rewatched the final girls
Which version did you see, mate? (there seems to be 3/4 films in recent years - 10 or so 😉 with the same title).
Any good? (or fun?)
Would it be possible to still request this link? Would love to watch one of my favorite Christmas movies just in time for Christmas. Please and thank you
Why not simply send a PM to Kreep as he requested anyone interested in acquiring his project does in the OP of the htread?:-

Good luck with it, mate - I hope you find what you’re looking for. 👍
How do I PM you for a link? I have desperately wanted an HD Reconstruction of the 97 editions for so long. Partially for nostalgia, and partially so I can blend it with the original trilogy in my own semi-specialized cut.
You may wish to read the last page or so of this thread, or even the posts directly above yours on this page, on how to do that (or to acquire projects in general on here). Good luck with it, mate. 👍

2011 blu ray (not a joke)…
Uh, Han, you okay there, buddy? I’ve had sunburn before too, it ain’t fun…
😃 👍
OK, I’ll jump in here and comment. I’ve been casually following this for probably about a month or so but wanna ask some questions to people that might know more than me. How are we certain that this will see any type of release when the scans were supposedly done back in 2022?

Personally, I’m more inclined to believe Marcia Lucas here. It really wouldn’t make sense to invent the whole “from a certain point of view” retcon if Vader was always supposed to be Luke’s father.
Same here - and pleasing they were in her own words too.
Plus, it has been refreshing and welcome experience listening to her as she has been willing to do a little more media in recent years - especially given so many fans run her down, twist her words, get angry and abusive, at mere mention of her contributions to Star Wars (and Empire, and Jedi) - even for what she stated in Icons Uncovered…
There are a few more intriguing bits and piece on (and from) Marcia here for anyone interested:-
and…
Section ‘3 C’ of ❕ An Index + ‘Info & Help’ Thread for… Original Trilogy Discussion ❕ also has a ‘mini section’ of info posts and content on Marcia and her contributions.
On the subject of the retcon that is ‘Vader is Luke father’ - something that was not a planned thing by George (a retcon that didn’t occur until as per Lucasfilm: “Darth Vader wasn’t Luke’s father until the second draft of Empire Strikes Back in April 1978.”)… then Categories #5 - 8 of George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist… may be of interest; with a few quotes, facts, and info on the issue.
It also includes the 1976 story meeting for Splinter Of The Mind’s Eye between Charles Lippincott, Alan Dean Foster, and George Lucas…
…Their conversation was transcribed by J W Rinzler, author of the acclaimed “Making Of” books on the Star Wars films, and appeared in Star Wars Insider magazine. Among the surprises that result from their brainstorming is the fact that:
• Lucas didn’t think Vader was a strong villain
• Leia could run off with a Wookiee, and possibly be killed off, or at least get a gruesome pummeling
• Luke would be tougher and more worldly (they didn’t think they’d get Harrison Ford back)’
^ From ‘The Great Unmade? Star Wars: Splinter Of The Mind’s Eye’ by Cinetropolis. An Internet Archive back-up can be found here.
'FOSTER: The point is at the end of the picture, the impression I get-and I am still an outsider to the film-is that the princess is the princess and she doesn’t take anybody. It leaves Luke feeling disappointed because he was interested in her, but she is completely unattainable at the end of the picture. She’s just as divorced[from Luke and Han] as the other generals standing up there in the throne room. But Luke is not; Luke wants her. That’s the impression I get. When she’s standing up there hanging his medallion around him, she doesn’t try to kiss him or anything.
LUCAS: Well, another thing we could do is to go one step beyond the simple and move into the love story plot, where you have them kind of vying for each other. She is a spry little snappy kind of girl and he’s sort of liking her, and in the process of the movie, they fall in love and have a wonderful relationship and in the end she gets killed. it’s one of those tweaked ideas, but it’s one of those things that works. What I wanted to when we were shooting the other movie is have the princess run off with the Wookiee. But it sounds perverted.
LIPPINCOTT: I think that somebody else has got to be killed.
LUCAS: I wouldn’t mind killing her off.
The other thing we haven’t dealt with is Darth Vader. But Darth Vader, as we discovered in this picture, tends to be pushy; he’s not strong enough as the villain to hold the villain role. he doesn’t have the persona that you need. You really need a Cushing guy, a really slimy, ugly….
LIPPINCOTT: What if you unveiled him, unmasked him? Since he isn’t strong enough to hold up. Unmasked him and started building up a new villain who could continue into the next?
LUCAS: That’s an idea.
FOSTER: A Phantom Of The opera scene right there. People will be curious…
LUCAS: Well, we had an interesting idea, which we sort of liked but didn’t do it. Somebody thought we were going to take the hood off Vader and there was going to be Peter Cushing, this shrivelled old man inside this giant suit. A little of The Wizard Of Oz idea. The one thing about that though: Darth Vader is good as he is a real menace. It’s just good to have that guy who you love to hate there. So if you use Darth Vader, fine. Or, the bad guy is his agent on the planet. it’s the local governor, it’s the local whoever Vader is using to find the crystal or whatever he needs…’

An aside: It was not until the Third Draft Script that Vader survived at the end of the story. From Starkiller: The Jedi Bendu Script Site…
In the May 1973 Story Synopsis - there is no mention of a character named Vader at all, nor anyone similar to the character.
In the May 1974 Rough First Draft - the Vader character is a just a human - a tall, grim-looking General for the Empire, he is not a Jedi or a Sith, has no Force abilities, he does not wear a mask, and he dies at the end of the story.
In the July 1974 Revised First Draft - the Vader character is still basically written as above, and dies at the end of the story.
In the January 1975 Second Draft - the Vader character is now known as Lord Darth Vader, wears flowing black robes and a grotesque breath mask, is right hand to the Master Of The Sith, with force abilities, and… still dies at the end of the story.
It is only in the August 1975 Third Draft - Darth Vader wearing flowing black robes and grotesque breath mask, right hand of the Emperor, a seven-foot tall Dark Lord Of The Sith… where for the first time… Vader actually survives at the end of the story.
For completion: early January 1976 Fourth Draft, late January 1976 Fourth Draft (Public), & March 1976 Revised Fourth Draft.

It’s been a locked room for almost 20 years now, and the people who got locked in all those decades ago frequently don’t know how to act anymore, LOL. If they ever did, considering when it was that the doors got nailed shut.
Surely it is more like 10 years? Are we now that old? (Don’t answer that!)… 😉

^ Sadly, IMHO, it is becoming an all-to-familiar story on here in recent times as well.
Why is sandstorm still b&w? Because they don’t want to (or can’t) track down uncut negative and conform it to dailies edit?
I’m not sure mate - though this is all a ‘Work In Progress’ project. Some scenes and shots simply may have been uploaded on more of a stage-by-stage process before they are ‘final’? Maybe, hopefully, we’ll see uploads of more complete / final shots later. 👍
NEW SCREENSHOT COMPARISON - AND A NEW VIDEO CLIP - FROM STAR WARS…
For these comparisons: the folks over at blu-ray.com are complaining that the source of the 4k is not lossless. Whoever is making them, can you please use the original disc - if you’re not?
The folks (or rather the same few vocal naysayers) at blu-ray.com are once again incorrect - and way off the mark.
The source of the 4K UHD image screenshot comparisons are the official 4K UHD discs.
The actual reason is a recent (mid-October-ish) compression issue with the platform from which these images comparison shots are originally being shared on that was the problem. The platform understandably has size limits and quotas for what they could host / share… and since mid-October_(-ish)_ have compressed the images uploaded there since - which was unbeknownst to us - until we found out last night.
So when I saved the images from there and then reuploaded them to Imgur (as to not use the platform’s limited bandwidth or be traced back to source etc)… I was inadvertently saving compressed images. For unknowingly doing that I apologise.
However, this recent compression change would have affected all the screenshot comparisons images taken from there; for the ALI, the UHD, the 2011 blu ray, and the 4K77/80/83 images used - NOT just the UHD - which is the apparent focus of their attention.
So such recent claims from blu-ray.com as…
‘…we have been collectively misled to perceive that the UHD BR transfers as are far inferior than they truly are.’
‘The fact that the uploader(s) have not publicly acknowledged and corrected the record with these demonstrably inaccurate images nor clarified weeks ago these comparisons were wrong, raises a whole host of concerns and questions.’
and…
‘…and now the clearly fuzzed UHD caps blatantly putting the thumb on the scale in the leaks’ favour.’
‘…they have done a disservice to themselves and the SW community by uploading images from the official UHD BR transfers which are demonstrably inaccurate to the source and creates false disparity when comparing them to the ALI images.’
…are not only woefully incorrect - but are also without merit.
Much like many of the previously incorrect claims and assertions made on there (though latterly acknowledged as being false / mistaken)… they also form part of the reason why I personally choose to try and avoid such small minorities of vocal naysayers who are both quick to jump to conclusions and make accusatory remarks without even a cursory look at the wider picture (a bizarre ‘shoot first - ask questions later’ rinse n’ repeat approach).
Instead, they could have simply reached out on here with any queries or issues - instead they chose not to - and we are treated to yet more of the above. So, my apologies digitalfreaknyc, yet I hope you understand that is why I won’t be commenting on / replying to anything coming from there in the future. Life is just too short. Others can do as they wish, of course. 👍
A quality piece that, mate. Nicely laid out, too.
Well worth a 5 minute read for anyone interested on 35mm colour differences with more modern releases. 👍
The magazine, most recently produced by Titan Publishing Group, will cap its run with 237 issues in print.
www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-insider

'After more than 200 issues, Star Wars Insider will end its current run in 2026.
The official Star Wars magazine first launched under the Insider moniker in 1994, part of an evolution that began with the Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine.
But the earliest incarnation of the idea began in 1978 with the start of the Official Star Wars Fan Club. A newsletter in the membership kit was renamed Bantha Tracks after a contest in issue #2, and would mark its final edition in March of 1987 with issue #35 covering the new Star Tours ride.
The first glossy Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine debuted in the fall that same year, featuring C-3PO and R2-D2 on the cover with a cake decorated with 10 candles to mark the 10th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope as well as Lucasfilm’s expansion into new stories beyond the galaxy far, far away.
Growing interest in Star Wars just seven short years later spurred the new name, Star Wars Insider, which debuted with the widely coveted “premier issue” #23 in 1994. During its lifetime, the logo would be redesigned, the license would change hands, and many editors and writers would bring their love for Star Wars to those printed pages.
“Insider has been a big part of my Star Wars experience for a very long time, both as a fan and professionally,” editor Christopher Cooper tells StarWars.com. "It’s been an honor to explore the galaxy far, far away with our readers during my eight year tenure. But publishing has changed immeasurably since the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine, and we live in an increasingly digital age, which sadly means that this chapter in Star Wars Insider’s history is coming to an end.”
“I certainly share Christopher’s sentiments. Having served as editor-in-chief of Insider during the lead up to Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in 2004 and 2005, and then to edit the magazine for the past 9 years for Lucasfilm Publishing has been the greatest privilege of my life,” adds senior editor Brett Rector. “To say the magazine occupies a huge place in my heart is an understatement.”
Star Wars Insider issue #237 will be the magazine’s last with Titan. “As we fly off into the twin sunsets, Titan intends to go out in a blaze of glory,” Cooper adds.
The next issue, #235, a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will arrive on newsstands December 9, 2025. There will also be printings of the hardcover and trade paperback collections of short fiction, Star Wars: The High Republic Volume 3, a slipcase set of all three High Republic short story volumes, and a special edition celebrating the 10th anniversary of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story next year.
The final two issues of Star Wars Insider will be released in early 2026. Back issues will be available while supplies last.’
For me, this has notably dwindled in quality since 2001/02 - which is when it became full of Special Edition content and retconning official history and contradicting their own previous articles and content… together with a more ‘corporate’ / ‘run by the Empire’ feel to it. Certainly lacking in the fun tongue-in-cheek humour it once had at times. I’m a little surprised they kept the SW Insider magazine going for so long. The 40th anniversary edition was a pisstake / FU to many of us older / OOT fans.
I did enjoy The_Layman’s video on the news (and the cut of his jib): www.tiktok.com/@the_layman/video/7572321742014778655

Hi all, I thought you’d all find this interesting:
Gary Kurtz:
“When we made Star Wars, Vader and Anakin were two separate people. The idea that Vader was Luke’s father didn’t exist. I remember Lucas talked about Anakin having killed Vader and then taking his identity, but that was dropped early on. The whole twist in Empire was new and unexpected.”Star Wars Insider #138, 2011
So @Barfolomew and @Channel72 were basically right. The paradigm of the Brackett draft of ESB was factually correct as it goes, but also wasn’t telling the whole story: Lucas indeed had an earlier version of the twist when they were making the first film, no less, but it was ultimately dropped. Lucas then came up with the ‘Vader killed Luke’s father’ story for the final script (the Revised fourth draft), and this is what went into film. This notion was still in place
when they started work on Empire. When it came to the second draft (by Lucas alone), Lucas re-worked his earlier dropped idea, and merged the Vader and Annikin(Anakin)Luke’s father characters, and the rest is history.
Just for the record…
Unfortunately the above quote found online by TS (via a ‘google search’) does NOT exist in ‘Star Wars Insider #138, 2011’.
Both TS and myself have had a thorough look through Issue #138 of SW Insider (which is actually the issue for January 2013 - and NOT 2011) - and there is no quote or mention of Gary Kurtz in that issue.
I’ve had a look through adjoining issues, the 2011 issues - other publications similar to SW Insider at the time, also online in general - and cannot find such a quote from Gary Kurtz. TS has also searched for the quote and cannot find a source for it either.
It does NOT look like the quote is actually from Gary Kurtz - or exists outside of what TS found in that google search.
If anyone does know of this quote - and where is originates from - please post it up in here. Thanks, as always. 👍
After a fair bit of searching for this elusive quote attributed to Gary Kurtz I can only conclude it is indeed a fake.
Kurtz made no such statement - certainly not in ‘Star Wars Insider #138, 2011’ - with people now seemingly trying to invent or misattribute online quotes for Gary Kurtz to try and re-write film history.

With much egg on my face if it the supposed quote from Gary Kurtz does turn up eventually somewhere else. 😉
I loved it; starfields again! Blue skies & whiter clouds, R2’s circular eye turning blue-to red and back (and his rear circular eye being a brighter green), Threepio now facing the altered trajectory of the ‘Crawler, the overall colouring making the droids featured pop (and Threepio’s sliver leg appears more pronounced, too). The two planets in the background at night, Jawas’ brighter eyes, the Crawler’s ramp and surrounding lighting - for the distance shot, and the blue inner door of the escape pod for the ‘Look, sir. Droids!’. (plus whatever else I missed).
Basically, the Gary Kurtz quote shows that I was wrong. Lucas did NOT merge Vader and Anakin until Empire (ESB), and it was with Empire, not Jedi (ROTJ) that he did this. The earlier ‘father Vader twist’ idea that Lucas had during the writing stage/pre-production of SW (ANH) was dropped before the final version of the script was done.
Fair play to you, TS. Not many would admit that. 👍

For anyone interested in when Vader was retconned to become Luke’s father… these may be of interest for further info:-
(from multiple sources - mainly consistent and confirmed - including from Lucasfilm high-ups, Marcia Lucas, & JW Rinzler etc)
• Category #5 of George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist…
• Emre’s two ‘info & image’ posts on the subject here: link & link - citing JW Rinzler and earlier drafts of scripts.
• The 2019 ‘Star Wars Mythbusting’ twitter thread by Lucasfilm Creative Arts Manager Phil Szostak
• and the Marcia Lucas interview in ‘Icons Uncovered’ documentary where she talks about how and when George retconned Vader to be Luke’s father - whilst writing the 2nd draft of Empire Strikes Back (GL, Marcia, Huyk & Katz were all having dinner).
Hi, oojason. I actually didn’t confirm that, per our discussions. I said that it would be ironic if the only known quote from Kurtz contradicting that Vader was Luke’s father when STAR WARS was made turned out to not be genuine.
Ah, it appears you hadn’t quite finished editing your post reply in PMs to me - as it has changed since; hence my PM reply to you in there re it ‘turning out not to be a real one from Gary Kurtz’ at the time.
Yet still no luck finding the elusive Kurtz quote that does not seem to exist outside of a google search link? PM me if you’ve had any fortune locating it.
The Marcia Lucas Katz/Huyck thing doesn’t track at all with any contemporaneous statements from back in the early 1980’s. Had it actually happened, I doubt that biographer Dale Pollock (“Skywalking” 1983) would have failed to notice it. Though I suppose that Huyck ‘joke’ inspiring the twist could sort of serve as a provisional band-aid for those who find the just-so theory that Lucas would have come up with the twist all on his own in 1978 while writing EMPIRE, but fail to come up with it in 1975 when writing STAR WARS, to be on the very low-end of the probability scale.
Really? I thought it tracked with events quite well and also fits the timeline of George working on Empire - whilst having no reason to doubt Marcia in her own words outlining how it came all about. You did get around to watching Icons Uncovered? Hopefully it also cleared up your doubts on the issues surrounding the timeline of Gary Kurtz’ departure from Lucasfilm as per Howard Kazanjian lifting the veil on that particular situation. I must get around to giving the book a read, apparently there is much more intriguing information (in general) in there.
