To fix this, I think that the thread should be put in a subtopic that reads in all caps “click here new members”.

Its a pretty clear ‘it would never work unless jay made the site enforce it’ for the new user thread vote.
For the tell others about yourself, i am indifferent, and there were several threads like that in the past, that you could probably start posting in to accomplish the same thing.
