Edit: 29th October, 2017…

An updated Project Index list can now be found here - http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1042669 - in Page 3 of this thread.

The new and updated ‘Project Index’ - ‘A new Star Wars Project Index thread : Preservations, Fan Edits, Audio Projects, Fan Documentaries, Technical/Quality Improvements, and How To’s etc’ - can be found here:-

http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/A-new-Star-Wars-Project-Index-thread-Preservations-Fan-Edits-Audio-Projects-Fan-Documentaries-TechnicalQuality-Improvements-and-How-Tos-etc/id/57297

If you are new to the OriginalTrilogy•com then the following info may be of some assistance…

The Welcome to the OT.com; Introduce yourself in here thread is just that; a place to make your first post on here - and for more longstanding members to welcome new additions to our community.

Secondly, the About and Help sections may be of interest to you regarding this site and what the OriginalTrilogy•com is about.

Thirdly, the ‘How do I do this?’ on the OriginalTrilogy.com - some info & answers to members’ queries thread should also hopefully be of some help as to many of the functions of the site, along with other related info as well.

The Announcements Section - including Site Rules & Guidelines, Fan Edit & Preservation Rules & FAQ, as well info for Signatures, Linking Policy for Downloads, and Plot Spoiler Policy (and much more) that may be of use too.

If you are having any issues with the site, have a question, an idea to improve the site, or would like to give some feedback - then these can be done in the Feedback Forum and General Assistance sections.

There are also several Index Threads pinned at the top of many respective sections of the OT•com - which may help members find various topics of discussion, fan edits, preservations and other projects etc.

To Join the OT.com Discord server! click on the link. There is also the OriginalTrilogy.com Twitter too.

'An OriginalTrilogy.com timeline thread - a history of the site and why & how it came to be…’ chronicles both the history of this site & also it’s continuing evolution.

The ‘Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes’ thread by doubleofive contains many sources of information as to the numerous changes made to the Original Trilogy films over time - as well as serving as an insightful and comprehensive discussion thread and reference point on the subject.

And, the ‘George Lucas: Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist…’ thread attempts to highlight and catalogue some of the revisionism, altering of history and contradictory claims by George Lucas / Lucasfilm as to the formation, planning and history of the Star Wars films and universe therein.

Finally, the A celebration of the Original Trilogy | Some informative threads | How you can help… thread - highlighting just a few of the many discussion threads on this site focusing on countless fans’ love and appreciation for the Original Trilogy - and ongoing dedication in attempting to achieve a modern, high quality, official release of the unaltered theatrical version of the classic Star Wars movies.

A quick reminder that the Star Wars Preservation and Star Wars Fan Edit sections of the site are NOT the places to bash on certain eras or aspects of the films, actors, film-makers or owners - or any perceived ‘agendas’ or politics thereof.

There are far more relevant threads in the Beyond the Original Trilogy or General Star Wars Discussion sections of the site to talk about this.

Critiquing a scene in the Star Wars Fan Edits section with the aim of improving it, removing it, altering it etc is perfectly fine. Statements such as ‘Disney sucks’ and ‘this film is so shit no Fan Edit can save it’ and so on, are not.

Fan Editors, Preservationists and members do not want the same sort of repeated comments and discussions in the ‘Fan Project’ areas - especially when they’ve already taken place (and continuing) in other more relevant sections of the site, as linked to above.

Looking to acquire projects on here? Then please read this…

(and take the time to look around to see how this place works - and doesn’t - before posting requests for projects on here - thank you)

A fair few people join here for a particular Preservation Project, Fan Edit, documentary, blu ray or dvd cover etc. We ask that those who do… also have a look around; see if there are other Projects, Edits or works of interest to your liking. To give the Star Wars discussion threads a read through, or those in the Off Topic sections. To have a think about becoming a part of the community here; and consider not becoming a one-time poster… asking for a link to a project and to never be seen again.

Many of the projects on here have been undertaken by volunteers or enthusiasts who’ve devoted considerable time, effort, dedication and some expense… to locate, preserve, restore & archive - or edit - films and TV programs in their best possible presentation. This is often with painstaking commitment - yet all projects are available for free; not to mention our members also improving upon & sharing techniques, knowledge, technical assistance, experiences - and a few stories, along the way.

Joining up here and then creating a new thread along the lines ‘Give me the link to X’, ‘Where is project Y’, or going straight into a project thread and posting ‘How do I get these?’ doesn’t really fly on here - and will likely be ignored or deleted. Taking the time to learn about a project - by reading through the project thread - as well as how to acquire them; simply making an effort to be part of the community here, and how this place works, even if just leaving feedback for acquired projects, can go a long way…

NOTE: Many editors & preservationists choose not to make their projects available to ‘hit & runners’ or people with a post history of mainly asking for many projects - which is completely up to them. That some people join up here looking to simply take - instead of give something back; not even leaving a simple ‘thank you’, feedback or review, or join in with the community here - and instead move on to asking for more projects… is not encouraged. As above, such requests may likely be ignored.

I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation Project I am interested in - but don’t know how to get / acquire / download it?

Now THAT"S a tread that should be pinned, if all others get un-pinned tomorrow.
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Oh yes, if anyone else thinks there is another thread that should be included, let me know and I'll edit the list.
(Unless it's Spider's set - that's a deliberate omission )

I have an ongoing project called "Ep. II:Shroud of the Dark Side" in the General SW forum; not sure if there's any interest in that here, though.

Emperor Jar-Jar
“Back when we made Star Wars, we just couldn’t make Palpatine as evil as we intended. Now, thanks to the miracles of technology, it is finally possible. Finally, I’ve created the movies that I originally imagined.” -George Lucas on the 2007 Extra Extra Special HD-DVD Edition

Carried out a big update to this 4 year old list today. Still some more projects that could do with being added.

There are a lot of projects where we have a discussion thread on the forum, but no specs or details on the wiki (and it's unlikely there ever will be, as interest in these older projects is minimal these days). The best resource for details on these projects would be Russ's Galactic Trade Federation site.

I'm looking for a fan-edit that simply takes the 2006 GOUT DVD9 (preferably PAL), leaves everything intact (including existing audio), but adds the 5.1 surround track from the 97SE LDs.

Obviously you'd have to edit the AC3 track a little to accommodate changes like Han shooting first, but those should be very minor differences.

I'm not much of an A/V editor so I wouldn't know how to do this myself (well adding the track might be easy, but editing it and syncing I can't do), so if anyone could do this I would be very grateful.

Cheers.

I was considering doing something of that sort, but pretty much abandoned the idea because frankly, it's just too much of a pain.  Not only are there overt editing differences, but apparently, there are missing frames every time an optical composite was re-done for the special edition.  You'd have to upmix and patch in sections of the '93 mix for places where the edit was changed as well.  Considering that even different audio mixes of the original versions don't easily synch to each other, one so altered won't be made to fit the original film without a lot of tedious work.  It could be done, of course, and I would be interested in such a thing if it was, but it would be difficult.

The '97 mix does sound rather good in 5.1, but I think ultimately I still prefer the '93 version since it is closer to the original 70mm mix, and has greater dynamic range and sound quality.

Wow, that link has been wrong since 2005 and no-one ever noticed!

Link now corrected, thanks.

I remember watching a documentary a few weeks ago about the release of the Special Editions - it consisted of interviews with people lining up on opening night. Star Wars or Bust is very similar. Does anyone know the name of this documentary?

Interesting... so it's just PT Yoda speak the whole time?

It's a direct read of the 'backstroke of the west' subtitles.  The most impressive part is most of the non-dialog sounds seem intact.  Check out chapter 25 towards the end, the music sounds like a match and even R2's beeps are there.

Inside job perhaps?

I'm looking for a good version of Return of the Jedi that is anamorphic and doesn't have the cgi Sy Snoodles in it (and is not in Blu-Ray b/c I don't have one.)

Any suggestions?

dark_jedi's GOUT-sourced Custom DVD

Either wait for v3, or look for the previous version that has already been completed.

So... I'm new.  I've looked through the forums and can't seem to figure out which preservation/custom is generally regarded as the truest replication.  Is there one that most members agree is the best or is it highly debatable and strictly a matter of personal taste?

No blasters!  No blasters!

It is debatable and a matter of opinion, but I recommend you obtain G-Force's ANH, Adywan's theatrical restoration/recreation of ESB, and dark_jedi's ROTJ if you want the best that is currently available in terms of theatrical versions.  Keep an eye out for dark_jedi's new versions: they will be released soon.

Was there any efforts to have all DVD covers and labels of all releases ?
