Posted more about it in the collectibles sub forum a few weeks ago, but I built a Bandai 1/12 Stormtrooper model recently.
There are some pretty ingenious and cool Star Wars fans undertaking various intriguing fan-made projects out there - so thought it may be worth having a thread for such labours of love that catch the eye of us lot on here.
Not just the superb Preservation, Fan Edit and other various audio/video endeavours & fan art/covers that are undertaken on here in many threads in the other sections of the site (and similar other sites) - yet a thread here for projects like droid-building, models, lightsabers, hacks or mods, curiosities, knickknacks, gadgets, and the like…
Came across this pretty cool video earlier - someone built a pretty sweet mouse droid…

Well, only the Stormtrooper was a model kit. The rest are regular action figures.

That’s amazing, I’ve always wondered how people do that kind of detailed pumpkin art. And they used one of the X-wing novel covers as the template. I’ve always thought the mid-nineties novel and comic covers were some of the best EU art ever produced!

Colin Furze builds a metal landspeeder that drives…
(the guy has previously built AT-ACTs and TIEs etc - and some truly mad non-Star Wars stuff; bunkers, underground beach huts, bikes that shoot fireworks, rocket launchers, jet swings, homemade hoverbikes, jet powered scooters, remote control trash cans, etc) 😃

I’m going to a Star Wars themed New Years Eve party (as a Rebel operative) and I decided to spend the afternoon on this little project. Happy with how it came out, but I’d like to try again with my childhood blaster from the 90s at some point and really take my time.

Bandai kits are wonderful. The engineering, detail, quality, everything is top notch. They are made to be snap-fit kits but sometimes you’ll find a piece that would be better off glued. They are molded in generally the correct colors so they advertise as not needing paint. But they are true model kits and, in my opinion, still need to be painted. They also benefit from some minor seam filling and sanding where necessary.
But they are tons of fun. If you have any interest at all I say go for it!
Thanks for your reply! Sounds good to me then! I wouldn’t have an issue with modifying these kits to my liking, whether having to apply glue, paint and/or sanding. This might the start of a new collection.

^ If I understand this right… no wonder there are so few Star Wars figures, vehicles and sets etc on store shelves… when the likes of Hasbro run a ‘Hasbro Pulse Premium’ scheme where fans pay them a fee every year for just the access to the possibility of buying some of their content directly online. Apparently demand near-on always exceeds supply for this - resulting in many premium products selling out in seconds…? Leaving many members of the Hasbro Pulse Premium online order scheme out of pocket with nothing to show for their annual subscription.
It seems akin to paying an annual fee… just to be able to browse.
To say nothing of Hasbro cutting costs and increasing profits by selling products direct online - rather than having to ship / transport to distributors or stores (and giving such outlets their cut of the pie, or not, going on the amount of empty shelves at many stores) - leaving fans with little option other than to pay this annual membership fee to join an already-over subscribed scheme.
Or the numerous scalpers out there.
Fair play to the custom-made / fan-made services providing Star Wars figures, vehicles and sets out there - especially given the current situation and somewhat sad state of the official merchandise (and inability / lack of will to get them onto store shelves).
