I can’t think of another Star Wars site out there that has achieved as much as this one. Happy Birthday OT.com and also thank you to Jay and everyone who has contributed here.

Looking forward to what the next 17 years will bring 😃

Tighten Up and then turn it all the way up to 11!

Nope, but when I joined in 2012 I remember that the best source for the OT was the GOUT.

Now we have 4K versions of 2/3 of the trilogy, something that nobody would have thought possible even then.

This place has probably had the biggest impact in spreading awareness of Star Wars in all its original glory, and I think that’s absolutely wonderful.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Wowee, 17 years…

We’ve certainly come a long way. Anyone else remember passing around LaserDisc rips on physical DVDs through the mail?

Yeah, I do. Some of you guys might still have my parents’ address from when I was too young to drive but still sent around Dr. Gonzo, TR47 and EditDroid DVD+R copies all over the country with zero regard for my family’s privacy…

OT no longer has to sneak into R rated movies. They grow up so fast! 😉

Oh, yes! The PIF on here was strong…

So many paper cuts from the jiffy bags, and lots of badly burnt ‘coasters’ (unless you could afford the verbatim or ritek discs?), though postage was cheap even to send packages to the four corners of the world, and post offices even existed - though there were many questions from them about just what was in in these jiffy bags being sent all over the world!

Many people didn’t even had dvd drives on their computers - let alone broadband, or even hard drives with enough space on them to hold a 4gb dvd file or three. Even the likes of rapidshare giving us enough storage space was a few years off. It was probably quicker to send a package halfway across the world in the post than it was to acquire a dvd-sized file on kazaa or Suprnova (40kb/s was a decent speed) apparently…

Good to see a few familiar faces from the days of PIF in this thread too 😉

Man, the same goes for the community here. 18 months ago we were faced with shuttering the entire ordeal. Behind the scenes we were scrambling to come up with ways to continue: Portage to another format and server, start over somewhere else, keep it all as a static archive and just link back to it from wherever we landed, etc.

All our years of discussion, preservation, and fighting the good fight were on the brink of becoming a read-only archive of 16 years of Star Wars fandom. Jay gave us several months to formulate a plan and was very involved and willing to help with whatever we chose.

Faced with extinction and a scattering of long time friends and fellow members, you guys stepped up to the plate and swung hard. As of today, we are funded for the next three years.

Consider a glass raised to you all. 🍷

It seems not too long ago in the immediate post GOUT world where I stumbled onto here and found my love of SW again amongst like minded fans who actually spoke the same language.

Happy 17th OT.com where we can all talk freely without the blank stares of daily life.

Woah… I’ve been here for a decade now.

Not quite. You’ve less than three months to go. 😛

I’m thinking about officially retiring from ot.com on 30 May. That’ll make my time here exactly ten years to the day I joined. Not the worst way to bow out.

Why you always obsessed with leaving?
Why leave? Stay.

My love for Star Wars is in a coma and Off-Topic’s on life support. Most of the current discussions disinterest me, and the few which do stimulate me quickly fizzle out. So I continue coming here out of habit, taking the piss to pass the time. It’s kinda depressing, actually.

Thanks to everyone for their hard work. The mods for keeping this place going, and all those working to restore and preserve the original theatrical releases of a cultural phenomenon. I own the 4K UHD discs and enjoy them very much, but there is simply an entirely different feeling when I put on my Harmy discs. They are just special. I’m thankful a site like this exists to keep an important piece of history alive.

Just a very quick return from me to post ‘Happy Birthday’ to the OriginalTrilogy•com on this milestone day.

20 years… ‘impressive, most impressive’ - for any website; but especially so for such a site as this… given the very nature of this extraordinary place.

Massive thanks to Jay for making this all possible - from conception, evolution, to his resolution in still being here some 20 years later. Giving us fans of the classic Original Trilogy a place to call home - still administering it all - and all achieved under the nose of the Empire.

Kudos and credit to Zion, Moth3r (RIP), Anchorhead, SilverWook and Tobar - for being custodians of this unique site and giving up their time and energies in helping run this most resolute community over the years.

For everyone who has posted on here over the 20 years; from the petition to the fan projects, from providing technical information to sharing stories and experiences, their insights and experiences with the Galaxy Far Far Away. And those who just simply provided some jokes, laughs and lifted spirits. To the invaluable tech guys and insightful reviewers. The old relentless PIF networkers and project archivists & uploaders. Those who suggested ideas, dreams and projects - many of which were achieved. The countless kind, generous, knowledgeable, humble and gracious posters on here over these past two decades that made this most resolute community what it is.

To borrow a phrase from a well-known Star Wars collecting youtube channel - and also old OT member…

“the fans are doing the best work”.
