What Didn't You Like About ROTS? — Page 9

I think one word will sum up the PT quite handedly, contrived! Everything was forced instead of developed. Dont get me wrong, my inner-child did his best to enjoy and conjure up the emotions I felt from the OT, but the adult in me saw exactly everything spoken here about it.

The one thing I dislike about the PT? The OT was a galaxy filled mostly with humanoid creatures and a handful of aliens. The PT is a galaxy filled with aliens and a few humanoid creatures. Its like diversity was forced upon us whether or not it added to, or took away from the story. Its almost like they were “token” just to fulfill a wish GL had way back when he created the OT. Dont get me wrong, some scenes worked, but most were, as I stated above, contrived.

I thought those would be considered other races. It’s like this; Hypothetically, I (as an American) am totally fine with people from Japan, but I hate Africans because they’re negro. Just because humanoids are okay, doesn’t mean it’s not racist. The Human race is a thing. We as a whole are a race. Rodians are a race. Hutts are a race.
We shouldn’t get in a big argument about something like this, but I just thought that the usual term would work fine in context.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

It wasnt that I minded so much the diversity, its that it was forced (contrived) to give this image of complexity that didnt need to be done. In the OT, we were introduced to Chewbacca. We didnt need anymore explanation of him for the story to move forward and develop. The Cantina scene was very diverse and it served the story very well. But in the PT, every scene, it seems to me, was hyperbole to keep up this narrative of “a complex, diverse and bustling galaxy” that GL had in his mind when he made the first movies. It was overkill to do it in every scene.

And in the OT, scenes with non humanoids were special. The cantina in SW, Jabba’s palace in ROTJ. It was an event even for the protagonists, not just the audience, to be in these environments.

“Forced” alien diversity is perhaps the weirdest PT complaint I’ve ever heard.

You would think that more alien diversity would get nothing but praise…

The Terminator one works though, as both of those you mentioned are crap-fests.

Am I the only one who enjoyed Genisys?

No, but you should be ashamed for liking such a horrendous movie anyway.

Not enough people read the EU.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I don’t think it helps the movies at all but it doesn’t hurt them. Almost everything else about those movies hurts them.

Grievous’ lightsaber battle is hard to watch, all of the dialogue is terrible and the camera is too close to see what the hell is going on

I always hated how Obi Wan kept pointing at things with his finger when using the force during that duel. It reminded me of the dance scenes from Saturday Night Fever, a much better film.

Obi-Wan denying help is totally out of character. It wasn’t worse enough that he started the duel, trying to kill his “friend”. No, he throws everything over board the jedi order stood for. Helping those who needed help. I’m glad this was left on the cutting room floor.

What I didn’t like about Revenge of the Sith is what I didn’t like about all 3 of the Star Wars prequels and that was all of the blue screen. On the other hand the late, great Sir Christopher Lee was indeed the very best thing about the prequel trilogy.

And at the same time one of the worst things!

All that jumping and leaping about like manic cartoon characters is nuts. I would have liked to have seen the numerous action sequences presented more realistically.

Because there’s actually someone on this planet (maybe) who ranks ROTS ahead of every other SW movie other than the original (yes, even ESB).

That’s me! I’m not blind to the flaws though. I guess what I like about it is it’s pivotal role in galactic history. Everything is so grand, and we see how good became bad, how Chancellor became Emperor, how Republic became Empire, and, of course, how Anakin became Vader. It fails miserably at that last bit, but the rest is handled fine. It’s dark, but not for its own sake. It’s because it had to be. It’s a tragedy, of course it’s gonna be dark, and it manages to convey that darkness beautifully. That’s not to say the film is devoid of lighter moments, though, as the opening rescue mission demonstrates. Yeah, the “humour” isn’t particularly funny, but the atmosphere is still good enough for me to overlook that.

Grievous isn’t completely unecessary, as he does provide someone for Obi-Wan to chase. His four lightsabers are. Might as well have called him General Overkill. Speaking of his name, while yes, it’s not the most inspired, it’s by no means the worst in SW (that honor goes to Savage Opress) and grievous is a word I’ve hardly, if ever heard used in its traditional context, so in practice, the fact that it’s an existing word pretty subtle. Now back to the topic of his four sabers, it’s not like they aren’t cool, but he doesn’t make good use of them, and the movie is already way too crammed with lightsaber duels. Every other film has one or maybe two. This film has five. There’s so many of them they even manage to have two going on at the same time!

Speaking of which, I like the Yoda versus Palpatine duel. Sure, it’s not really important in the grand scheme of things, out-of-universe, since we know both survived and don’t really have any tension between them to resolve. The thing is, it’s just cool to see the two strongest force users in the Galaxy duke it out. Granted, if I’d been in charge, I’d have left out lightsabers altogether and made it an over-the-top shonen-style fight to demonstrate their mastery of the Force. In the end the duel’s short, so it’s not like you have to put with it very long if you don’t like it.

The dialog is awful of course, but at three movies into the Prequels, that’s nothing knew. While “Love won’t save you; only my new powers can do that.” remains the cringiest line I’ve ever heard in anything, the movie at least provides substance to make up for it. Yes, the ending is rushed, and should’ve been better spread out, but what we got isn’t half bad imo. It’s leagues better than the prior installement in the saga.

Yoda with a lightsaber completely spits on his OT character and might be the single worst thing in the PT.
