Good article about Ron Howard coming on (with a cool bit about Lucas)
http://ew.com/movies/2018/02/09/ron-howard-solo-a-star-wars-story/
I’ve watched the trailer about ten times. I have to say, I’m becoming very excited about seeing this. The recasting doesn’t bother me and the story, the locations, and most of the characters are new to us. Ron Howard is someone who’s work I really enjoy. If he corrected the direction they were going under the fired directors, this could be a lot of fun. Plus, I’m always up for more Chewie. 😃
Premature since we only have a trailer, but looking at the four films they’ve made, it would appear Disney is better at back stories than they are at continuing stories.
I think I’ve nailed down the reason I had no problem accepting Perry King as Han in the Radio Drama and also the new cast in Trek’09.
-They weren’t supposed to be the same characters.
In the radio drama, we get an alternate version of the events from the movie. In the Trek reboot, we get an alternate timeline altogether. But this guy is supposed to be the same Han we know from the films, and that’ harder for me to take. I really dig the trailer, but I think the best case scenario for me will probably be taking this as an alternate look at things rather than a canon happening.
Or maybe I’ll buy it flat out. I’m surprisingly excited to see!

Great read, man. Thanks.
I’ve been a huge fan of Howard’s work since I first sat in the theater watching Night Shift (still a favorite of mine). I think the character and story are in great hands.
I gotta say, that “I’m the only one who knows what you really are.” “What am I?” *smug-then-nervous-face* part is really winning me over. My favorite part of the trailer and a great indicator of what they’l do with this character. Perfect. My hopes are now high.
^ a mash of the previous teaser posters 😃

Man, I am digging these teaser one-sheets for the film. For me, some of the best in years. Reminds me of the long ago Star Wars style D one-sheet. Really nice to see something other than the Photoshop heads of the past twenty years or so. The official release may end up being that style, but these will be my high-res DVD case of choice.

Nice article, quite interesting and adds on nicely to what I’ve read so far in George Lucas’s biography “George Lucas - A Life”.
My reservations about the PT and the way he bastardised his own OT creations aside, it is an extremely interesting read and gives some great insights into his film making (even to how much of his own life events influenced his films) and how he came to be a writer and director at all instead of possibly a grease monkey (mechanic), a stationary store manager, a race car driver or a stain on the side of the road.
It’s also amazing to read about some of the people he collaborated and went through film school with that became big names in the industry themselves and other now well known names he rubbed shoulders with as started working in the film industry proper. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in such stuff and I’m only 1/5 through in reading it myself 😉

I wonder if, like in Last Crusade, we’ll see Han get the cut\scar on his chin.

I think it’s a near certainty! My prediction… It’s Qi’ra that does it, in some duplicitous act of betrayal that’ll put him off brunettes for at least half a decade.
Everything doesn’t need to be shown in the movies. There will be books after Solo that will be canon.
There is one thing nobody has noticed from the toys. Boba Fett doesn’t have that huge dent on the front of his helmet, or Lego didn’t care to put it there. It will interesting to see which way that goes on or off screen.
Hmm, if the play features of the toy is any indication, it appears as though my annoyance at the new pointy nose of the Falcon may be alleviated…

Also, that’s possibly a cool nod to an unproduced vintage Kenner idea…
Also also, I only recently picked up on how the flat-mounted radar dish is a nod to some of McQuarrie’s concept paintings…
The Falcon made up to look like a different ship was a plot device in one of the Daley novels, IIRC. Han jettisoned the fake hull sections at some point in the story.
Where were you in '77?

Stars’ End. He does that with the help of Jessa so they can get past authorities where they’ll be smuggling two friends of hers. That’s also where he picks up Bollux and Blue Max. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a few nods to those characters or novels.
Of COURSE the Solo tie in novel is called “Last Shot”!

some decent art for them too…

Yep, that’s definitely a detachable shuttle or something in the nose of the Falcon.
Also, a canon cross section? Neat!

I’m sure nobody here will have the same frame of reference, but the new Han looks just like Dick Valentine, singer for Electric Six. My Lady and I can’t stop laughing about it! (we’re big E6 fans)
The more I see of him, the stronger the resemblance becomes. If he yells “YES!” at any point, I’m not sure we’ll be able to recover.
I’m sure nobody here will have the same frame of reference
