Carrie Fisher Interview - Star Wars - 1977

https://youtu.be/Yyrdqpep1pM

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

I’m unsure why he gave the sled skis instead of repulsors. I mean, sure, it has skis on set, but that’s presumably just so it could be pulled around. I don’t see any greebling on the skis and in universe, it looks like it would use standard speeder technology.

Well, there are vehicles in the SW universe that use both wheels and tank-treads, so I guess he figured why not? Plus, I suppose it could still use repulsors of some kind to propel it.

Also, there’s this exchange between Han and the Deck Officer in ESB explaining why they use Tauntauns;
“Are the speeders ready?”
“Not yet. We’re having some trouble adapting them to the cold.”

“Inside The Star Wars Empire: A Memoir” by Bill Kimberlin’:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB-nVCcde7U - a 17 minute video at the Bill Kimberlin youtube channel

The blurb…

‘“Inside The Star Wars Empire: A Memoir” by Bill Kimberlin. My twenty years working for George Lucas and the third of the original Star Wars series…“Return of the Jedi.” This is the inside story.’

^ A most intriguing watch - especially around 8 minutes in - with Bill Kimberlin talking about that George didn’t want a duplicate master of the prints made for the Original Trilogy before work started on the 1997 Special Edition… that the 1997 Special Edition was, according to Lucas, “this is going to be original version - what I am doing now” (aka ‘The Final Cut’ as later described by George).

Bill Kimberlin does also later state there are other prints of the unaltered theatrical version of the Original Trilogy still in existence.

There are also some quality and rarely seen photos featuring in this video - well worth a viewing.

Bill Kimberlin comes across as a very interesting guy - his book Inside The Star Wars Empire: A Memoir is probably a decent read too…

The expendable design makes more sense, and is in line with the philosophy of the Empire military! I had always found the hyperdrive ring on the Jedi fighter kinda stupid: if it gets destroyed after you leave it behind, you become stranded and have to call for help…

I though it just stayed in orbit or in deep space until the fighter returned? Or is that an EU thing maybe? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen/read that the fighters can return and use them again.

Yeah leaving the ring floating in space always seemed like a dumb idea. Like they wanted to make it retro but not any less functional? On the TIE I think the guy makes great designs and renders… but it doesn’t work for me. I prefer to see the fighter as a tool for ensuring total dependency.

Perhaps they were saying that enemy forces could destroy the rings, not that they are single-use.

As for the concept, I think it’s neat to be able to shed excess weight for increased maneuverability, something that Jedi pilots would probably prefer. I also think there are plenty of ways these rings would be beneficial in a military engagement, especially if the fighters were part of a strike force containing larger ships. The rings could be left adrift around the larger vessels or even remotely operated in order to draw enemy fire. Any hit on the disposable rings would be one less hit on the large vessel.

Even on its own, a hyperspace ring would probably be difficult to track down by enemy forces if left in high orbit or deep space because of its low/nonexistent power signature - they’d basically have to be searching for what amounts to random debris, which is again more time with their attention drawn away from the real Jedi threat.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Yeah he’s still going, he released this today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY4mNIPmNnw

Is it me or have certain SW related channels got squashed by the algorithm and have next to no views? Jamie Stangroom has the same problem, but that could be because he tried to rebrand everything and add other types of content too often.
