Political commentary in Star Wars is nothing new, it’s always been there.

I agree it has always been there. I admit that it feels very … forced. (Not a corny pun I swear.)

I agree that it was really overt on Canto Bight, but trying to say that Star Wars is politics free is just goofy.

Politics isn’t bad, but what bugs me is that they have time to push animal rights by freeing the slave animals, but not anti-slavery as they take zero time to try saving the slave kids.

I · II · III · IV · V · VI · VII · VIII · IX
This is the way.

Didn’t everyone criticize the part in TPM when a 9-year old slave kid got sent into a dangerous action setpiece with the rest of the main characters?

Back in the old days, we could have our slaves race that them Pods without anyone having issue. But this newer generation complains about animal’s racing or Wookies eating meat. Make Star Wars Great Again!

…Sorry couldn’t resist. 😉

I’m not defending TPM, I just think it’s dumb that people criticize that movie because Anakin was taken back to Naboo, and then turn around and say that the kids in TLJ should’ve gone with Finn, Rose, and an untrustworthy space pirate as they infilitrate Snoke’s flagship.

I’ve invested as much care and attention to this sequence as I possibly can, and I believe this is the best I am going to get this to look and sound. It’s the caretaker removal. Wind and porg sounds have been added fresh, in order to allow the clean music from the rear channels to be duplicated to the front and center channels and carry on from Luke and Rey’s conversation, rather than trying to transition into the more dramatic music originally associated with the final exterior shot. The levels were adjusted throughout to make it flow as seamlessly as I can contrive.

Impressively done Hal, nice one.

That is awesome Hal. Maybe tone down the wind a tad bit and then I think it’s perfect.

I think that would be the only tinker you could do if you wanted. Other than that, wow!

I modified the wind sound to bring it down somewhat. It’s amazing sometimes what taking a break and returning to a challenge can yield.
And thanks for the kind feedback. I’m starting to feel better about this project. Good thing is there’s no reason to rush.

We need all the feedback we can get cause I wholeheartedly agree about Last Jedi being a nightmare to edit at times.

It also makes sense to step back and wait some time before revisiting scenes, etc. All in all, as usual, good work Hal!

How does the hive mind think this little sequence plays out as a total package? It is based heavily on darthrush’s take in his thread. Here the idea is that Finn and Rose are heavily focused on the getting to the codebreaker quickly and don’t give a rip where they are at. It is obviously now a much shorter sequence, but I think this mini-throughline might sell it well enough.
Rear channels used to remove sounds of coins rattling around inside BB8, replaced with a sound of BB8’s normal rolling sound.

I love how you replaced the BB-8 sfx and smoothed over the music transition. It really sells what I couldn’t get right when trying to transition between those two clips.

I prefer keeping the dialogue in the ship of “You know about this place?”, “only in stories” and THEN cutting to Canto Bight. Your version feels a little rushed, but overall I think you really sold the transition between the Casino establishing shots and them arriving which is absolutely the critical cut.

Great work Hal.

That was done very well Hal, especially the music and the BB-8 Sfx. Thank you for trimming that.

I do agree with Darthrush that did feel a bit too rushed. By keeping that dialogue that ends at “…in stories” it helps to remove the “rushness” to the scene and helps transition to the rest. It also gives you a little “heads up” to what is going to happen next to the look and feel of the casino.

It would be nice if the redneck alien’s dialog could be replaced with generic Huttese. His body language is enough to convey what’s he saying. Or you could even throw in some subtitles.

As for the clip as a whole. Very well done, it’s been a while since I’ve seen that whole sequence and I wasn’t able to pick up on the where the cuts are.
