The Last Jedi: Legendary (Released) — Page 28

Yeah, what Ash said. There are deleted scenes relegated to 1080p, and the prequel edits of mine will be forever locked at 1080p, so I wouldn’t be in a big hurry to go to a lot of effort and headache to spearhead a 4K version.

Good thing is that anyone who is able could relatively easily remaster the video stream using a 4K source.

Any progress updates? I’m guessing it’s close to release if all that was left was Dr. Dre’s color correction.

Yes, getting close. Applying the LUT made dark parts of the picture look crushed so I made a rudimentary color correction instead to make it look less yellow-green, careful not to go too far.
I’m just waiting on subtitles and then I will need to do the write up and then get to packing and distributing.
I’m also hoping to sit down and record a commentary track. I didn’t record one for TFA:R both because it was a relatively simple restructure which others helped with and because I expected it to be the only ST fan edit I’d be doing!

I can’t wait to hear how you pronounce my name!

I am really excited for this project and I am proud to have been a part of it!

Cannot wait! A few friends of mine still haven’t seen TLJ yet and I convinced them to hold off for your cut. It’ll be a fun viewing party.

Well, I found myself with more to say than I thought. Since I never shut up, I don’t really need to do much editing of what I recorded! Hopefully you enjoy listening, but at the very least I enjoyed recording it. I’m hoping to get everything together and have these uploaded inside of a week.

Will there be a Blu ray quality version of the edit? I prefer the highest quality I can get.

Refer to the Reddit post (any of them, since they each contain a link to my master folder) for download links!

The DVD5 version is up, with the 34GB 1080p version to follow. Both are listed via torrents as well. The 720p mp4 and TinyEncode versions are being encoded now, and will probably be along in a few days.

JEDIT: I’m downloading it now, Hal. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!

Hal, thanks for the release and commentary! I have the week off so I think I’ll get the prequel edits as well for marathon purposes.

Potato chips and Mountain Dew, here I come!

The edit is very good!

I really loved your many interpretations of my name, too! I had such a dumb grin during that whole part! 😃

I’m really impressed with the commentary, the way you explained yourself and all.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Have you seen “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret”? There’s a scene in which a British person snaps when the main character refuses to pronounce the word correctly.

The Internet has changed since the days of 2005ish. It seems that the initial reaction to this particular fan edit of TLJ has been to conflate it with the no-women cut, the petition to remake the movie, and other unhelpful garbage.
Even though I think anyone who listens to my commentary track would easily see that those are far from my intentions, I probably could have made the edit’s documentation a little more forthcoming about what the edit is NOT trying to do. Honestly, it didn’t even occur to me that such a thing would be necessary, given what fan edits have been up to this point. With this film’s reader-response dialogue, I should have anticipated the need for doing so.
I have added an addendum to the “intention” portion of the documentation, in the hopes that this project not be so easily assumed the worst of due to an intertextual sense of hatred toward the film for morally questionable reasons.
People are right to point out that most of the changes I’ve made are nitpicky and unnecessary. Of course they are; I wouldn’t have produced this edit if there wasn’t some sort of ‘critical mass’ of changes to get it started. But, while I am at it, I’ll take care of things here and there. I am not going to alter the changelist, as I could type at length for each change. The reality is that people who are predisposed to view any fan edit as anathema will reject it out of hand, and the only way for those interested to assess it is to invest the time into viewing it themselves. It’s merely an alternative; fan edits are not destructive of the original version.
As my commentary track makes clear, I like this film a great deal, which is why I want to produce an edit like this, as opposed to doing nothing. I’m preaching to the choir, but wanted to reflect on the initial reception this edit has gotten on the Internet at large.

Hi everyone. Haven’t been on the site in a while, so I wasn’t aware about the progress of the project. I’m excited to hopefully watch this soon! If you still would like me to make a cover, I can do it in a couple of weeks when I get back from holiday.
P.S. Hal, if you do need me to make any posters or Blu-ray covers for an edit, don’t hesitate to PM me.

Wow, I’m credited! So proud, thank you, Hal-9000. Can’t wait for it to download, but congrats in advance. This will be the first edit that I will watch and the first time I see the movie since my second theater screening.

Sadly, a lot of people will have the knee-jerk reaction to a fan edit that it’s merely an exercise in cutting jokes and unwanted characters, when it could be (and often is) so much more, like reconstructing deleted scenes, bringing back character arcs, and restoring the score.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that fanedits should not be about killing what you hate, but saving what you love. 😉

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Hey Hal! I just downloaded the zip file for the 1080p version of your edit for TLJ. However, when I extract it, the actual movie file is apparently corrupt. I tried downloading it twice and no success. Did I do something wrong or is the edit not available? Sorry if I sound demanding, I’m just really eager to see this edit as soon as possible! Have a nice day and thanks for your awesome work in the fanediting community 😃

Well, needless to say, the movie file shouldn’t be corrupt. Are you saying you have a .mkv file but it’s having problems? Can anyone confirm downloading the zip file for the 1080p version and playing it successfully? I can recompress and reupload if needed, but would prefer not to if it won’t help.
