Interesting idea; I guess we could remove the dagger as (necessarily) the murder weapon of her parents. It would add focus on communicating that the dagger is whispering to her to be used to find the Wayfinder, but it would no longer set up the reveal about her parents tucking her away and being killed. But it’s probably worth it.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I don’t think you necessarily have to not make the dagger the weapon that killed her parents, we would just be making it unimportant that Ochi killed her parents with the dagger, which it wasn’t to begin with. The connection between Ochi and her parents is already set up by her recognizing Ochi’s ship from the day her parents left. Her hearing her mother’s screams from the blade doesn’t really contribute a lot to that revelation.

Not making the dagger the murder weapon, or Ochi the murderer, opens up a can of worms that could have drastic changes to the story. On the other hand, I’m all for drastic changes when it comes to this movie…

Now that Disney has officially released the full deleted scenes for TROS, do we have plans to integrate the Eye of Webbish Bog into the Mustafar sequence?

Long have we waited…

Might be neat if evil vampire Rey had the Sith eyes.

Edit: Something like this mockup; or maybe subtler. Or even more vampiric.

Then again, making vision Rey even more obviously evil just sort of reinforces the general idea that Rey isn’t actually tempted towards the dark side at all. It’d have been more compelling, in my opinion, if there was something in that “cave” that actually appealed to her in some way. Alas.

Edit 2:
EBSynth test. Unfortunately it squishes the pupils around so I’d have to do those manually, I think. Still, plausible if desired.

That test footage is so incredibly unnerving and I think it’s great.

100% down with this idea. Looks great was testing this out in Ebsynth recently for another project; this originating from the Prequels is another great way to tie the Sith stuff together.

Hmm, personally, I think this might be a little much. BUT! I think it would work if her eyes only change for that brief moment when she goes all Bilbo/Gollum/shark on herself. Kind of like how Anakin’s eyes only turn when he’s being super-duper evil, but are normal the rest of the time (e.g. when he’s choking chatting with Padmé). I agree with your second-thought that it strips the nuance from her temptation; she’s just very obviously an evil monster now.

Plus, if it’s only a brief flash when she “submits” to the dagger, and only a brief flash later on, that would reinforce the two points, and help to ground them a little more, I think. Adds a bit of weight, like, “Oh sh-t, she’s actually falling to the Dark Side!” (Rather than, “I guess she’s already fallen.”)

I also like the idea that the eyes only go Sithy when she shows her shark teeth. Would save work for you to do and makes sense.

What about the dark Rey in her new vision at the beginning of the movie? In one shot she has normal eyes, and in the next they are milky.

I like the idea of the Sith eyes, but only have it when she does the Hissy thing. I feel like having it the whole time is a bit too much.

Also … the idea if the “real” Rey gets a super subtle yellow eye whenever she “kind of” commits to anything dark side would be interesting.

Also there is some work about the dagger? Changing a bit of C3P0’s dialogue? I am so down on that if it can be accomplished. Oh my goodness. What’s the plan on it?

That could be a really neat addition.

Right now, RogueLeader and I are figuring out a new dagger inscription for Sith-3PO to say, then I’ll have a go at recording it, and see how it goes.

Yes … please … anything to help give a different purpose completely for the dagger to remove any last bit of McGuffin’ness of it. Please proceed!

If this is not part of the idea … but almost like a “prophesy” idea … or Sith one … could be used for the idea? The Jedi had theirs … which from the sequels did not really pan out (Made a big deal about the force being balanced, finally, … and then … whoops, just kidding! Everything is back to the way it was!) the Sith one can be something about like the Heir/(something) will take the throne from the ashes of the Emperor who ruled the galaxy … something something.

Of course you guys are working it out and the key will be the crew needing to go to endor. If that can be accomplished and the dagger’s sith whispers are really apparent or whatever to “guide” Rey. It. Would. Be. Amazing.

It would be kind of funny both the Jedi and the Sith had apparent prophesies that didn’t quite pan out.

It’s canon that the Sith had a prophecy, except it was about the dyad. So both organizations did have a prophecy that turned out to not be in their favor.

Where in the movie does it tell us that?

😉 You know me, you can’t use resources outside of the movie to explain stuff! 😄

You were suggesting the implementation of some sort of prophecy, so I simply suggested one that is currently already canon, even if it doesn’t appear in the film. Fairly certain it’s in the novelization.

So, following your outline… “two that are one will take the throne from the ashes of the Emperor who ruled the galaxy”.

Ah, it’s in the book? Lol, of course! hahaha. (You know me and my view on such things. 😄)

But yeah, if it helps with the dagger and trying to make it more ancient and prophecy like … that would be neat … but yeah, i don’t really care too much how it is done, but that it can be done and makes the connection to going to endor. Man … I will be jumping up and down with joy.

I like the word play of what I suggested. The two won’t take the throne for themselves, but they instead take the throne away from him.

That would be funny, again, since both Force Sides have prophecies that didn’t pan out.

However, for the book “canon” seems a bit wonky since Palpatine was wanting to have Rey killed by Kylo/Orchi … so was Palps working “against” the prophecy or something? It is a bit murky at best. (I kinda ask this but not really care since I don’t care what outside sources say on things, only in the movie counts to me. Personally. 😃)

I do like in Hal’s version trying to really leave Palp’s motivation/decision making up in the air and can be interpreted by the listener however.

Whenever Rey does Dark Side stuff? So…the lightning moment. And some of the vision stuff.

Great job establishing an internal conflict, Chris Terrio!

We’re trying to implement some of RogueLeader’s new ideas, which were detailed here: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-The-Rise-Of-Skywalker-Redux-Ideas-thread/id/71460/page/161#1421215

Basically, rather than having a literal map with literal coordinates, Rey will have to submit herself to the Dark Side to a degree. Then, the Dagger will present her with a vision of wherever the Wayfinder happens to be located (i.e. presently, Endor). So, it’s not really a “prophecy”; but just trying to work in more elements of Rey’s darkness, and also making the Dagger-map feel less stupid. (I still don’t know who carved the damn thing. Was it Ochi? He always did want to be an artist.)

Agreed. I could explain to you how Palpatine’s decisions in the novel make sense, but it’s way too complicated. There’s just too many steps and flip-flopping. That’s why I like Hal’s simplification of it all.

Thanks for that clarification and pointing to that post. I like those ideas. A lot. RogueLeader does it again with his ideas!

Also, having the Dagger be more of a “compass” of sorts works well, especially the point he made about why Rey goes back for the Dagger. Her response of “a feeling” adds more to that rational. I mean, the original cut of the movies has her go retrieve the dagger because of “a feeling” even though they got the information they needed about the wayfinder. So this concept gives it more purpose of needing the dagger due to it having dark side Forceness to it without having a goofy convoluted origin and McGuffin to a McGuffin aspect of it (Really, shaped and hand a ‘pointer’. Really?!). I. Like. It.
