The Boba Fett movie — Page 3

A Star Wars film used to be a major event. With annual films, that is no longer the case. Nothing really matters.

Says that development on the spin-offs hasn’t been halted, but rather simply they are being reconsidered and possibly reconfigured. Which, again, makes sense. Sounds like it might be possible that the Fett movie will either being a much smaller production than previously thought, or might expand its scope beyond just the Fett character. Who knows about Kenobi.

The ironic thing of course is that none of these movie have ever been officially announced in the first place. So they were probably waiting on Solo’s performance to dictate the next steps anyway.

If I don’t get the Solo sequel to finish where they were going with Maul/Dawn and Lando/Han…

I’d rather they carry the Maul storyline into another movie rather than a sequel to Solo.

As much as I actually enjoyed Erenreich as Han, I’m ready to move on. He can pop up for a few scenes in other stories, or even the Boba Fett movie if it ends up happening, but he doesn’t need a sequel. And I seem to be one of the very few people who thought Donald Glover’s Lando was the worst part of the movie, so I hope we don’t see him again at all.

And that’s fine. I think having this be a trilogy or sequels that overlap characters but don’t follow one character directly is perfect. Some series of films involving Han/Chewie/Boba/Lando/Maul/Crimson Dawn/Jabba works for me. I just don’t know that Boba Fett can carry a film. Unless they play him like the Man with No Name.

It’s funny because years ago when they first announced that they were going to do one Star Wars movie each year (with the rumors being Solo, Fett, and Yoda spin-offs), everybody got mad and said that wasn’t a good idea. Now we’re at the point where they’ve finally accepted as much. I tend to think we’ll still see these spin-offs pop up at some point, though probably on the Disney streaming service rather than in theaters.

So, no Boba Fett movie, but a Boba Fett TV show instead?

Well, more of a Mandalorian tv show than it actually being Boba 😉

I’m still hopeful a few years down the line they’ll start doing ‘straight to blu ray’ type Star Wars releases - or one off 90 mins SW specials (especially if Disney are pushing forward their own streaming service).

Something with a vibe like this below - a 90 min spaghetti western type Boba-centred film would do for me…

Though comics and books will likely have to suffice for now…

If they went that direction, I’d be a streaming customer for sure. I know your one-sheet is a bit in jest (and awesome) but the content and quality of a short series could be fantastic if done to the standards of modern streaming services. TV in general has become much more respected the past decade or so. It’s returned to a point when quality comes before quantity.

When I was a kid there was a series called the NBC Mystery Movie. It came on Sunday nights. They were feature film length detective shows and crime dramas. My favorite was Colombo. They only aired about six or seven a year, often times over a month or more apart. It was because they put in the time and work on quality writing, A-list actors, directing, etc instead of frequency. Spielberg directed one of them.

While I sometimes lament the long gaps between seasons of many current shows on Netflix, AMC, Prime, BBC, etc, I know it’s because they’re taking the time to put out a quality product. If Disney goes this same direction with their network, we could see some Star Wars content on par with the theatrical releases. No complaints here if they back off of numbered sagas and focus on their TV series.

Axed Boba Fett Movie Was a ‘Borderline R-Rated’ Spaghetti Western That ‘Probably Scared the S— Out of Everyone,’ Says James Mangold - at Variety

https://variety.com/2023/film/news/boba-fett-movie-r-rated-canceled-solo-box-office-1235658248

'James Mangold is moving on to direct a “Star Wars” tentpole following “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” but it’s not his first go-around with the Lucasfilm franchise. Back in 2018, news broke that Mangold had been hired to direct a movie about the bounty hunter Boba Fett. He was also set to co-write the project with Simon Kinberg, best known as a writer and producer on the “X-Men” movies.

Mangold’s Boba Fett movie never got off the ground, and he recently said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that it wasn’t too surprising given the overall tone of the project.

“At the point I was doing it I was probably scaring the shit out of everyone,” Mangold said. “I was making much more of a borderline R-rated, single planet spaghetti Western. They probably would never be able to embrace Baby Yoda if I had made that. It didn’t really belong in the world I was kind of envisioning.”’

more information, quotes, and a short 1 minute video with Mangold himself, can be found in the linked article above

It Sounds like it would have been a cool film. I really hope his “Dawn of the Jedi” film works out.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

I am not familiar with his previous work but I am thrilled with how he handled the new Indiana Jones movie.
If that’s what he can do then by all means unleash him on Star Wars.
