I present the ending to one of the alternate versions of the release…the “Skywalker Lives” edition!

If it ended on the binary sunset shot, for me it would be perfect.

Heck, even if Luke dies, the placement of this scene is great.

I will be changing it so it ends on the sunset wide shot.

Ways this ending can be used:

-Simply watching it until episode 9.
-Editing episode 9 crawl to imply that now Luke can project himself across the galaxy without dying. Makes him more powerful and a way to explain his scenes in 9.
-Or episode 9 is terrible and episode 8 is someone’s new head canon finale to the saga.

Dude, be serious one second. The “let’s rewrite the crawl to accomodate every change” is a running joke on the fanedit section.

EPISODE IX

THE LAST ORDER

Luke can project himself ACROSS THE GALAXY.
The BLUE AURA around him is NORMAL.
LUKE is NOT DEAD, I MEAN IT guys.
He’s even MORE POWERFUL.
Like Ben when he dies in EPISODE IV.
BUT LUKE IS NOT DEAD, STOP ASKING ME !

Meanwhile, the Knights of Ren have begun
the construction of a second STARKILLER BASE.

I agree about the binary sunset being the final shot. Star Wars films all end on wide shots as opposed to closeups.

Great job with this though man, I’m really looking forward to the finished product!

Per the suggestion of many to revisit my removal of Snoke throwing Hux around after the Resistance escapes, here is a new clip which restores one more line of dialogue before we cut back to the Resistance.

I must say that I really like how this flows after getting used to it. I tried including one more shot of Hux at the end but it just didn’t fit.

Here is another try at the “Skywalker Lives” ending which finishes on the wide shot of the binary sunset. In my opinion, I like the musical timing of the first version better but like the ending shot of this second version better. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Whilst I don’t agree with the premise of keeping him alive - I think you knocked it out of the park there - really well done. The emotions and timing of the shots and the scene overall - really immersive and professional.

I would say it seems the clouds have changed direction from appearing on 14s (left to right), to appearing on 29s (right to left), and disappeared quite quickly before the shot on 36s (maybe another shot inserted to give an impression of long time passing there?)

Still, impressive stuff darthrush 😃

these are pretty much my thoughts too. i might even prefer the first one due to the musical timing, but both are absolutely fantastic.

I’ve been out of the loop for a few months, but I just have to say this is probably going to be my preferred version.

I do have a suggestion for you: Is it possible to re-edit the fight to sync the quiet part of the score around 1:40ish, to 1:50ish, where Rey and Ren are both struggling? I feel if it can be synced where the score picks up again when Rey drops her lightsaber, it could feel seamless. Maybe. I am a fan of the idea, but I’m not sure it can feel completely seamless.

Yeah, based upon some other responses on FE.org, I am thinking that I will not be rescoring the fight.

darthrush, any chance you’ll be creating a thread for your tfa fan edit? it might end up being my go-to!

and do you think you’ll release a time passage + skywalker lives edition?

I don’t think it’s been mentioned yet, but I also absolutely would take out the “You want to be the new Vader” lines from Snoke to Kylo.
Removing the lines might not make the film darker, but it sounds so corny and un-starwarsy.

Everything else has been perfect so far and I support every decision you made.

Hey man, I liked the overal story of The Last Jedi, just the execution was a lot less (with the jokes and the chassing scene). I heve to say, this looks so good! I know it takes a huga amount of time to make such a project, but do you have anny idea on when this project would be finnished?

Keep up the great work! I’m really loving the edited clips you’ve put here!

I’m fine with those lines from Snoke. They highlight that Snoke is well aware of exactly what Kylo wants.

I am planning on doing so.

Lessons From The Screenplay convinced me to do so with his video on The Last Jedi. I really agree with him on the film, which is that it is one rollercoaster of constant hits and misses.

And in regards to progress on the edit, I have been very busy with school lately. Things should free up dramatically though in the next few days. The edit is in its final stages of completion. (all in addition to getting my Force Awakens edit ready to go)

Wow! After watching HAL9000’s edit I went looking to see what others were doing and the stuff you have here is great! I didn’t think HAL9000 went quite far enough on some things (saber throw, blue milk, shoulder brush, etc), but what I’ve seen here you are making those little bit of extra cuts that I think will make the difference in me actually enjoying TLJ even more than he did. Looking forward to see the final version and hoping it will become my “definitive” TLJ.
