I am curious about A Wrinkle in Time, because i read the books as a kid. but i haven’t really followed the development to even know if it is true to what i imagined.

Yeah, I was semi-interested to see Jurassic Park V but that trailer just killed it for me. It seems even dumber than the previous one.
And yet i still am positive i will watch it, because dinosaurs.
Yeah… me, too. LOL
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.
I remember when I went gaga for dinos. I barely remember, but remember nonetheless.

I take it Minions isn’t a very cromulent work of filmmaking?
If you like the Minions’ shtick, you might enjoy it. If they irritate you-and I know many people loathe them-then stay far away, because their sidekick routine from the Despicable Me movies proper is cranked up to feature length. Personally, I had fun with it. It’s a glorified toy commercial, no question, but the Minions make me laugh, so…
“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.”

Annihilation (2018)
Beautiful and unsettling. Great Science Fiction, it’s a shame how this film was dumped by the studio.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
Awful and confounding. It’s amazing that this had a 100 million dollar budget. It doesn’t look it at all. Everything about this film was a misfire.
“Everything” is a little hyperbolic, I thought there was a lot that was good about it. I also wouldn’t call it sci-fi.

Given the recent proliferation of Scifi television series I’ve added a new section dedicated to it.
“Everything” is a little hyperbolic
Not really. The script was horrible. The story was a jumbled mess and the characters are hollow shells of their original novel counterparts. The dialog is some of the worst I’ve heard in years. The performances were near universally awful. The only decent one was by Chris Pine and he’s barely in the film. The special effects are terrible, the designs are cartoonish and the compositing is some of the worst I’ve ever seen in a major motion picture. The costumes were laughably bad, they and this film look like a TV special.
I have never walked out on a film before but I almost did halfway through this. The only reason I didn’t was that my theater won’t refund you if you’ve watched more than a half hour.
I loved the book back in the 5th grade, but it seems to elude being properly adapted to the screen. The 2003 tv movie did nothing for me. The Aunt Beast scene gave me nightmares for obvious reasons. 😉
Wish I could find the filmstrip adaptation I saw back in elementary school, that was on the money.
Where were you in '77?
I thought Storm Reid was fantastic and probably the best part. I liked the core of the story, though it was definitely a mess. I feel like a few rewrites that honed in the focus more would have done it good. Really liked the visuals too, even if some of the effects were less than great (though not much worse than the typical modern CG fests). Some of the designs were definitely out there, but I appreciate that, even if it didn’t really come together in a coherent way.

THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

As someone who didn’t like the book, I thought the movie fixed quite a few structural problems and gave the main character more agency. I liked it better than the book in any case.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I’m so excited to see it on Friday!
(my kids liked it and want to see it again, unfortunately I’m not working this time)
I have mixed feelings about seeing Annihilation. RLM loved it but The New Yorker hated it.
The blue elephant in the room.
I recently just watched the redlettermedia star wars reviews and loved them. But then I saw some of their “out of character” videos (half in the bag etc) and eh, lost me on the channel. They seem really smug and self righteous, and just generally were unlikeable to me. I might try some more of their in character videos sometime.

Just saw Ready Player One. I really enjoyed it. A tad too long like they always are these days, but still. At the same time I would’ve loved to see more casual stuff and having fun at the Oasis before shit went serious. It peaked at the dance scene for me, that was awesome.

A Quiet Place (2018)
What a fantastic sophomore entry for John Krasinki as a director. I had no idea he directed this until the end credits. A solid modern creature feature.
