Somebody was asleep at the wheel claiming the Imperial Shuttle was impractical to make into a toy back in the 80’s, as Kenner did make one. 😛

As were the skiffs… Looks like the nerdist needs a more educated Star Wars toy expert…

I’ve been watching this since it was announced at toy fair. Will be interesting to see if it gets enough backers. I certainly won’t be one. It’s too expensive, WAY too big, and I’ve not been collecting much 3 3/4 inch figures in the last few years (though some of the reveals at toy fair may pull me back in…)

But still, it is really cool and I kinda hope it gets made just to see peoples’ pictures of it.

Maybe updates to classics like the Death Star playset will follow. The barge might actually be bigger than that G.I. Joe aircraft carrier! 😉

Nah, the barge is supposed to be about 4 feet long. The USS Flagg was 7.5 feet long!

If I had created the SW Universe, I would’ve made it more like Dune. Instead of being set in “a galaxy far far away”, I’d have set it several thousand years into the future of our own galaxy. Also, there’d be no aliens; there’d be exotic human offshoots and the odd uplifted animal species for variety, but no bona fide intelligent races of extraterrestrial origin.

I want to see Gary Kurtz’s version of ROTJ made into either a graphic novel or a 2D animated film.

Oh yes. Oh yes please.

Is there somewhere I can read what “Gary Kurtz’s version of ROTJ” is supposed to be like? I’ve heard people mention it before, and how amazing it’s supposed to be. But I’ve never actually seen or read anything that really details what’s different about it.

Mark Hamill gets his star on Walk of Fame: http://variety.com/2018/film/news/mark-hamill-hollywood-walk-of-fame-star-1202705447/

At the same time it’s great that he’s been granted it as I really think he’s a great actor and probably even a better in person but it’s just unfortunate that he doesn’t have much more to back him up than SW films.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I think he’s got a pretty solid and respected career for his voice work too, mate?

(And as you say, seems like a great guy - which is always a plus 😃)

I get why Lucas didn’t want to kill off Han. It makes sense 30 years on, but killing one of the big three would have been a huge downer. Star Wars is essentially a fairy tale and good always triumphs over evil in those.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I thought Lucas’ issue was that he didn’t see a market for dead Han Solo figures? 😛

I don’t know about other places, but those things would have flown off the shelf in my neighborhood. Especially if Han got horribly disfigured first.

And maybe some of the neighborhood kids who weren’t me would have bought some too.

Well, this plan also included a very different sequel trilogy, with VII coming out not terribly long after ROTJ. It wouldn’t have been the ending.

Kenner didn’t give us any melting bad guys who looked into the Lost Ark for their Raiders line, so I can’t see Massive facial scar Han seeing the light of day. 😉

I’ve never seen the point in killing Han in RotJ. His character didn’t need to sacrifice himself to prove worth or to make up for anything. It wouldn’t propel the story the way it did in TFA, and I didn’t like it then either (mainly because I could see it coming as soon as the ST announcement was made).
Duracell’s point about the best fairy tales having very dark elements is absolutely true and I do agree that RotJ needed some edge. But just killing one of the mains wouldn’t have achieved that. Kurtz’s idea of ending with Luke heading off to find “The Other” is great though.

I recently found my old copies of the movie adaptation comics for the PT that I bought when I was a kid, and much to my surprise the AOTC comic was actually pretty good. Obviously the confusing story and much of the bad dialogue was still there, but the overall visuals were much more interesting than what actually ended up in the movie. (No wonder I read the comic more than I actually watched the movie.)

Just take the scene where Anakin kills the Sand People;

The film version is pretty standard. Several wide-shots and a few closer shots. Boring and safe. It doesn’t really convey the gravity of the situation all that well.

Now, compare that to the comic version however;

Just look at how much more interesting this is. This feels like the beginning of the ‘slaughter’ that it was supposed to be, as opposed to the more action-esque scene we actually got in the movie.

Overall, compared to most movie adaptations, which tend to be pretty crap (the OT and especially ANH are exceptions), this series actually has some pretty great art.
