^ That’s all very well, Mala. Though how can you put Star Wars behind you… not knowing your true feelings and rankings for the one and true Prequel Trilogy - the Holiday Special, Caravan Of Courage and Battle For Endor?!

😉

ahah true 😄

For ranking those I’m waiting to watch them as they have always been intended, ie as a “Jedi supercut” (ROTJ + The ewok movies) and a “Death Star Supercut” (Rogue One, ANH and the Holiday special): when they exist in their final form just ping me 😃

I’ll still watch the new tv series beig released because they mostly are quite entertaining and kinda fun; just saying that after trying one last time the ST - with ery nice fanedits: starligh, legendary and ascendant, which represent almost perfect cuts of each entry - I’m a bit burnt with it and I’l leave to rest for a hile the original hexalogy; I have seen them so many times I need to wait a few years before revisiting them.

I look forward to that ‘Death Star Supercut’ one day, too.

I would have mentioned 2008’s theatrical The Clone Wars film, but…

👍

Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Return Of The Jedi
Rogue One
The Last Jedi
Solo
The Force Awakens
The Phantom Menace
The Rise Of Skywalker
Revenge Of The Sith
Attack Of The Clones

I do like watching the SWHS sometimes. The 2 Ewok movies as well, but I find it difficult to give all three any ratings.

All right, it’s been a while since I’ve tried one of these ranking things, and there’s been a new show recently (which I’m surprisingly impressed by) so here goes:

  1. Star Wars '77
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. The Mandalorian S1
  4. Return of the Jedi
  5. Rogue One
  6. The Book of Boba Fett (so far)
  7. The Last Jedi
  8. The Mandalorian S2
  9. Revenge of the Sith
  10. Solo
  11. The Force Awakens
  12. The Phantom Menace
  13. The Rise of Skywalker
  14. Attack of the Clones
  15. The Holiday Special

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

I have watched bits and pieces of those, but I’ve never watched entire series (with the exception of 2D Clone Wars), so I figured I could only really give accurate rankings for the live-action stuff.

I don’t want to consider either the Sequels or the other films created under the Disney direction of Lucasfilm, except Rogue One. So my ranking will include only the 6 original films created by George Lucas and Rogue One. My ranking will have a descending order, and it will go from the movie I like the most to the one I like the least.

  1. Revenge of the Sith
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. Attack of the Clones
  4. Rogue One
  5. The Phantom Menace
  6. Return of the Jedi
  7. A New Hope

I think the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy are on the same level, I don’t like one more than the other. But, individually, I like the Prequel Trilogy films more than the Original Trilogy ones, mainly because the Original Trilogy films have aged rather badly in my opinion. Besides, I disagree with many of the criticisms of the Prequels.

My current rankings.

Skywalker Saga:

The Phantom Menace
Return of the Jedi
Revenge of the Sith
A New Hope
Attack of the Clones
The Empire Strikes Back
The Last Jedi
The Rise of Skywalker
The Force Awakens

Spinoffs:

Rogue One
Solo

TV Series:

The Clone Wars
Rebels

It’s always difficult to rank George’s six films as I feel they form a collective whole and knowing where to place The Empire Strikes Back is very difficult. It may have one of my favourite sequences in all of the series with Yoda training Luke but I am finding I connect more overall to the full story told in Attack of the Clones at the moment. My rankings are subject to change again in the future but right now that’s what I’m thinking.

The Disney era and TV series have stayed consistently the same in terms of rankings. Rogue One is growing into my favourite film of the Disney era while The Clone Wars is such a treasure trove of new spins on Star Wars. It’s exciting and engaging to watch. I especially loved the arc with Aayla Secura and the pacifists that I saw awhile back. The series makes me miss George even more though. So it’s truly a double bladed lightsaber. I do enjoy The Rise of Skywalker slightly more than I did before but it’s still behind The Last Jedi as the best film in its trilogy.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

  7. The Force Awakens
  8. The Phantom Menace

Looking forward to seeing where upcoming series such as Obi-wan Kenobi fall on this list.

I think doing a book/comic ranking would be too difficult for me so I won’t even attempt it.

  6. Solo
  7. The Force Awakens
  8. The Phantom Menace
  9. The Last Jedi
  10. Attack of the Clones
  11. The Rise of Skywalker

Wow, this was my exact ranking for a long time.

Having rewatched some of the movies, and given them some more thought, my ranking is now:

  1. Star Wars (ANH)
  2. ESB
  3. RotJ
  4. RotS
  5. Rogue One
  6. TPM
  7. Solo
  8. TLJ
  9. AotC
  10. TRoS
  11. TFA
  12. TCW 08

I’ve bumped up Solo from second-to-last place. On second viewing, my opinion of the movie improved.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

Same happened with me! After first seeing it in the cinema I was pretty indifferent about it and didn’t go back, but rewatched it a couple years later and it really grew on me.

  1. ROTS/TESB - Revenge of the Sith is the campiest of all Star Wars films. It’s the cheesiest, but the most awesome kind of cheese. It is dark and it is funny. It is fast. Not a moment to lose. And it’s awesome. And the way Anakin turned, to save Padme, I don’t think anybody other than Lucas could have thought of that kind of a thing in a Star Wars film. The film looks awesome too, in its own way. And it’s been my fav since childhood. TESB, it’s looks the best out of the original six, and the way it continued the story is awesome. And it’s the least campy out of the six. It has the widest “appeal” I guess. I mainly love it for how inventive it is as a sequel.

  2. ROTJ - That, I was a bit torn. I don’t know whether put to this first or Rogue One, but I chose this, since the last act really send the other to ashes. I will say this, ain’t inventive as the predecessors, but a damn good ending. You can say, it’s kind of like my nostalgic favorite.

  3. RO - I have a soft spot for films, no matter the story, that look visually beautiful. This one does. And the way it manages to explain why for heaven’s sake Death Star happened to have this flaw is great. The performances are the best of all Star Wars films too, I will say. Was kind of skeptical after TFA, but this managed to convince me about the direction Disney was taking. (Never saw Rebels).

  4. TPM - I feel like the film attracted a lot of vitriol for how different it was from the existing Star Wars. I can’t see the performances or the characters any less memorable than the OT ones. It has a more pronounced East Asian influence, I am particularly talking about the look. And the film looks beautiful too. And I feel like it’s Lucas’ most self-indulgent film, and sort of reminds me of THX-1138. It’s slower, very unconventional way to start a story like this like that. But I appreciate it for that. Not to mention that the special effects hold up really well, and have their own quality to it. I always loved this film. I never minded Binks either. Only the slapstick was dumb. It might not have the same “drive” or attractive factor as the others ranked higher, but as a film itself, it works beautifully, especially if you’re into it.

  5. ANH - This is the first. If this wasn’t successful in what it did, Star Wars, maybe, just maybe, wouldn’t have been what it is. For how significant it is as a film, I can’t deny that. I will admit I never used to see it much as a kid, maybe, I thought it was kind of barebones. Great film, though.

  6. Solo - The first time around felt like barebones, and grew on me later. Happened with many, I guess. The overall story might be low stakes, and I felt they delved too much to the “details”. But the performances are very good too, but the film looks sorta drab. But a pretty average film in itself.

  7. AOTC - The story is more driving than TPM, but the script could have been polished. Lucas’ attempts at Shakespearean dialogue just falls flat on it’s face, but unintentional comedy abounds. The rest is pretty good. Isn’t as well crafted though.

  8. TFA - I was disappointed the very first time I saw it. It’s like, you have a story in three acts, and the two acts pass by, and the third act comes and shits all over the rest. To put it simply, everybody is back to square one. This ain’t a way to continue a story. And also, I don’t think I should judge a film by how technically “good” it is.

  9. TLJ - Again, a very “well-made” film. But it didn’t have creativity enough to write a story on it’s own. Very similar to Empire, but the same plot beats, inverted, and voila! How original it is. I am surprised people failed to notice. I expected something new after the ANH-copy that was TFA, but it ended up a “twisted” TESB. And I have no problem with Luke as a hermit. But a lot of philosophy of his is giving lip-service to all what happened in the prequels, but some of them lost to catch on that. This is a good decision, but not the decision of him trying to kill Ben, even by “mistake”. The film whole feels like it was written with “be bold and surprising” in mind, but without baking the whole thing well. And it comes off as lazy the way it’s written.

  10. TROS - Palpy’s back! I dunno.

As for the TV shows, I don’t know where I’d put them. I never watched CG CW, and Rebels, or Resistance, just heard some of what they did and it sounds good. I watched the Tartakovsky one, I watched Visions, and the two live-action shows. All of which I liked. Mando would be there somewhere around top. Boba would be above Solo, but below ANH, I guess. I can’t rank the cartoons, though.

I say this to a lot of people, but I highly, highly recommend the animated series. Rebels and the final arc of Clone Wars are my two favourite things that Disney has done with Star Wars. It sounds like you would really like them.
