Probably just the white. The design is rather similar. It looks fine.

Eh, they looked pretty plasticy and, well, not dangerous to me. I was also not a huge fan of the shiny chrome pistols in TPM for the same reason. Too toylike, not very weaponlike.

I like the shiny chrome on those blasters, my only problem with them is they look like they’re straight out of Flash Gordon, which is cool in its own way but doesn’t completely fit. I don’t have a problem with stormtroopers having white on their guns (it does match their armor). I mean, the OT blasters are still way better, of course, these aren’t as rugged but neither are guns today.

I really like Rey’s blaster design.

I kind of liked the Naboo pistols. They have a vintage Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers vibe to them.

They are plenty of reasons to make the weapons less “real” looking these days.

I’m guessing you’re not much of a gun person in real life? Plastic (and composite) is the name of the game in military/police weapons. Just imagine all those green bits (that match his green uniform) were white, to match white armor…

Also…

And chrome (or a similar look) has been around a VERY long time…

Yeah, my gun safe would disagree with you. And yes, this is absolutely true, but in the context of Star Wars, the design of the First Order guns in particular feels like they were meant to sell toys first and be guns second to me, however “realistic” they might be.

The gun Rey used in Takodana was one of the most toy-y guns yet in the Star Wars saga in my opinion. PT guns were mostly fine, the royalty ones that Padmé used in TPM looked like something that came out of a James Bond movie.

Have a hard time agreeing with either of those statements.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, then! Rey’s gun looked nice and different, and I really liked its design. I just think it was a bit too toy like.

It could just be the prop itself. They probably 3D printet Rey’s blaster (and all the ST blasters), whereas the OT props were usually made from real gun parts.

Not sure about Padme’s blaster though. It might have been made from real metal at the very least.

I preferred it when they were just clearly something from the 1940s with extra junk glued on

Missed opportunity for “Jewbacca.”

Yeah I’m not gonna really call that a missed opportunity.
