Anakin's fall - did it really need three films or could it have been done in one?

Forgive me if this is an old question, but how many of you feel that the transformation from Anakin to Vader could have been handled in one film as opposed to being dragged out across three?
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Actually, I think it was handled so brilliantly in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi that I don't really see the need for even one film. However, they could have definitely just done it in two films. It would have been a bit much to introduce a character and have him fall to the darkside in just one film.

IMO, I think three is the right amount. The idea was solid turning him from a boy to a teen to a young adult who turns to the dark side. The execution just sucked when it came down to the character (too corny in Ep. 1, too whiny/angst ridden in Ep. 2). But I still view the OT and PT as separate so far, which I guess can help me enjoy some aspects of Ep. 1 and 2. Hopefully 3 will be one of the PTs I can attach in my mind to the OT as a 4 part movie. We'll see.

Ditto.

IMHO, it would have made more sense to divide the trilogy like this:
(1) Anakin's youth (from boy to teen)
(2) The Clone Wars (showing how Emperor Palpatine rose to power and Anakin's roll in the battles)
(3) The Fall of Anakin & end of the wars

Instead, we got a part 2 that was basically just filler, and a waste of time. Part 2 should have been integrated into Part 1.

I think three is good...as there is more leading up to the OT than just Anakin's fall...the rise of the Emperor...etc.

However...I do think the first two could have been a lot better.

Given how bad the PT has SUCKED so far, GL needs the third film to try to redeem himself.

Introducing a young adult Anakin in Episode I and giving him flashbacks to his youth probably would have gotten the point across just fine that, yes Darth Vader was once a kid - just as Hitler and all other tyrants were once little kids - but George Lucas can't seem to think outside the box of his usual technique, following all too rigidly a certain storytelling structure that would work fine if the prequels were actually good, which they are not.

That's an excellent idea, HS vs IJ. However, I can forgive having Anakin as a child in Ep 1. Where they lost me was Ep II, which was basically a waste when it comes to Anakin's storyline (as well a waste when it comes to almost everything else). Just my opinion, but instead of basically having the 'love story' be one movie (Ep II) and his fall be the other (Ep III) they should have combined the two but had them both develope simultaneously over the course of both movies.

Just one idea, but I would have had Anakin and Padme familiar with one another right from the beginning of Ep II. Anakin would be Padme's bodyguard, and they would have a professional relationship in front of people, but would flirt/kiss when nobody was around.
