That reminds me, I once saw the same Samsung model I have in a store - with a huge ugly store logo permanently burnt into the screen. Another reason I got worried about burn on mine.
Should have asked your advice before buying, I guess...
Anyway, revised advice to HotRod - don't get a Samsung plasma for gaming!

So... Rev W Awdry. Wrote the popular children's books collectively titled The Railway Series, which was the basis for the Thomas and Friends TV show.
He made a classic work "Henry the Green Engine" in 1951.
But, in 1972, the story was attacked by the national press for containing the phrase "as black as niggers". To solve the problem, he changed the offending sentence to "as black as soot", which has been used in all subsequent editions of the book.
Err... can't see many people complaining about that one.
It's not a myth - at least, it might not be a problem on a high end Kuro, but I assure you on my entry level Samsung panel (bought in 2008) I get traces of game score counters, or that bloody CBeebies channel logo, showing up even the next day.
The worry of permanent burn was enough to make me turn the contrast right down on the Wii input.
The manual for this panel has screen burn warnings on the front page, and a statement to say that screen burn is not covered in the warranty. The menu also has several options for avoiding or rectifying screen burn (a whitewash, a b/w scrolling pattern, options to pixel shift a PC display at periodic intervals, and for setting the brightness of the "windowbox" bars when displaying 4:3 material).
Conversely, my Hitachi LCD panel has none of these options. It mentions image retention briefly in the manual, and says it can easily be rectified by turning the display off.

Hopefully it doesn't breach any rules, let me know if it does.
To clarify the rules:
If you were just adding the original audio from VHS to the video from the official DVDs, that would be classed as a Custom DVD - you can still talk about the project, but you're not allowed to talk abut sharing it.
However, as your project is purely a Preservation of the original VHS, then there are no such restrictions.

Being the geek that I am, I'm interested in the technical details of this project - what VCR you're using, what capture device, software, etc.
Ok, well I'm using a JVC HR-S7600EK S-VHS PAL VCR, connected to a PC with an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 AGP card via an S-Video cable and Left & Right audio phono leads.
Nice VCR - has a built-in TBC I think. Don't know much about the capture card, but the later ATi Theatre chipsets are known to be pretty good.
... BeLight & BeSweet to encode the AC3 audio,...
BeSweet's AC3 encoder used to be buggy, don't know if it's been improved. You should probably look at using Aften.
I know you recommended & used the Lagarith Lossless video Codec for the Evil Dead Laserdisc capture, and I did test this out as well as Huffyuv, but I was getting dropped frames with Lagarith, but none with Huffyuv, really it just comes down to compression, the quality between the two is virtually identical by the time you get to the finished DVD, so I'm happy to stick with Huffyuv.
Both Lararith and Huffyuv are lossless, so the quality is not "virtually" identical - it is "exactly" identical! As you say, the only difference is that Lagarith produces slightly smaller intermediate files (and it is compatible with more colourspaces - not an issue here).
I found the thread by opening the Project Index and hitting Ctrl+F. There's also an entry on the wiki, but the listing doesn't contain any details whatsoever.
It's slightly confusing because the (very old) thread starts out talking about a fan edit, but as far as I can tell the DVD that was uploaded to TPB was just a preservation of the widescreen LD.
An anamorphic enhanced 2.35:1 picture will still have the black bars.
I managed to find SotSRestored24.mpv on my hard drive, which was I think your test sample, but I don't seem to have anything fom the original capture.
Hi, good to see you again...
Being the geek that I am, I'm interested in the technical details of this project - what VCR you're using, what capture device, software, etc.
It would also be interesting to see screenshots comparing your preservation with the official DVD.

For gaming, I'd say an LCD - plasma TVs are more vulnerable to screen burn.
Has anyone asked Puggo if he'd be willing to transfer the 8mm film?

... The 5.1 track on the Raiders DVD was derived from the original 6 track mix. Nothing was added or taken away. The mix was done at Paramount and not Lucasfilm. Had Lucasfilm been involved, I'm sure new elements would have creeped in, but as it is, the DVD IS the original mix. And the original Dolby Stereo track was derived as well from the 6 track master. This isn't a case like Star Wars where multiple mixes were made.
The digital PCM track on the widescreen laser disc is wrong! It has at least one sound effect that is different from the original film and the analog sound on the original LD is pretty fuzzy sounding. Neither are worth preserving.
Neil
Neil can be considered an authority on such matters.
Are you talking about this LD release that had a Dolby Digital audio track?
If it really was remastered from the 70mm audio, it's quite possible that the surround (rear) channel is mono - this was the configuration for 70mm 6-track sound around that time (left, centre, right, surround, LFE left, LFE right).
Dolby Digital tracks can only have one LFE channel, so the audio would be actually be 4.1 (or maybe 5.1 with "dual mono" surrounds).
Anyway, I don't have the laserdisc, nor the facility to capture Dolby Digital streams off LD. But this sounds like an interesting bit of history to explore.
With thanks to andy_k_250 for the original list and spoRv for the update.

The Welcome to the OT.com; Introduce yourself in here thread is just that; a place to make your first post on here - and for more longstanding members to welcome new additions to our community.
Secondly, the About and Help sections may be of interest to you regarding this site and what the OriginalTrilogy•com is about.
Thirdly, the ‘How do I do this?’ on the OriginalTrilogy.com - some info & answers to members’ queries thread should also hopefully be of some help as to many of the functions of the site, along with other related info as well.
The Announcements Section - including Site Rules & Guidelines, Fan Edit & Preservation Rules & FAQ, as well info for Signatures, Linking Policy for Downloads, and Plot Spoiler Policy (and much more) that may be of use too.
If you are having any issues with the site, have a question, an idea to improve the site, or would like to give some feedback - then these can be done in the Feedback Forum and General Assistance sections.
There are also several Index Threads pinned at the top of many respective sections of the OT•com - which may help members find various topics of discussion, fan edits, preservations and other projects etc.

'An OriginalTrilogy.com timeline thread - a history of the site and why & how it came to be…’ chronicles both the history of this site & also it’s continuing evolution.
The ‘Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes’ thread by doubleofive contains many sources of information as to the numerous changes made to the Original Trilogy films over time - as well as serving as an insightful and comprehensive discussion thread and reference point on the subject.
And, the ‘George Lucas: Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist…’ thread attempts to highlight and catalogue some of the revisionism, altering of history and contradictory claims by George Lucas / Lucasfilm as to the formation, planning and history of the Star Wars films and universe therein.
Finally, the A centralised collection of OT.com threads supporting the call for an official release of the unaltered theatrical version of the Original Trilogy films | + Info on how you can help… thread - highlighting just a few of the discussion threads on here which cover some of the wider issues and differing angles on the topic at hand.
(and take the time to look around to see how this place works - and doesn’t - before posting requests for projects on here - thank you)
A fair few people join here for a particular Preservation Project, Fan Edit, documentary, blu ray or dvd cover etc. We ask that those who do… also have a look around; see if there are other Projects, Edits or works of interest to your liking. To give the Star Wars discussion threads a read through, or those in the Off Topic sections. To have a think about becoming a part of the community here; and consider not becoming a one-time poster… asking for a link to a project and to never be seen again.
Many of the projects on here have been undertaken by volunteers or enthusiasts who’ve devoted considerable time, effort, dedication and some expense… to locate, preserve, restore & archive - or edit - films and TV programs in their best possible presentation. This is often with painstaking commitment - yet all projects are available for free; not to mention our members also improving upon & sharing techniques, knowledge, technical assistance, experiences - and a few stories, along the way.
Joining up here and then creating a new thread along the lines ‘Give me the link to X’, ‘Where is project Y’, or going straight into a project thread and posting ‘How do I get these?’ doesn’t really fly on here - and will likely be ignored or deleted. Taking the time to learn about a project - by reading through the project thread - as well as how to acquire them; simply making an effort to be part of the community here, and how this place works, even if just leaving feedback for acquired projects, can go a long way…
NOTE: Many editors & preservationists choose not to make their projects available to ‘hit & runners’ or people with a post history of mainly asking for many projects - which is completely up to them. That some people join up here looking to simply take - instead of give something back; not even leaving a simple ‘thank you’, feedback or review, or join in with the community here - and instead move on to asking for more projects… is not encouraged. As above, such requests may likely be ignored.
Number of signatories has now reached the first thousand...
I've always thought of force sensitivity as something anyone can develop with training, but some are naturally stronger than others (and this strength is hereditary).
The ban on marriage is a prequel idea; I don't really pay much attention to that.

Choppy playback may be rectified by using a faster AVC decoder. CoreAVC is generally regarded to be the fastest, but it's not free. If you have a dual core (or higher) CPU, you might get acceptable results using the latest build of ffdshow with ffmpeg-mt enabled.
Or, if you have a video card with DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA), you could try using Media Player Classic Home Cinema - the GPU does the decoding relieving some of the load on the CPU.

One way would be to use an AviSynth script thus:
AviSource("your25fpsfile.avi")
AssumeFPS("ntsc_film", sync_audio=true)
which will play at 23.976fps in any media player.
Another option would be to use the ReClock DirectShow filter.
