Wallace & Gromit in "The Wrong Trousers" - Original Audio Preservation (Released)

Ever since the early 2000s, every release of The Wrong Trousers has had several musical tracks replaced with generic royalty free alternatives, due to copyright issues that were never resolved. For this project, I’ve restored the original audio to this classic short film.

The specific audio clips that have been restored are as follows:

  • The birthday card now plays the “Happy Birthday” song
  • The montage of Gromit trying to sleep now plays “Happy Talk” and “How Much Is That Doggy In The Window”
  • The next morning, Wallace now hums “How Much Is That Doggy In The Window” as he walks by Gromit
  • The small television Gromit watches as he eats his cereal now plays the Open University theme

V2 is a 4.14 GB MKV. It is HD, Blu-ray synced, 25 fps.

Special thanks to alloneword and d00mb0yz96 for audio sources.

SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

I don’t know if thats necessary. The audio track is finished and I doubt the vhs would sound a whole lot better. I’ll take a look at it if you do upload it, though.

There’s also the matter of the audio pitch; with the exception of the Warner/BBC release, all R1 DVDs and the Blu-ray present the original 3 shorts in a lower pitch due to being converted fully to NTSC/24fps. So if you can correct the audio pitch too, that would be great.

There is an Australian Blu Ray called “Wallace & Gromit: The Collection” released by ABC in 2016 that is 1080/50i. It has the same music alterations as other BD/DVD releases but is the highest quality with the correct speed/pitch.

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Wallace-and-Gromit-The-Collection-Blu-ray/160598/

I also managed to grab a TVrip of The Wrong Trousers from UseNet which was recorded from BBC One around Christmas 2007 which has the original audio. One problem with this one though is that it has a voice-over/announcer at the end credits. I don’t have any means of ripping my AUS BD but if anyone wants me to share my BBC TVrip, I’d be happy to upload it somewhere.

I was thinking these two sources could be muxed together without any need to re-pitch anything and create the highest quality version.

I would be grateful if you could upload the TV rip. I could pitch correct the DVD audio and stick it all together.

Cool. It’s uploading now. I’ve compressed to .rar as well. Will PM you when it’s done. Will you be syncing the TVrip audio to the AUS BD?

I don’t have the AUS blu. I was just going to use the DVD source I already have ready.

Could you PM me the link and remove it from the thread? Public links are against the rules and I was being absent minded and didn’t say anything before.

I’ve used the TV rip audio to patch in the edited parts in place of my previous source due to higher quality sound, and I fixed the pitch issue with the DVD audio. The new MKV is now uploading. The VHS rip had too much tape hiss to bother using it.

Well that was the best I can do unless I find an even better VHS Transfer Software If Anyone Would Help Me With It, Dek Rollins It was a Nice Try After All, Do You Agree With It?

Hi all

I am a casual fan of the Wallace and Gromit adventures. I wasn’t aware it was a victim of music cuts (one of my pet hates!)
I have the UK DVD release from 2000. Does anyone know if this is an uncut version? I know it will be the correct framerate, and would be happy to provide a PAL sync to the TV rip if it is required. Ideally the Australian Blu-ray would be the best visual source, but no-one around here seems to have access to it…
