Greetings from Wookie Groomer; Split Screen News
Hello,
Some of you may have been watching the NG's and grabbing my split screens as they are made available. I wanted to inform you that a newly fixed Empire Strikes Back has been rendering for a few days and will be done very soon. I plan to up the newly fixed Empire in a matter of days. I originaly used Dr. Gonzo's as the 1980 version and it was nothing but trouble to work with. I now used the TR47 version and all seemed to edit smoothly. I would also like to revisit the original New Hope split screen and redo it with the original crawl edition posted as the "Mysterious Mysteries" edition and provide the 3rd audio track as a split mono just like on Empire and Jedi.
Any feedback regarding the split screens would be appreciated.

Sounds ideal. You're one of the few people to have done something wholly unique (and yet without a lot of fanfare). That's cool. As I've said before, I'm a big fan. Nice to see you turn up here. Hope it proves to be less frustrating than Usenet.

Question Everything
Greetings from Wookie Groomer; Split Screen News
I really liked what you did with this project. Of course, most of us can rattle off the major changes made to the '04 dvds, but I never saw a lot of the little changes. Sequences were slightly trimmed, or slight color adjustment was made, kind of makes you wonder why Lucas changed those things, but not the glaring problems...alas, another gripe for another day.
Do you think that it is still necessary to include the water-mark in the video? I know I would appreciate it if you decided not to include it this time. Just a request.
I really can't think of anything else that you could improve on with this set. I think you did a great job and I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of the trilogy.
Thanks for putting this together!

Welcome to the boards, WookieGroomer! I've got your first version of ANH and, man, was that a trip. Like Rebel 11_38, I never noticed a bunch of little changes, the face of the Masassi Temple most notably. I'm really looking forward to the new discs.

Hey Wookie Groomer, just wanted to let you know that what you've done with the OT DVDs is great!
While I don't have any feedback for you(sorry) as I haven't seen any of 'em yet (only have dial-up), I instantly loved the idea when someone here described your project. I haven't seen the 2004 editions and until now have had no intention of watching them, but with what you've done, you've put a whole new light on all the new changes so now I can't wait to see 'em (and prove definitively the changes just don't hold up to the originals).
Bravo sir, and keep up the great efforts!
(p.s. just out of curiosity, what does NG mean?)
The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!

I'm totally looking forward to not only the ESB and ROTJ projects, but the Mysterious Mysteries ANH as well. I just watched the current ANH and loved the comparison shots. This is a brilliant educational piece.

The sample is working for me on two stand-alone PAL DVD players as well as with all software on two PC's.
The original version would not work in Windows Media player or PowerDVD. No issues this time.
Hopefully everyone will be as lucky this time..........

For the revised Star Wars disc you should download the mono track and put that on the disc.

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Or alternatively the original version of what we now know as as the "Mysterious Mysteries" edition which contains the mono, Dolby Stereo and matrixed 6 channel soundtracks, should this version ever become widely available.
However, just seeing the original and "A New Hope" crawls, one on top of the other, will be more than enough for me.............

I have to admit, I am a Star Wars fan but not to the extreme that most on these forums seem to be. Because I don't keep on top of the original Star Wars stuff I have a question. The mono track on the mysterious mysteries edition, is it the same as the pal mono track that was posted individually? I may consider adding a mono track to the final version of pre-ANH split screen if it is different or truly the original mono track. Is there a true original trilogy Star Wars available besides the mysterious mysteries edition? Any input?

There is the XP77:4EB.1 which is the mono mix derived from that PAL audio track, applied to the Mysterious Mysteries edition. </SHAMELESS>

The elusive "other" version of the Mysterious DVD is rumoured to have the mono mix, I would guess that it was sampled from the telecine pre-ANH bootleg VHS.
The PAL soundtrack I posted was sampled from a VHS recording of a UK TV broadcast, and unfortunately the recording is missing several seconds from the beginning and end, and has gaps in the track where the ad breaks were. But apparantly the audio quality is better (of what's left, anyway!)
From what I've seen, the soundtrack on the bootleg pre-ANH and the UK TV broadcast are the same. This mix was never on a home video release.

Just read again the comments from the creators of the mysterious version, and the bootleg telecine VHS apparantly has sections of audio missing from the reel changes.
So who wants to edit together both copies to create a complete soundtrack?

A quick question for Wookie Groomer..........
After all the trouble you had with the original Empire splitscreen using the Dr Gonzo Empire, when it came to Jedi, did you stick with the Dr Gonzo Jedi or revert to the TR47 Jedi.
I recall reading at the time that you had problems but not how you cured the problems.

Thanks for that although I suspected that is what you had done in the end.
A big Thank You from me for all your work so far and looking forward to the pre-ANH splitscreen should you ever get around to it.
Back to the issue of the two Mono soundtracks that are out there at the moment.
Just read again the comments from the creators of the mysterious version, and the bootleg telecine VHS apparantly has sections of audio missing from the reel changes.
So who wants to edit together both copies to create a complete soundtrack?
Does anyone actually have both the original version of what we now know as as the "Mysterious Mysteries" edition for the Mono soundtrack and the other recently done Mono soundtrack discussed elsewhere on this board.
In the hands of the right people, I am sure that an edit to give a complete soundtrack could be done.

DarthOsor, thanks for the helpful link. I've been wanting to learn more about the newsgroups. I'm a bit torrent guy and I've been thinking its time for a change.
Wookie Groomer, I just want to thank you for creating this masterpiece and making it available to the fans. I have already watched this DVD several times. It is truly a remarkable work of film history preservation. I plan on giving copies to all my friends. This DVD is a must see for SW fans everywhere. Best of luck with your future projects.
