Project Luminous has been mentioned for a long while now - since around April of 2019.

Charles Soule, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, Justina Ireland and Claudia Gray are the main people involved in the project - so it has potential for some high quality work.

Details finally emerged on the project today, with ‘Project Luminous’ being revealed to be the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing campaign (books and comics). More information can be found below…

In short (the blurb from the above Star Wars website article)

'Later this year, Lucasfilm will launch an epic new era of Star Wars storytelling that will be explored through multiple voices in adult and young adult novels, children’s books, and comics from a variety of publishers including Disney Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, IDW Publishing, and Marvel.

Star Wars: The High Republic, which has previously been referred to as “Project Luminous”, will be set in an era when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their zenith, about 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. This period on the Star Wars timeline will not overlap any of the filmed features or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners a vast amount of room to tell Star Wars stories with new adventures and original characters.’

So this is actually the High Republic, a collection of books and comics set in a new era 200 years before the prequels, with yellow Jedi robes and more lightsaber colours.

So there’s blue darksabers now?

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

Highly doubtful you’ll ever see lightsiders wielding red sabers in the new canon given the new canon’s explanation for how they’re created.

I know all about that. And I hate it. With every single fibre of my absolute being.

Only because you want Jedi to wield red lightsabers.

This looked like crap. It’s so paint by numbers / made by a committee that they have diversity written twice on their whiteboard. The villains seemed so lame as well. Nothing in the video was interesting.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I mean the artwork is nice, people are good at what they do. But on the other hand it’s only just far enough into the past so they can stick with the same SW aesthetic.

Let’s be honest. They could’ve set this 4000 years in the past, and they’d still stick with the same SW aesthetic.

Maybe, but they might have had to think a bit harder about it.

Disney “cannon” is… just… not cannon to me. I’ve read so many Star Wars books, seen all the movies several times (still believe Hal9000’s versions are the best).

I never liked that Disney stepped in and said “oh by the way, all those books (100+), comics and games are no longer cannon because we said so”.

I will keep an eye out to see what they actually do with this. I just hope they have SOME respect for all the CANNON that is already out there, and don’t try and rewrite it all.

It is nothing new - Lucasfilm did the pretty much the same for the Holiday Special, both the animated Droids and Ewoks series, the two mid-80’s Ewok films, and 2003’s The Cone Wars animated series too… well before Disney came along.

Thankfully, this site exists with some very determined and kind people out there finding and preserving content that Lucasfilm do not want us to be able to watch anymore 😃

^ That kind of sucks nothing will be for Christmas (damn, that means some actual thuoght will have to go into gift-giving this year 😉) but obviously understand why there is the delay.

Maybe we’ll get a teaser or some exerts later in the year - or at least some more background information?

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

I hope so too, looking forward to this new project, especially as the writers invovled are all committed to this and are well versed in the Star Wars Universe.

Despite hating the term High Republic i much prefer old republic. They should be making these as films.

I mean isn’t that kind of what the game of thrones guys were going to do before they quit their trilogy.
Iain McCaig and Doug Chiang should be working on new films, way too talented to be storyboarding or doing concept arts for novels and comic books.
