I disagree with your idea that Ahsoka making a cameo means we’ll get a prequel situation with loads of boring Jedi everywhere.

I’m not worried about that. It’s just that the fewer known Jedis there are in an immediate-post-RotJ universe, the better it fits my head canon. Luke showing up would fit. Goofy-looking (sorry guys) PT Jedis showing up would not. That’s just a personal thing, but anything can work and be good. I’m keeping some faith that this will keep being a show I’m interested in next season.

Disney won’t keep pouring unlimited money into this show, so the effects will get more “TV” as the show goes on. De-aging effects look great in high-budget movies, but I’m not so sure if it can work here.

This is true… But really, if the story around it works, I’ll always forgive less than perfect effects.
I really think they could do it well enough, but I really doubt they’ll do it at all.

Her sendoff in the finale of TCW season 5 was already a good ending, but she came back in Rebels. Her defeat by Vader on Malachor made up for it by being an even more emotional ending for her. But then she even survives that, to even after ROTJ! Then Filoni doubles down to before all this and says that Ashoka actually talked to Anakin after she left the Jedi Order, they apparently made up, and she led the Siege of Mandalore against Maul.

While I agree she should have died on Malachor, her first exit at the end of season 5 was never supposed to be her end. They were cancelled after the Disney buyout and luckily for them season 5 ended where it did. The reunion with Anakin and the final battle on Mandalore were all part of the original plan, we’re extremely lucky Dave finally got to finish it.

I’d also like something like that to happen, but I’m cautiously optimistic if it can be pulled off convincingly. They were able to deage Anthony Hopkins marvelously for Westworld on a TV budget.

I mean, either way, I think her never talking to Anakin again from then until Malachor works better for both her story and Anakin’s. I know Filoni came up with their reunion pre-ROTS/Mandalore way back then as well, but that just adds to my gripe with his storytelling. Did he not realize how much more sense it makes for Anakin to still be carrying his hurt about her into ROTS? Or how Ashoka sustaining guilt for leaving works for the drama of finding out he’s Vader?

I guess I meant to say, he didn’t have to adhere to that unfinished/unrealized story arc, especially after TCW got cancelled. It worked just fine, better even, without it. That said, I’m a dumb dumb baby boy who is also very excited about finally seeing it completed. I do love Ashoka and will watch the arc and love it. I just kinda disagree with it. In my eyes, it should have been Siege of Mandalore, but Ashoka dies in Order 66 and Malachor never happens. Or don’t do it and Malachor is Ashoka’s end.

Filoni’s just doing the revisionist Lucas thing, saying “The Clone Wars was always a show about Ashoka and Rex,” and making them super important characters to the main story of the series. And even The Mandalorian now, apparently.

As a long time Clone Wars fan… I agree. It’s clear Filoni is way to attached to these characters. Just kill Ahsoka off already, it’s already asking much to have her survive into Rebels, but now she was the most highly qualified Jedi through the OT? So much for Luke.

Watch, they’re gonna retcon in Ahsoka to train Luke in between ESB and ROTJ and force a fake relationship a la Rey and Leia, thus nullifying any impact of Yoda.

Frankly, as soon as I saw the Darksaber, I knew we’d be getting live action Sabine, and that logically would mean we’d also likely be getting live action Ahsoka based on where both characters left off.

A little surprised Ahsoka is the one that we learned about first, but I guess that’s just because of who they cast.

But if Sabine doesn’t make an appearance, there better be a REALLY good reason Ahsoka’s there and she isn’t.

Both are soft. Once you look past the technobabble, Star Trek has almost no scientific accuracy.

Vulcans alone are pretty much magic space elves. They can literally read your mind and TRANSFER THEIR SOULS by touching your head and reciting a mantra. And that’s before you get into stuff like “slingshotting around the sun” and Warp 10 salamanders.

I love Star Trek to death but the pretentiousness its hardcore fans have exhibited regarding how “serious” and “important” it is has always rubbed me wrong. Star Trek is hopeful, and idealistic, but it’s also very often dumb as rocks and silly as shit.

Just like hardcore Star Wars fans need it to be the epitome of meaningful, epic myth ALL THE TIME, and anything that suggests it’s more bad than good (and more superficial than meaningful) will set them off, Star Trek fans need it to be super-smart and intellectual ALL THE TIME, and anyone who reminds them it’s more bad than good (and more dumb than smart) just shorts them out.

Not to be that guy, but wouldn’t Star Wars be the “soft” sci-fi in contrast to the “hard” science-fiction of Star Trek?

Both are soft. Once you look past the technobabble, Star Trek has almost no scientific accuracy. Hard sci-fi, at least in my definition, is stuff that has at least the scientific accuracy of the movie Interstellar. That movie is the bar that separates “hard” from “soft” for me.

You’re absolutely right. What stood out to me though was the reference to ST as “soft” in comparison to SW. If only SW and ST were relevant then I’d label ST as hard sci-fi, but in general, yes, ST takes far too many creative liberties to be considered anything but soft sci-fi.

Someone really need to coin a proper and catchy term for space fantasy so that us fans can finally start to distinguish SW from the rest of sci-fi and fantasy.

Same. This attitude kept me away from the entire franchise for most of my 39 years of life.

Star Trek is hopeful, and idealistic, but it’s also very often dumb as rocks and silly as shit.

A couple of years ago I realized that this is the truth about it. And I now love TOS.

He no like Ahsoka. (FFS = for fuck’s sake)

I mean she’s okay, but forcing her to every show is just unnecessary. Let the past die and so on… I guess the “Boba Fett” in one episode was probably Sabine then. Probably some clones still alive too.

Funny how a Star Wars tv show is getting more behind-the-scenes material than one of the new movies. Go figure.

In this day and age, we were honestly lucky to get feature length docs for each sequel film (plus featurettes).

Ok so I don’t believe any of these casting rumours. Most of these news outlets are trying to get people to click. The Ahsoka rumor is 100% false, and nothing from Lucasfilm has actually confirmed the Boba Fett and Bo-Katan stuff.

I don’t think 5 news outlets confirming it and an implied confirmation from the actress herself counts as “100% false”.

Yeah, that stuff is kind of shakier. But Lucasfilm is notoriously secretive, and Boba Fett and Bo Katan would just make sense given that the show is called “The Mandalorian”. I’m expecting the second season to dive a lot more into Mandalorian history and culture, and feature a backdoor pilot episode for the Rebels sequel.

Those news outlets are clickbait. The actress came out with an interview and didn’t even know how to say Ahsoka’s name correctly.

Then she said:

“Someone did the art and I reposted it. Then star wars started following me. And then everybody started thinking it was a whole thing. And its literally been this internet situation. So internet, if it happens, its because of you.”

Ahsoka won’t be in this next season. That interview was posted in March of 2020 and they already shot season 2 by then.
