All Things Star Trek — Page 199

I just sat through season 3 opener for Discovery and was disappointed. A lot going on in it from the end of season 2, yet just didn’t feel any interest or engagement with it. I think I could have simply turned it off half way through and not bothered to watch the rest of the episode, and I haven’t done that since some of the bad Voyager episodes aired.

I’m hoping episode 2 will be better, though not holding out much hope. Feels a little weird as I easily and fully got into Picard.

Edit: Since the first couple of episodes I’ve really enjoyed this season (just watched the 6th episode) so far 😃

Strange New Worlds was what i was interested in seeing. It could be years before it airs due to covid.
It also halted any further development of a 4th Star Trek reboot film.

They rejected the Hawley script about a virus that threatens the entire Federation, and featured a whole new crew and cast. And also the Tarantino film that was a spinoff of a piece of the action from TOS.
Hemsworth seemed to think the story about George Kirk wasn’t worth doing either. But that was the one that was going to be made until contract negotiations broke down with Chris Pine over salary.

I would be fine with them recasting the rest of the TOS crew, since they already recast Spock and continuing where the original series left off.

The problem is fans would go ballistic over recasting Shatner Kirk in the prime timeline. But i figure why the hell not if the Kelvin timeline is dead and not on life support.

I watched Season 3 of Discovery it was filler in search of a story. Nothing happened and it was the single worst season of Star Trek i’ve ever seen. Which is painful because i love the cast and how they all interact like a family. Loved the end of Season 3 though, hopefully season 4 becomes Star Trek.

The Burn doesn’t pay off in any way, the only thing that happens is character growth and personal relationships but there is no story, or arc in any way. The Orions are the most ridiculous non threatening comic book style villains ever. I like Book he is probably the only reason this season didn’t completely suck. Though it would have been nice to have had a character arc for him where he started out not as a good guy and became one by the end of the season. He is kind of a Han Solo type character.

The iTunes copy of “The Motion Picture” is now the new master, and there are shoddy fixes done to some of the VFX mistakes. This is outside of The Director’s Edition, this is obviously just the cleanup team trying to patch things.

You’d think a few of of the original FX elements survived, since some TMP model shots got used on TNG more than once with new backgrounds. If Paramount had any sense, they’d bring in Douglas Trumbull to supervise any fixes.

He wanted to go back to the 65mm elements for the 4K version of TMP.

Doug Trumbull.

Wouldn’t that be expensive and do those elements still exist?

The cost of scanning wouldn’t be prohibitive, and they could be digitally composited now and printed back out to film, but this is Paramount we’re talking about.

La La Land records just released a remastered Star Trek II soundtrack. On CD. Neil S Bulk is the producer.

They actually found the original recording sessions.

Why do I even bother anymore?

I thought the Doctor from Voyager was referring to the songs origins tongue in cheek. Never mind i’ll see myself to the door.

Edit: found out the story circulating for years by Bob Justman isn’t even true.

How many other lies are in Star Trek the real story?

As long as they did this for The Director’s Edition. No one should recomposite the theatrical cut, that’s a slippery slope we’re already going down, thanks to someone at Paramount just doing their own thing from what it looks like.

I bought the 4K set of 1-4 sight unseen and it should be here on release day. So hopefully it is just the movies given a new scan, i don’t want any Lucas/Cameron level tinkering. Its bad enough already the stereo mixes of the films are being left off but a isolated score track will be on there.

What about original audio. Wouldn’t you want to include that first before creating a new feature. It boggles the mind.

If you look at my galleries in the post above, you’ll see exactly what you’re going to be getting. And only TMP gets an isolated score.

You know what i looked it up and you are right about the isolated Track being on only TMP. Still doesn’t change what i said about no original theatrical stereo audio tracks. I’d like to retire my Laserdiscs.

I’d assume the 7.1 is based on the 6 track mag soundtracks of Trek 1-4 but again i could be wrong.

They posted a preview comparing the 2001 Director’s Edition with the new 4K version!

They seem to have already taken it down, mate.
