Again, I like what you’re going for; I just don’t think the film shows it in any meaningful capacity. Especially “He’s willing to gamble with the devil” - that would have been so cool! But as the film never really does much with the idea of Kylo double crossing Palpatine aside from one or two throwaway lines. There’s no scene where Rey wonders about Kylo’s loyalties, or where Kylo openly goes against orders…It’s all played very straight. He says he’ll help Palpatine, and then he tells Rey he won’t. How compelling. But the key is, none of it changes how Rey sees Kylo at all, or how the audience sees Kylo at all. So any potential nuance or intrigue is nullified.
Oh yeah, in the theatrical version Palpatine just feels like a Snoke replacement so that Kylo regresses into “overturning his Master to take his place” mode like TLJ never happened and becoming the Supreme Leader meant nothing, him telling Rey he has “other plans” rings hollow.
But with these changes to the crawl, and removing his interest in “taking the thone”, the point of focus would now be on the conference scene where they talk about the how the fleet will turn the FO into a true Empire and increase their resources ten thousand fold. Since from the crawl we now know the FO is struggling with the growing uprising and Kylo’s looking to increase it’s power, we can now see this as Kylo’s main interest. He even says on that scene “prepare to crush any worlds that defy us”, so it’s not like this is something we’re completely making up, just giving it the focus it deserved.
And by removing Kylo’s interest in the throne, you remove his apparent allegiance to the Sith. I prefer the implication that he is just flat out against Palpatine’s plans and is just trying to use him (taking a gamble by confronting him and pretending to do his bidding). It feels more in line with the Kylo from TLJ, after all Palpatine is basically a symbol for resurrecting the past, the opposite of Kylo. That’s also why I really liked your change to Kylo’s line to Rey “we can stop Palpatine”, which aids in feeling like Kylo really has “other plans” of his own.
You really think that just because something is mentioned in the movie and has no evidence refuting it, doesn’t mean it’s automatically true? A fact is a fact. There’s nothing contradicting Kylo’s intentions to kill Palps.
Also, “We’ll take the throne” could be interpreted as Rey and Kylo ruling together in general, as he once proposed in TLJ. And there’s no indication he knew about the Sith throne specifically.
Yeah, to me, the throne = power. Kylo doesn’t want to be a Sith, but he wants that power.

As someone who defends TRoS, Kylo rebuilding his mask, and his relationship with Palpatine, and understands the story reasons and necessities behind them, I do agree that he didn’t feel exactly like Kylo Ren from TLJ specifically. I propose a new line after his proposal to Rey for them to kill Palps and take the throne.
KYLO REN: We’ll kill him together, and take the throne. Reform his Order into our own, berid of the things of old.
Thing is, where the hell are you going to get that dialogue? Sure, maybe the AI, but then you’d have to figure out how to duplicate the mask’s voice filter, which is harder than it sounds.
I think Hal’s solution is fine enough - simply clipping the end of his line about taking the throne.
Regarding the throne line, I pointed out my interpretation of it a couple of comments ago. Also, doesn’t Kylo say the line after he takes the helmet off?
I don’t buy that. There’s only one throne in the film, and it’s called the Sith throne. I don’t know why he’d want that when he wants the Sith to end.
And also, he definitely says that line with the helmet on.
There isn’t any indication he knew about the Sith throne specifically.
Also, I think removing Kylo’s line “and take the throne” dovetails with the opening crawl mentioning concern about a “threat to his rule.”
Personally, I’d be a vote of simply removing Kylo wanting to take the throne and he simply tells Rey that “Together we can stop Palpatine.” (Or however it can go) That would be more on par with his motivation in this edit because Kylo doesn’t care about Sith (and the old things) and not outright saying kill Palps because of the reveal at the beginning. Not saying that isn’t what he is trying to figure out how to dispose of him, but it keeps the “logical problem” that both he and the audience knows that “Killing him isn’t simple due to that transfer thingy.”
Plus … wouldn’t it be an easier thing to convince Rey of “Lets stop the big bad guy” and not “Let straight up murder his face.” What would a Jedi-in-training be more convinced to with? (Not saying it outright wouldn’t work to “trick” the Jedi, but come on, what would be more successful?)

I wonder if introducing the idea in the crawl that all or certain systems are being silenced would help with the “making you think you’re alone” element.

I feel like this edit has come to far to rely on what is in the crawl now. If something is better for the sake of the story and character motivations then maybe the crawl could be changed to help those adjustments.

I would read this as sarcasm from anyone else.
I do agree with changing the third paragraph to imply Kylo is tracking down a rumored threat to his rule rather than a macguffin that would allow him to destroy any unspecified threats to his rule.
Something like “Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren has investigated crap in Snoke’s desk drawer and rages in search of a rumored threat to his power…”
“Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren discovered Snoke’s journal that states Somehow, Palpatine returned…”
