Ok! I’ve already forgotten where I read this, but the same creature shop that worked on TFA and Rogue One is allegedly working on a practical Jabba puppet ala ROTJ.
Where were you in '77?
Why bother? I thought this looked pretty good:
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
In all seriousness though, I may see this movie just for that.

Are any pieces of Jabba still around? Like the eyes? Or any plans on how Freeborn constructed the original? A practical Jabba in Han Solo would piss the SE fans off so bad. Love.
It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher
The skin likely rotted away long ago. I think I’ve seen a photo of the eyes in an exhibit somewhere. (Propstore has had a few face castings and internal pieces in their collection or auctions.) I’m sure there must be some photographic reference materials in the Lucasfilm archives.
JEDIT: Photo taken at Chicago Museum of Science and Industry in 1996.
If any of the original Jabba puppeteers are still around, and they’re brought into the production, that would be the icing on the cake.

All of these exhumations for new stories - from Creepy Puppet Yoda to CGI Tarkin to Nu-Jabba - were all flashing red lights indicating the need for new characters. Not that I have anything against bringing them back, but at some point it becomes easier to just write around them and give us something new instead of attempting to live up to unassailable performances of old.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Who said CPY was coming back?

I hope you’re joking.

I get what you’re saying, but there is something to creating continuity between the stories. In this case, Han and Jabba clearly have a history (with the character in the films always representing the world Solo came from). He doesn’t have to be in the film, of course, but if the story calls for it, why not?
Anyway, if we do get a puppet Jabba, that’d be a real sight to see.

I’d be interested in seeing it as well if they’re really going for broke trying to outdo the original puppet and if there is a substantial story reason for such a character. If that’s the case, it makes sense to attempt it, however it irks me when major characters have cameos just because ‘hey its what’s-his-name!’. I believe that a character is appreciated for what they bring to the story, so when a character is reused and brings nothing to the story, that character is diminished to me.

Who said CPY was coming back?
I like how he never responded.
Some people are saying CPY is coming back. Just a desperate ploy by out-of-power Disney to distract. SAD!

Must have missed that response.
CPY was the attempt to bring Yoda back in '99. That desperate ploy was by Lucasfilm, of course.

CPY didn’t voluntarily join Star Wars, he was brought on by Yoda’s bad (pathetic) ratings, not by Lucasfilm. Sad end to great character
To follow up on what SilverWook said, here’s a couple of photos of Jabba’s eyes from the Star Wars Identities exhibit.

Goodbye sleep!
I think they should use them to make a practical hypnotoad.
Jabba as hypnotoad? There’s an idea for Frink! 😉

Aw man, now I wish I had done that in TRM instead of giving it to Holopalps.

There’s still your ROTJ edit. 😉

“How he got his name. How he got his ship. How he met Chewie.” bleh.
I’m slightly interested in the name thing. It’s always been my personal canon that Han Solo is his nickname.
Just throwing this out here;
maybe what he meant to say was “how he made a name for himself”.
Han was already a fairly well know smuggler by the time of ANH, so this film might revolve around some big event that makes him famous in the criminal underworld. My guess would be some expansion on the Kessel Run as it hasn’t made an actual appearance in the new canon yet.
Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)
