to ascertain the probability that some mission will succeed or fail, or use the Force to predict what the Imperials will do in certain situations. The ability to see the future (even if it’s not 100% reliable) would be invaluable in terms of military strategy and intelligence gathering.

But this is supposed to be a fantasy and Yoda is an archetype: he’s the wise master that lives in a remote location and will semi-reluctantly train those who are willing to learn.

That is an interesting take and thought exercise ^, although isn’t that the fault of the Prequels, more than a dislike of the OT, in not giving us (or Yoda) a valid reason for him to be hiding in isolation on Dagobah all that time?

Having Yoda immediately exile himself to Dagobah after his brief fight ending in a draw against the Emperor, with no attempt at rescuing or helping other surviving Jedi, or even trying to thwart the Empire (in effect letting the Sith rule the galaxy for 20 years plus, before reluctantly training Luke for a short time), does certainly bring up some issues!

^ - I also find these thought exercises invading my mind and time even after all these years! Must be a holdover from all the time spent piecing information and guessing how it the story could play out in the Prequel stories (before the Prequels were ever released).

A thread for the <strong>Lego Star Wars:</strong> films, specials, series, shorts, and curiosities...
Time

Sorry for the necro bump, this appears to be the most relevant thread for this (please delete if not):

Get Ready for Darth Jar Jar, TIE-Wings, and More in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy - at StarWars.com (airs on Sept 13)

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy | Teaser Trailer | Disney+ - 1 minute official YouTube video.

It just looks fun and engaging, a little different. Something Star Wars that I’m actually looking forward to watching.

<strong>Skeleton Crew</strong> (live action series) - a general discussion thread
Time

‘As Star Wars next Disney+ series, The Acolyte, inches closer to release, another upcoming show set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away just got an exciting new update. Director Jon Watts revealed during an interview at CCXP that Skeleton Crew will be released on Disney+ around Christmas.’

Going on the post above it may not be this Christmas!

If there is season 2 of this will it become a teen drama, as all the kids will have grown up by then? 😉

General Star Wars <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> Thread

Today* marks the 10th anniversary of the old EU being decanonized.

*Well, for me–it’s probably yesterday for where a lot of you guys live

Time flies! ScreenRant ran a couple of articles on this yesterday (or today, maybe? lol):

10 Years Ago Today, Star Wars Made The Biggest Continuity Change In Its 47-Year History: Canon, EU, & Legends Explained

Star Wars’ “Legends” Rebrand Was A Mistake - But We Know What Way Would Have Worked

Canon, or rather any consistency across the stories and world building since 2014, stopped becoming a thing long ago. I am a broken record on this, but how can fans have any meaningful investment and immersion in the Star Wars universe when that consistency, worldbuilding, integrated storytelling, or canon, is contradicted or retconned in later stories? The quotes from Lucasfilm people in the announcements at the time are almost laughable considering what has happened since:

An Index & Help Thread for _The Expanded Universe:

Lucasfilm clarifies the future of the EU (a 2014 thread; re the 25th April Lucasfilm announcement about the EU; Legends & Canon)

The Star Wars Expanded Universe: Past, Present, & Future (2014 official Star Wars ‘Legends/Canon’ announcement video)

^ “We now have a story department that so that there truly can be one consistent narrative - and that’s always been the dream. I think the idea of aligning the content is really fantastic and exciting opportunity that no other fictional universe could even support. We’re going to be able to bring fans a unified vision in a way that we’ve never done before. And I think it’s a also sacred trust to be invited to be telling stories inside this universe because it’s so precious to people, and I understand because it’s precious to me.” - Lucasfilm VIPs.

and:

^ “It feels real when everything is in line. And I think that is the challenge for all of us going forward with Star Wars. How are we responsible with what was? And how do we still move forward even if things become very different? I think the EU will be a legacy that is mined forever.” - Dave Filoni.

Seriously amazing index, but why do some of the threads have images for them, and other don’t?

I guess that oojason wanted to highlight those specific projects because they were done by people on here, or maybe they were projects that were often asked about? If you send him a PM asking about it you’ll get an answer for sure, he is very helpful like that.

Approaching Star Wars canon
Time

Talking about the state of Star Wars world-building’ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvaNj6r6h9g

^ a 3 hour 10 minute streamed chat video from Sheev Talks, with @thejollychap and @TheOdrinSearchParty

It also contains some views often posted on here, along with some alternative views on the worldbuilding and consistency of storytelling and canon in Star Wars; especially in the Disney-owned era. The video also covers the topic of fans’ investment and immersion in the Star Wars universe being challenged and taken for granted when that consistency of worldbuilding, storytelling, or canon, is contradicted or retconned in later stories.

The video is 3+ hours long, though I break these type of ‘deep dive’ takes down into 30 minute long ‘podcast’ segments, when going for a walk, run or just tinkering around, and it doesn’t feel that long when doing it this way. Plus, I don’t think I could sit down and listen to videos lasting this long in just one sitting.

<strong>Republic Commando</strong> | Lucasfilm's 2004-2009 EU multimedia project | lore retcon #2,378
Time

I was thinking about Republic Commando last night. What’d I’d give to see a Tony Gilroy-level series on this old lore (before 2008 TCW lore and the inhibitor chips retcon); with the focus on the moral grey and complexities of the Jedi leading a slave Clone Army into war. That it would actually be the stern Mandalorian trainers of the clone commandos who would solely be the ones to plan and provide a future, homes, and community for the clones after the war had ended. What an intriguing, layered and elaborate mosaic that would be. Just wishful fan-think, of course.

A fair assessment (and a wish for more similar games and content):

Somebody deserves credit for making a gritty, Jedi-free Star Wars game without any fruity Force powers or lightsabers.

^ Some 20 years on and this still holds up and resonates. Whether for games, novels & comics, and TV & film in Star Wars.

I find myself thinking about the Galaxy Far Far Away much more than it deserves. Every day the list of things I like about Star Wars grows shorter, while the things I don’t grows longer. To me, the Republic Commando game and novels, along with the wider 2002-2007 Clone Wars MMP you mention, were amongst the best things to come out of the whole Prequel era shitshow, and the fallout from it since.

Even the thought of a ‘Rebel Commando’ (or OT-era) FPS game, as was briefly planned for a sequel option, is one I’d still love to see happen. Some 30 years on from Dark Forces the game, and we’re still waiting?

And yes, I think you’re onto something with the Dark Theme vs Light Theme. It is easier reading the longer posts or threads on here in the Dark Theme, somehow!

I’m making my way through this awesome thread and it is bring back some good memories from one of the better series releases of that Prequel era (books and the game). I’m also quite tempted to play the game again, but will have to choose whether to go for original PC version or the new re-issues on the Switch.

Thanks SoBS!

'Star Wars: <strong>The High Republic</strong>' era publishing project (was aka 'Project Luminous')
Time

While I hope The Acolyte does well and adds something of value to the GFFA, I’d also love to see other series based on The High Republic era as well. Whether another live action series, or animation; something like Visions or Tales Of Jedi, or its own dedicated series.

The final part, Phase III, of the publishing project concludes in Spring 2025, so that would be welcome starting point to choose a new THR series on. Or maybe even a news fresh and stylistically different story set in THR era.

For any THR readers on here, is there anything you’d like to see onscreen; characters or stories, events or side quests?
