Now, it’s snowing outside for the first time this year, so I shall take my leave for now 😃

How nice! 😄 Stay clear of wampas.

Got it, NeverarGreat, thanks!

People, your challenge for the day is to pull up the scene where the tech guy tells Hux the weapon will be fully charged in 30 seconds, taking in his voice. Then, record yourself saying, “Weapon reprimed in 30 seconds” at least twenty times and send it to me. I mean you.

The 720p is available in the same places. Due to a hard time crunch on my end for today it is missing 5.1 audio and subtitles.
I’m also not doing a DVD version for V2.

However, all these wrongs will be righted in V2.1 once time is back on our side. 😃
I’m hoping we can finish that by the end of the year. That would be wonderful for me and my stress level, and I don’t see why we couldn’t.

I just checked the Google Drive link and the 720p is not in the folder. It may be possible that it didn’t upload properly unless I am missing something. The only things in the 720p folder are the DS Store file and RTF.

Not a problem, even though I’m not very active on the forums, I have been following your edits since V3 of your prequel trilogy. They have now become my replacement versions. I am looking forward to your cut of TFA. Great work as always!

I’ll channel some inner English and see what I can do.

UPDATE: audio equipment ain’t up to snuff.

Hiring a voice artist could be a good idea.

If there’s going to be a V2.1, it would be cool if you guys could get the “any word from the republic?” line during the briefing scene working. It’s a little weird that it’s not acknowledged.

Really looking forward to seeing this v2 - and will seed the 8gb version for as long as I can.

Although obviously not seen this just yet - I’d just like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all involved - you can certainly see all the hard work, time, energy and the many decisions that have gone into this - just from this thread alone - nice one 😃)

I know I said I’m off the Internet until after I see TLJ, but I just finished watching V2 and I had to comment on it, so now this will be my last post until TLJ!

It’s been a while since I’ve watched TFA, and I haven’t watched Restructured V1 since work began on V2. Holy hell I’d forgotten just how much the restructuring improves the movie, and V2 polishes it to the point where it’s almost indistinguishable from an official theatrical release.

The Maz’s castle sequence is flawless and flows so much better without the tonal dissonance caused by the Starkiller/Hosnian destruction parts. The new VFX shots are seamless, and while Finn’s new line is still the tiniest bit rough, if it had been exactly like that in theaters I wouldn’t have second guessed it at all. Stellar work by Sir Ridley!

The deleted scene is integrated smoothly without damaging the pacing. I agree that it could use one more color pass, and the visual quality does take a mild dip, but it really helps clarify the political situation (helped along by the new crawl, too, which also looks indistinguishable from an officially produced version) - I can’t imagine watching the movie without that scene now.

Same goes for the subtle changes to the Artoo subplot (once again, agree that Threepio SFX are needed there), which I remember being against for this particular edit (though I don’t remember if I ever voiced that opinion). I stand totally corrected when it comes to that. A very subtle, but important difference IMO. I was surprised at how effective I found the recoloring of the firing (now charging) sequence, too.

And of course, the third act has so much more impact now. I thought the repurposed shots during the firing sequence were perfectly integrated, and didn’t notice any awkward slow-motion at all for what it’s worth.

The only critique I have is a technical issue: at least on my media player (watching the 1080p MKV untouched, without the PCM muxed in), the entire sequence of Chewie rescuing Rey and Finn in the Falcon after the lightsaber duel suffers from a choppy/stuttery framerate. Not sure what happened there exactly.

As for the other v2.1/v3 improvements suggested so far, the Kylo hood/mask removal is definitely a good idea, but it’s not immersion-breaking for me. I also do agree that the Republic should be acknowledged in the briefing if that can be done seamlessly.

This (well, the next/final version of this) will absolutely be the closest-to-theatrical version I ever watch again. (Not quite calling it a shelf replacement just yet - Neverar’s Starlight edit still has me very intrigued.)

Stellar work by everybody! 😄 And I get to watch it again tomorrow night with my family - and I’m purposefully going to start it after the fan edit disclaimer just to see if anyone notices it’s different! Muahahahaha…

As we look to Ridley retiming additional shots that had to be slowed down using his technological alchemy, we should take a look at the Starkiller explosion scene. Any shots between, “It is time to complete his training” and the shot of the Falcon and X-wings where they formerly jumped to lightspeed are potentially slowed down very slightly. NeverarGreat carefully matched the necessary length of the music track.

EDIT: I posted this comment before seeing ChainsawAsh’s. Thanks for the feedback, it’s very nice to hear that this is being enjoyed. I’m real proud of the final product, and really will be once we get it produced. 😉
Let us know what your family thinks of it. Especially if there are any strong fans of TFA whom are very familiar with it.

One more suggestion: What about removing 3POs line “It is very doubtful that R2 has the map in his backup data?” I never liked that line considering that R2 in fact has the map in his backup data. And with R2 starting to wake up after BB-8 talked to him, I don’t think this line is needed at all.

I agree but again it might not be the goal of this edit (it was removed in v1 though). Maybe Sir Ridley or Nev are going to remove it in their own edits (edits that I’m also looking forward to watching when available).

You’ve just described V1 and the reasoning behind it. What’s different now is that R2 begins indexing his hard drive, prompted by this conversation.

I haven’t updated that scene yet, so the latest version is still on the Starlight page:

If anyone has suggestions on how it could be made acceptable, I’m all ears 😃

I’m totally OK with this. Hope it will make it into v2.1 😃

It’s a great mockup, but it doesn’t feel genuine to me. Seems like it carries a bit of ‘liability’ for the payoff of not having heard from the Republic. Leia sends her envoy to them a few scenes ago to speak to them in person. Threepio’s line seems to only add confusion. I think this is probably better omitted, though I like the idea in principle, save for Threepio’s line.

Well then, maybe it could be improved by changing 3POs line to something like. “It could be that R2 has the rest of the map in his backup data. If only he would wake up.” BB-8 beeps. “R2 has been in low power mode…” 3PO leaves and BB-8 tries to convince R2 of helping them but leaves as R2 doesn’t react. Then however, R2s lights come on, showing us that he is willing to help.

It’s just that it still feels stupid to me when 3PO basically tells the audience: Nope, R2 can’t help here and then in the end R2 magically (or not quite as magically in this edit) turns up and does help.
