Are there any plans for a 1981 re-release Despecialized? I’d like to be able to see that version someday.

I’ll probably make a new one when Harmy finishes 3.0. There’s a version with my recreated ‘81 crawl spliced into 2.7 floating around in the ether somewhere. No idea who might still have that.

FYI, for anyone who wants to do a new version of that, you’re better off using Hal 9000’s custom ANH’s opening crawl, since he fixed the speed of the “STAR WARS” logo (which has been way too fast in ANH since 1997, but the 1981 crawl didn’t have that issue), but didn’t alter the crawl timing or anything else the way Adywan did for Revisited. It’s the closest we have to the 1981 crawl at the moment (outside of a 4K scan that exists but hasn’t been restored).

I’d love to have A New Hope: Despecialized HD.
I like the continuity with the other trilogy titles & the “fixed” opening flyover.
I’d love to be able to have a boxed trilogy of the numbered films & also Star Wars separately, as that’s how I categorize em: Star Wars is a stand-alone film, A New Hope is the beginning of a trilogy.
Currently, A New Hope is missing from my collection & that’s a shame.

My 28 year old coworker mentioned that she hasn’t seen Star Wars very many times, and wants to do a marathon, but has never seen the theatrical versions. Needless to say, I made her a copy of the despecialized editions on blu ray. Thanks again, Harmy!

Yes, I would like a 1981 version of the Despecialized or 4K77 (4K81?).

Also, thanks to Harmy and the team for the Despecialized editions.

See there’s your idea for a 3.0 edition; include an option to watch the film with its original 1981 Episode IV crawl in addition to the original one.

Look for the ‘The Ultimate Introductory Guide’ in the 1st post of this thread by Harmy - it had proved very useful for many, many people.

Alternatively…

Bluto’s Guide to Downloading Projects from Usenet

or

solkap’s NJVC Custom Blu-ray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions now available on Mega

may also be of some interest or help.

There is also the Some info & help for Harmy’s Despecialized Editions of the Original Trilogy… which has some basic information too.

Good luck with it 😃

Why wait for Harmy’s reconstruction of the 81 crawl and flyover when you can have it now!

The link is over six years old and still works. I take back everything bad I’ve ever said about Uloz.

Certain restrictions may apply. You may need to download video from a Czech language website and edit the video into the rest of the film yourself. Viewers may experience dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, and a vague sense that an entire planet missed its musical cue by several seconds. If the lightsaber duel lasts longer than four hours, call your doctor immediately.

EDIT: Dangit, nevermind. It’s just the crawl with no flyover. And I made a dick joke and everything 😦

This might be the completely wrong place to ask this but I’ve searched far and wide across this site and found nothing.

I’m looking for the image for the blu-ray boxset using Spheretronic’s art. When I googled “Spheretronic’s boxset” the image I was looking for popped up but it was in low quality. I then clicked on the link to go to the place where the image was in hopes to find a higher quality image, and it brought me here. I searched the page where it took me and I can’t find the actual image and I think some of the links may be a little old.

I apologise if this is the wrong place to post this but I’d really appreciate any help in trying to find this image. Thanks!

Oh yes thank you! I had tried that one before and it said “uloz had unexpectedly closed the connection”. For some reason I tried the link using data this time and it worked! Must be something wrong with my wifi. Thank you very much!

The blu-ray.com reviews of the 4K OT really hands the release its ass. Shame. Could’ve been a great source if they hadn’t tinkered so much.

I wouldn’t be too discouraged by the flaws in the recent transfer. It’s still the best the trilogy has ever looked on home video. I think it will make a great source for Despecialized 3.0.

He could do that, if it means preserving consistency between sources. I don’t think added grain is much more radical than regraded colors.

When is Harmy going to start working on his V3.0’s?

I’m not sure. Last time I heard, he was too busy with his personal life.

FWIW, Harmy’s already pretty adept at using fake grain – the existing DeEd’s use it to grain-match sources. That would definitely be a major component of anything using this new source.

And I think the new source is worth using. It doesn’t have to be a great or flawless release, it just needs to be a better source than the 2011 Blu’s, which IMO it is. Also disappointed by the grain, but this a solvable problem. And besides, Harmy demonstrated at one point that the grain on the 2011 releases was fake grain anyway – so we’ve already been soaking in it for a decade, this is not a new problem.
