I’m a bit put off with everything going streaming so that I have to chase down content across platforms, devices, and services, but I understand it’s the way of the future.

That said, I’ll be giving this one a test drive for The Mandalorian and the Rogue One prequel. I’m also interested in the NatGeo content and some Disney classics. Beyond that, I’m not a Marvel guy or a Simpsons watcher, so those are of no interest.

The price, at least at this rollout stage, is very fair. I expect it to go up somewhat quickly after that.

Apparently they’ve promised 4k HDR content “where applicable.”

I wonder if this will be the long-awaited debut of the OT’s 4k master we’ve been hearing about for five years now.

^ No worries, mate.

For us people in the UK it seems we’ll be getting Disney+ (or rather, The Mandalorian) sometime ‘early 2020’…

https://twitter.com/StarWarsUK/status/1165147142241079296

^ ‘The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series, only on #DisneyPlus. Coming to you early 2020.’

Given Disney+ launches in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, & Netherlands mid-November… I’m sure everybody in the UK will be patient and just wait a few months for their Mandalorian fix. That the good people on the internet will not be posting spoilers or information from the series they have seen, meanwhile.

‘This is a dangerous time for the UKers, when they will be tempted by the Dark Side of the Force’…

^ and I’m not talking about Brexit (too late) or the possibility of voting for Boris in a General Election (then you are lost!) 😉

So, no info about when it’ll be available in Scandinavia?

Since HBO Nordic has (from what I’ve gathered) been quite good at releasing things more-or-less at the same time as the US it’d be kind of weird if Disney+ was as delayed here as it will be in the UK.

BTW; Is there any specific reason why the UK won’t get Disney+ until next year? That seems really weird to me.

The exclusive contracts that Sky TV have for showing the Star Wars films in the UK do not expire until sometime in 2020… (ie, https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/nov/05/sky-faces-loss-of-disney-content-as-it-leaves-the-ftse-100 - 2018 article)

I haven’t seen anything about Scandinavia, sorry.

This article has a bit of info; the German Disney+ is down for a 2020 start - and most of Western Europe too (translated):-

‘As the colleagues of Variety report, the service should expand to “Western Europe” in early 2020 - whether Germany is included is not yet clear. At the end of 2020, Disney + should also start in Eastern Europe. We therefore expect that Disney + will be available here at the earliest in early 2020 until the end of 2020 at the latest.’

Though I’ve no idea how reliable or accurate the actual article - or publication, is:-
https://www.giga.de/webapps/netflix/specials/disney-plus-streamingdienst-start-inhalt-preis

If you’re on social media it may well be worth asking the question on the respective Disney+ channels about the Scandinavian services to come?

Yeah, HBO are pretty much on the ball with their services all over the world (a few early leaks for Game Of Thrones apart 😉). Disney stuttering the release of the Disney+ around the world will likely see many opt for the Dark Side route of obtaining content they wish to see… and some may not bother with the official Disney+ service when it is eventually available in their respective countries…

Just noticing I was actually charged $160.41 (instead of $140.97)
Reading the fine print, it says “taxes added where applicable.”
Still, another $20 spread out over 36 months is less than a dollar. So it’s $4.46 per month instead of $3.92 (your taxes may vary).

I think this is Disney’s endgame. They already own a huge part of the market, and with Disney+, they will be able to control what is placed onto the screen. They do not have to split the money with movie theaters. They don’t have to reveal how much money their movies are making. And most importantly, it’s convenient for the consumer = people become dependent and we can raise the prices as years go on.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Star Wars franchise becomes entirely shows on Disney+ in 20 years.

As it turns out we here in the Netherlands are extremely fortunate to already have Disney+ available for the next two months for free! Disney will be testing their platform in our country before the worldwide launch, and so here are a few screenshots of the new service:

All the Star Wars films, and series are available, and for those wondering, the versions available at this time are the digital masters, that have been used over the last years, including the extras.

There’s so much content, and it’s really fast.

It even has this gem:

For all you Marvel fans it also has many of the old cartoons from the 1980s till today:

The article claims that Rogue One is available now in 4K (along with 16 other titles) - impressive…

From Dre’s posted images above this does look to have a good simple UI too (which is always a bonus 😃)

Keep checking to see if they accidentally release ‘The Mandalorian’ before the 12th November, please Dre 😉

Am very much liking that ‘Empire Of Dreams’ is on there - hopefully more Star Wars documentaries and BTS programs will be added over time…

Hmm, would it be possible to rip those DVD/Bluray cover looking images, and the big preview images/backgrounds? I have a soft spot for consistent saga posters in my Plex Library, even if they’re photoshops rather than actual drawings/paintings. Unfortunately I’m not in the Netherlands. There must be some way to get them from the website.

Not for Disney+, but you can find the artwork for the TV Shows & Movies on iTunes, thanks to this website.

I think it’s because the episode numbers becoming a prominent part of the marketing and labeling really only happened for the prequels. Before (and after) that point, the focus was less on the episode number (which we know was mostly a gimmick) and more on the title itself.

I’m curious as to whether Empire of Dreams has at least been upscaled. I remember hearing they were working on making as much of that HD as possible, so when it appeared on Amazon Prime I checked it out and it seems to be a straight DVD rip.

Also interesting to get confirmation that the files being used for Star Wars are the digital masters, complete with that weirdly cut-up fanfare over the Lucasfilm logo and the 20th Century Fox logo only appearing on Star Wars. I wonder if they’re only using those for this test, or if that’s going to be what’s rolled out for the rest of us in November. I was pretty curious as to whether they were going to reinstate the logos for the entire OT/PT, or cut them all off entirely. But if this holds through for official launch, it’ll basically just be blu-ray rips.
