Star Wars Theory's Darth Vader Fan Series

So either I’m an idiot or there isn’t a thread for Star Wars Theory’s Darth Vader Fan Series, which surprises me a little but ok.

I was incredibly impressed upon my first viewing of this film and it’s still a feast for my eyes. The special effects are top notch for a fan-film and a lot of it honestly looks professional. I also think the dialogue, acting, costumes, music, and sets are really great. The only slight thing that bugs me is references to old Legends canon like Vader losing potential (though this was probably just Palpatine telling him that to intensify his anger, and saying that he won’t achieve his potential if he doesn’t completely let go of Padme and his old life) and the Palpatine keeping him trapped in his suit, when the new canon comics make it clear that Vader didn’t lose any of his force potential, being even more powerful then Anakin, and he can modify and improve his suit to his liking. And I do recall Theory saying he wants this series to fit in with canon. But these are very minor nitpicks.

I’m very hyped for episode 2 in which we will see Vader fight Mace Windu and a slew of other Jedi, which will be great, I’ve always wanted to see Vader duel more Jedi to showcase how powerful of a duelist he is.

Even if Disney doesn’t recognize it as canon, this series is so good I consider it to be a part of my personal canon (along with my personal fan-edits).

The man has a patreon for his many channels - carefully wording his videos as to give the impression any patreon monies will not be used for his Vader fan films. Which in turn seems also an advert for them; along the lines of ‘I can’t ask directly for you guys to fund my fan film - but you can instead donate to my channels here, and also buy merch for the fan film / my channels - links are listed here’

His new fan films, he claims, are going to have higher production values than before, larger scale, more actors etc - and really wants to let you know he badly wants a house - but will forgo that to do these films - and then mentions to donate to his patreon and buy merch based on the fan film (and his other stuff)…

My Final Decision with the Channel’ - 17 minute ‘Vader fan film Ep II announcement’ youtube video:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sywiXbm3-c (the comments are worth checking out)

As others have previously said, he threw a hissyfit when Warner Chappell claimed he was using a very similar version of ‘The Imperial March’ music in his first Vader Fan Film - of which Warner Chappell own the licencing rights to.

Instead of doing what most fan film editors or fan editors would do, and remove the offending short piece of music - or replace it, he used the situation to kick up a massive long-running furore over it, which he documented in a series of youtube videos and social media posts… as a massive PR stunt for himself and his fan film.

(Which he repeatedly let everyone know cost a LOT of his money, to the point where it seemed he was hinting at/asking for money to cover his outlay? ‘I’ve spent a lot of money on this fan film, by the way, here is my patreon and merch’ type of statements)

His previous claims as to being in communication with Lucasfilm and other companies are apparently without any proof or copies of the supposed correspondence. He was also seemingly caught out referring to non-Star Wars companies as being ‘Lucasfilm’ or ‘Disney’, and incorrectly claiming Disney as being the company that had made the claim on the music used in his video - where it was music licensees Warner Chappell. Still, who needs facts when you’re chasing clicks, fame, ad-revenue?, and promoting your content? (cough)

He was very clever throughout; a lot of hearsay, claims and emotions - with appeals aimed to those who have issues with Disney / modern Star Wars / SJWs? etc - but provided no proof of communications with Lucasfilm, Disney or other companies he claimed he was in correspondence with, at all.

Many others didn’t believe his claims too, though he has done quite well out of them.

Though that’s just my two cents on it.

And now he’s back for more? Hopefully he won’t be creating dramas promoting his fan film this time around, but I wouldn’t bet on against it. Though if this Vader II fan film is as average as the first one, he’ll likely need something to take the focus of its ‘mehness’.

btw - there are some cool fan films in that thread ooj linked to - and also an index of fan films with individual threads on here too 😃

I don’t know. I didn’t like the fan film in the first place, so I might be biased, but I do agree that Star Wars Theory is a pretty scummy guy.

I couldn’t care less about the artist. But the art, to be blunt, is overhyped pablum, and I have zero interest in any followups.

So… should I feel bad for liking it and being hyped for part 2?

Nope.

You like it and hyped? Cool.

My post was just a ‘heads-up’ (for anyone who doesn’t know about it) as to what the fan film guy did for his first Vader fan film.

And how he is promoting funding for his 2nd film; ‘I can’t crowdfund Vader Part 2, but it is going to a lot big bigger and detailed than Vader Part 1 which cost me a lot of money… [cough] but please use patreon to fund my channels and buy my merch’. (paraphrasing from his video linked above).

Just curious, as someone who liked it to people who didn’t like it, what were your problems with the fan-film? I’m talking not about the creator or any controversy, but just the product itself.

I had a lot of problems. The opening dream sequence was ludicrously over-the-top, the dialogue was terrible, and Mace Windu’s survival was a ridiculous concept. In my opinion, it’s everything wrong with prequel fans’ interpretation of Star Wars.

Really? If you’re talking about the stuff Vader does then its just the Rogue One hallway scene but with Clone Troopers and Vader stopping the blaster bolts with the force, while also choking the Emperor. Vader’s shown stronger feats in the comics.

And besides, it’s a dream.

What lines did you find offensive? I actually thought it really fits the universe and characters.

Alright, I can see why someone would think that. Jedi tend to be really good with falling from great heights, but it is completely subjective.

What’s being misinterpreted here? The only thing I can think of is Vader being less cold and more attached, but I think the intent of this fan-film was to show HOW he went from more emo to the cold dark lord we see in the OT.

No attack on your opinion is meant here, I’m just curious to see what you mean.

Like I said, ludicrously over-the-top. There’s just too many things happening at the same time. I don’t care if it’s a dream, I still don’t like it.

It’s in character, but it’s really on-the-nose. Most of Palpatine’s lines are just “You’re conflicted, Vader” said in a thousand different ways.

But there were no convenient air vents on Coruscant for Windu to grab hold of, and he was being electrocuted at the same time. It seems like Windu would just be splatter on the window of someone’s speeder.

Yeah, I was thinking of that too. I understand why Star Wars Theory liked TROS, at least until he realized he was supposed to hate it.
