is from the IMAX documentary about Special Effects. The opening battle sequence looked awesome on the BIG screen, but there was a later shot of the Falcon jumping to hyperspace that really floored me.

Yes indeed. I saw that in an Imax in Dallas in 1997. Great stuff. Shame it has never been released on any home format. I guess it would defeat the object.

Sorry to slightly stray (from the project) JD, couldn't help but to elaborate on this -
But GoldStone9, to expand on that third 'SW' quote you posted

What in the World?

An interesting little quote that I found while researching for the Star Wars Aficionado's Dbl. Iss. 5-6 'The Making of 'ANH' (Summer '04)

taken from Micheal Ondaatje's '03 book - 'The Conversations: Walter Murch (GL's good friend) and the Art of Editing Film'

"Originally George was going to direct APOCALYPSE NOW, it was a project that George and John Milius developed for ZOETROPE. That was back in '69. Then, when Warner Bros. cancelled the financing for ZOETROPE, the project was abandoned for a while. After the success of GRAFITTI in '73, Lucas wanted to reveive it, but it was still too hot a topic, the war was still on and nobody wanted to finance something like that. So George considered his options. What did he really want to say in APOCALYPSE? The message boiled down to the ability of a small group of people to defeat a gigantic power simply by the force of their convictions. He decided, All right, if it's politically too hot as a contemporary subject, I'll put the essence of the story in outer space and make it happen in a galaxy long ago and far away. The Rebel group were the Vietnamese, and the Empire was the United States and if you have the force, no matter how small you are, you can defeat the overwhelmingly big power. STAR WARS is George's transubstantiated version of APOCALYPSE NOW."

Heya, JD, I saw it mentioned a few pages back, but I'm just checking to be sure that you found a copy of the History Channel special titled 'Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed.' (page 13, your august 9th post)
It has a lot of interviews with film critics, historians and professors, filmmakers, etc. Big names like Kevin Smith, Newt Gingrich, Joss Whedon, Peter Jackson, Stephen Colbert, Tom Brokaw, and Dan Rather.

I know you said on page 14 that you would not be looking into the 'infamous' grappling over the chasm scene unless somebody provides evidence. Is there any way you might mention it as a widely believed myth that remains as-yet unproven?
--if you don't believe how 'widely' this memory is believed--

Hi all,

Yes, I've got the History Channel doc, but I tend not to use commentary from people if they weren't directly involved in the creation/production of the film.

As for the grappling hook, unless DWR comes up with some evidence that it existed in the lost cut, I am afraid I won't be perpetuating the myth. Logic tells me that by now we would have seen this footage if it existed. I am still open to suggestion but I won't be including a mention in 'Star Wars Begins'. Sorry if that disappoints you

No worries, bud. Thanks for the reply

Jambe, were you going to specifically ask DWR about the grappling hook scene, or are you just waiting to see if he brings it up?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I have asked him already, in an email. Unfortunately he hasn't replied yet. I just hope the reason it's taking time is because he is writing lots of juicy info. Then again, I might have scared him off!

Hi,

Single layer, or dual? Sorry if it's been asked, but I'll admit up front that I'm too lazy to shift through 15 pages of posts. If it's single layer, I'm willing to be part of a Pif chain...that is, if you start one....

Kind Regards,

Damn well spotted, it must only have been on screen for about a second.

I feel for editors such as JD and adywan; the expectations for the quality of their projects are set extremely high.

Saw the new trailer and was very excited... still, I know it's not even the tip of the iceberg on what's in store for us. I can't wait to see how the final Jabba scene came out.

Thanks Skot. I have a rather talented chap looking at the Jabba scene now. I am sure he'll do a great job.

I am currently looking for any Peter Cushing interviews (audio or video) in which he talks about SW. I already have some from a biography programme. But if you have anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me.
