The Say Something Nice About Another Poster Thread

There is a whole list of fellow members on here I should say very nice and complimentary things about, though I’ll start off with…

Rodney-2187; not only a top poster on here in general, but also came up with two very helpful quality threads that benefit the community here:-

There was this year’s, Mccartney 3,2,1 which I approached warily.
McCartney has had a history of attempting to retell events.
This brief series was quite well done, with host Rick Rubin keeping the topics on the music.
Song construction, retakes, editing, basslines.
While aimed at musicians, anyone can follow along, and the minimalist filming works well.

Nice one, V. I’ll search that out and give it watch.

The Guardian came up with an intriguing 15 minute video & article as part of the PR content for the coming Get Back release…

The Beatles, Get Back and London: on the trail of a timeless story’:-

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw71ucAUi2U - a 15 minute video at The Guardian youtube channel.

The blurb:-

‘In early 1969, John, Paul, George and Ringo worked on a project in London that would result in an amazing performance on a West End rooftop, and some of their most-loved songs. The story is captured in the new documentary series Get Back. In a film specially commissioned by Apple Corps, John Harris and John Domokos follow the Beatles’ steps, get immersed in their archive, and do what the Fab Four’s film-makers did – talk to the public.’

‘Annoying snobs was part of the fun’: Paul McCartney and more on the Beatles’ rooftop farewell’:-

As Peter Jackson’s TV series Get Back recasts the Fab Four’s final days in a more positive light, the ex-Beatle remembers the responses to their historic gig above the streets of London

Does anyone have scans of the 2006 Limited Edition Trilogy DVD covers?
Time

ImJustWhelmed said:

It doesn’t look like this site linked is up and running anymore. Any scans out there of the gold version covers? Can’t find them anywhere.

In the An Index & Help Thread for Case Covers, Disc Labels, and Fan Art thread there is a section for ‘Generic Custom Cover website links’ (some with both official and custom Star Wars covers & disc art).

In this section is a list of 30+ generic cover sites - offering both custom and official covers for many franchises out there - including Star Wars.

Some sites no longer function, or are not functioning at present (but may again in the future) - and some are working okay now.

A very quick look through the list of sites… and I found these 2006 GOUT DVD bonus disk gold label covers:-

SW: https://www.covercity.net/cover/dvd-covers-star-wars-episode-iv-a-new-hope-117041
ESB: https://www.covercity.net/cover/dvd-covers-star-wars-episode-v-the-empire-strikes-back-117039
ROTJ: https://www.covercity.net/cover/dvd-covers-star-wars-episode-vi-return-of-the-jedi-117043

You will need to join / register with the site to be able to download them (as far as I can tell).

There is likely more of these covers on some of the other sites listed up in the Index (I only had a quick look) - or other generic covers sites out there.

This may be worth checking out too (I think it may have used to have those 2006 gold label covers - or variants of them):-

Good luck with it 👍

If Pablo is inferring there is a ‘high quality’ version of the Holiday Special in their archives… then hopefully one day we’ll see it up on Disney+. After all, there is not much point in such a version being kept in there and remaining unseen by the fans…

We already have a master tape copy, I don’t think it gets much higher quality than that.
Your average Joe is probably used to seeing 7th generation copies.

It seems some additional work may have been done to The Holiday Special…

Star Trek Discovery fans angry as new season is pulled days before launch’:-

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-59316606

'Star Trek fans have been left livid after the global release of the new season of spin-off show Discovery was pulled days before its planned launch.

The fourth season of the sci-fi series had been due to launch outside North America on Netflix on Friday.

However, Netflix has lost the global rights to Paramount, which will now put the show on its own streaming service.

Viewers outside the US and Canada must wait until Paramount+ launches in 20 countries including the UK next year.

A statement said it would be available in early 2022, but an exact date and plans for the rest of the world have not been announced.’

https://twitter.com/StarTrekOnPPlus/status/1460714359588483074

^ Seems to read like a vague ‘STFU and put up with it’.

As someone else said elsewhere…

'Incredible PR work, sending cast members to Destination Star Trek in London the weekend to plug the season starting this week, then 48 hours later saying “oh, and by the way you c**** aren’t getting to see it,” 48 hours before it’s due. The PR skills are amazing. Fuck ‘em’.

It seems cast and crew, whilst on the PR tour of Europe, weren’t aware of this either (and share the ‘understandably upset’ and ‘disappointment & frustration’):-

https://twitter.com/albinokid/status/1460811969053745158

I’m sure nobody knows of other ways and means to watch such shows meanwhile…

And I’m quite sure everyone will be simply counting down the days until they are able to subscribe to such a service that doesn’t exist for them yet - with no availability date even given. Whilst likely being subject to massive spoilers online for episodes that air in the US & Canada…

Made up with both tees - top quality and long lasting… with a classic design that is something a little different from the norm.

StarWars•com plugging ‘the first-ever official Life Day merchandise’ for the 1978 Holiday Special…

It’s officially Life Day with the new ShopDisney Collection’:-

Celebrate the Wookiee Holiday with Chewbacca in a red robe, glowing orbs, and more!

Seems a little weird to be selling merchandise for something that hasn’t had an official release since it’s initial TV airing some 43 years ago.

Hopefully we’ll soon see an actual official release for the Holiday Special (I think?!) - even if it was to likely happen it’d probably be as a part of the ‘Vintage Collection’ up on Disney+.

Jason Wingreen, disintegrated from history by Lucasfilm, for their new doc on Boba Fett
Time

Riquendes said:

Sorry, I did not see Jason already posted videos on this in The random YouTube / Vimeo etc video thread for the Original Trilogy

No worries at all, mate - and thinking about it… this should have its own thread.

(and feel free to re-post any of those videos up in here too - if you so wish, of course. It may help younger / newer fans realise Jason Wingreen’s impactful contribution in the role of Boba, to say nothing of that distinct, chilling, and defined original voice.)

As said in amongst the other videos:-

‘Hopefully they’ll amend the documentary - or rectify the omission of Jason Wingreen in the credits… though I doubt it.’

Lucasfilm have seemingly become quite adept at re-writing the history of the Original Trilogy, and early Star Wars overall…

Yes, there is a LOT of content there in ‘Beyond the Original Trilogy’ - yet outside of the Prequel and Sequel trilogies, most releases only have one or two threads.

At present, the Original Trilogy Discussion section is, understandably, twice the size of Beyond the Original Trilogy - and many of the various releases found in ‘Beyond the Original Trilogy’ don’t have much traffic, unfortunately.

Hopefully that will change in the near future with more new shows being released. However, even with the recent and popular Mandalorian series… there are only a couple of active threads for it.

The 'An Index & Help Thread for Beyond the Original Trilogy ’ thread should also be of assistance in helping anyone find what they are looking for.

It is certainly an idea worth revisiting / keeping an eye on. Thanks Rodney. 👍

Disney+ streaming platform : Star Wars content & various other info
Time

The Star Wars part of ‘Disney+ Day’ (12th November) has been somewhat of a bust, so far.

Despite highlighting and promoting Star Wars content to come today…

for example this 30 clip from the official Disney+ twitter - https://twitter.com/disneyplus/status/1459205919196151811

…which includes The Bad Batch (Season 2), Andor, The Book Of Boba Fett, Under the Helmet: Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi…

there is only the ‘sizzle’ / BTS type video for Obi-Wan Kenobi released - and that is only officially up on Disney+ itself.

Other than that, the ‘Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett’, the 22 minute documentary ‘exploring the history of the legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett’, did air on Disney+ today.

It was a decent enough watch - with not much content many of us haven’t likely seen before…

Yet it also did not feature a single mention or reference of Jason Wingreen being the original voice of Boba in the Original Trilogy films.

More on that, here

…and now also in the ‘Jason Wingreen, disintegrated from history by Lucasfilm, for their new doc on Boba Fett’ thread, too.

Boba Fett Voice Comparison - Defending the Unaltered OT - A Discussion About Star Wars Consistency’:-

www.youtube.com/watch?v=41jxMmC-COk - a 5 minute video from 2020, at the The Corellian Connection youtube channel.

The blurb:-

'Despite his mere total of 4 lines in the Empire Strikes Back, Bob Fett has become one of the most beloved characters in Star Wars; truly an icon. Fett was originally voiced by American actor Jason Wingreen. George Lucas later had Fett’s lines redubbed by New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison; the actor who played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones.

While I understand why Lucas decided to make this change, and personally think Morrison would be the perfect cast for any cold blooded bounty hunter, I ultimately do not agree with it. While I do greatly prefer the aesthetic of Wingreen’s lines, I actually believe that the change does not make canonical sense.

In this video, I discuss why I think changing Fett’s voice from Wingreen to Morrison is both unnecessary and ultimately inconsistent with what we know about the Star Wars universe and real world accent development.’

Boba Fett’s Voice: Temuera Morrison (2004) vs. Jason Wingreen (1980)’:-

www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9N4tE8gqIQ - a 20 second video at the Boba Fett Fan Club youtube channel.

The blurb:-

'On this day (21st September) in 2004, Boba Fett’s original voice was officially replaced

Do you prefer the new (Temuera Morrison) or the old (Jason Wingreen)?

Starting with the Star Wars Trilogy DVD release on September 21, 2004, all subsequent releases use the new voice.’

‘Explore the history of the legendary bounty hunter in Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett, an Original Documentary Special, now streaming on @DisneyPlus’ - https://twitter.com/starwars/status/1459189405374058498

^ Poor Jason Wingreen… not even a mention of him in the new ‘Under The Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett’ doc on Disney+.

An otherwise decent-ish doc on Boba - including contributions from Joe Johnston, Duwayne Dunham, plus some lovely footage of Jeremy Bulloch. George, Filoni, Ben Burtt, Daniel Logan and Temuera Morrison feature too.

Yet no Jason Wingreen at all - all the featured audio for Boba in the Original Trilogy is by Temuera Morrison - with no mention they were even changed, or who they were originally voiced by. A bit shite, that… to say the least.

A decent surface level watch overall - yet nothing new in it that I can remember (22 minutes in total).

It seemed yet another attempt at erasing / altering Star Wars history (or a somewhat unbelievable oversight on the part of Lucasfilm). If you were a kid, or someone new to the franchise, watching that doc… you’d never know Jason Wingreen originally voiced Boba.

Hopefully they’ll amend the documentary - or rectify the omission of Jason Wingreen in the credits… though I doubt it.
