Terrible DVD/Blu-ray Cover Art — Page 21

I’ve seen bootleg tapes at comic conventions with slicker cover art. 😛

… Surely that can’t be real. Jesus.

Not a movie I thought was even in the public domain.

It isn’t… I’m surprised to see that.

That reminds me, I need to get back to Massachusetts, I have about $10,000 in gold buried in Harold Parker State Forest.

All Australian releases look awful.

This concept could’ve worked but was executed poorly. Really poorly.

I also find it kind of surprising that they would put a swastika on the cover art. Usually they avoid incorporating swastikas into box art when it comes to WWII products. Even the Axis and Allies board game would always obscure the German flag on the box.

Is it a sticker or is it printed directly onto the art? It reminds me of the surgeon general’s warning on cigarette cartons.

Gross. I’m glad I don’t live in Australia.

Australian here. It’s printed. Don’t even get me started.

Our nanny state of a Government decided about a decade ago that huge ass ugly ratings on the front of every form of home media would ‘better today’s youth.’

Plot twist: It didn’t.

You legally cannot sell a movie or video game here without paying a fee to get it ‘rated’ by the classification board and printing the appropriate classification on the cover.

Fortunately in the United States, for all of our problems, the government is extremely limited in regulating any kind of art, especially literature, photography, and any kind of painting, sculpture, or poster. Basically, as long as a photograph or video isn’t depicting an actual minor engaging in a sex act, or the work isn’t violating copyright law, Uncle Sam can’t regulate it or demand its alteration.

My Star Trek movie set is a region free UK set. Thankfully the big ratings are on the bottom of the box, but they’re also printed on the otherwise great disc art that uses original poster art.

I think Australia, the UK and Germany are the main countries that have mandatory cover rating printing.

Australia is by far the worst though. So obnoxious.

The UK and Ireland have ratings on the front, spine and back - though a little more discrete than our Aussie friends. I hardly notice them anymore - hard not to notice the Aussie’s classification 😃

I imagine a few film buffs down under may opt for a custom cover?
