Thank you for reminding about this (it’s been ages since I last touched that book).

The lava planet scene is bad.

I was never a fan of Mustafar, true. In my head-canon I believe this was just a Sith temple (a contrary to Jedha) and his “bunker-castle” is elsewhere and looks just as depicted by McQuarrie.
He was less bulky than Prowse-in-suit, agreed, but I don’t find it glaring (just like I didn’t count how many inches is G.Henry taller than P.Cushing).

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

The lava planet scene isn’t bad because the lava planet is bad. In fact, that might be the only good part about it.

His bulkiness (or lack thereof) is not why he isn’t convincing.

Currently watching this on my projector. Only the third time I’ve watched it. Didn’t particularly like or dislike it the first two times. But they were both plagued with technical problems. At the theater it was 3d and they didn’t turn it on so it was like double visions. The second time at home I didn’t have my computers blu Ray player program set up right and there was lots of dropped frames, worse than ntsc stutter.

This time I’m loving it. And it’s basically as good as seeing it in the theater would have been and I’m so much more immersed this time. Cgi tarkin is kinda lame though. If they had kept the angles more subtle it would have been okay I think.

I wish they had made him look a little better because I love his character and I love his dynamic with Krennic.

Yes. Character/acting wise it’s all great. He just looks iffy.

To be fair, I was told after I watched the movie that he was CGI. If no one had told me, I wouldn’t have known. Leia was a lot more noticeable imo.

I’ve already shared with you my “blind mode” experience of that hallway scene.

Now, try playback at 2/3 speed… for added brutality.

.

BTW, who after watching this scene immediately thought of old McQuarrie’s concept art? Mind you, painted 42 years before R1 was released!

This is by far my favorite R1 poster:

Ha, it took a while for the full resolution to load and I thought it actually looked cooler before it did.

The studios should just commission the internet to do their posters.

Just realized why I didn’t go for the second of jason’s posters. It looks more like a cover for the novelization than the movie.

Same here re a book cover mate - if I’d have seen that at the time I’d have likely used it for part of an inksaver blu ray or dvd cover etc.

Or you could think of them as McQuarrie X-Wings:

It doesn’t help that it looks like Jyn doesn’t hasn’t slept in a week and K2SO is permanently surprised.

He did say Jyn’s behavior is contuinally unexpected. Could see why that’d leave him with that look.

I don’t see either of those things.

I’m not going to go back and read all 3,995 posts in this thread, so I apologize if what I’m about to say has been said before. I loved Rogue One. I saw it two days after Carrie collapsed and one day before she passed. I cried.

I really loved all the subtle nostalgia as opposed to the slegehammer-to-your-fucking-temple nostalgia of TFA and I really came here to say this…

My feeling on this has only increased with subsequent viewings, but I cannot help but think Gareth Edwards was paying MAJOR homage to Spaceballs with Rogue One. There are so many callbacks its hard to count them all. From the obvious like the planet shield and shieldgate to more subtle elements like the shield code scene (I was on the edge of my seat waiting for “1-2-3-4-5”). There’s more, but I have to go back and think again.

One thing that annoyed me though is during the Mustafar scene. No, not the “choke on your ambitions” line itself, but rather how Vader had his head cocked up-and-back. It just seemed like such non-Vader body language and motion. I know they changed actors for Vader in Rogue One, but I cannot imagine David Prowse portraying Vader with that kind of motion.

Yes, first-world problems and major nerd nitpicking. Sue me.

Han Shot. Period.

Huh?
